He's one of Norway's richest people. His family wealth is about 16 billion kroner, or around 2 billion American dollars. This is HUGE for LGBT visibility here in Norway. The guy has been married twice (to women) and has 4 kids!

Grotesque, pathetic, and disgusting.

I can understand marriage to 1 person . Due to society pressure . But two

He has supported LGBT rights for years, R1. He's not one of those self hating Republicans who donate to anti LGBT causes, only to be busted for being gay themselves. He gave 500k kroner in support of the curch election so gay couples can be married in the church. This was before he came out btw.

2 billion in this world today is like the 10,000th richest person.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | October 2, 2015 10:25 AM |
He's the 6th richest in Norway apparently, according to the article. The fact that more people have become mega rich is not his fault, and it's not something the world should strive for anyway.

I'm interested in people who come to terms with being gay in later life.
I only figured it out when I was 22. I thought that was late....

So he's bisexual
by Anonymous | reply 12 | October 2, 2015 3:25 PM |
You might say that, R12, but he thinks of himself as gay.
The thing is.. it was illegal to be gay in Norway until 1972. It was pretty much unheard of to be out. People hardly knew what it was back then. Also, you should probably not count his second marriage because well.. apparently rumor has it (though it's only a rumor of course) that it was just a marriage of convenience, he married his beard basically. There's been rumors since the 90s that he's gay. Apparently been an open secret in the gay community for years.

He burst out of the closet after seeing yesterday's Nick Jonas bubble butt thread.

I always find it weird when a guy with multiple wives and kids decides to come out as gay. Come on man, that's bisexual.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | October 2, 2015 10:14 PM |
Just a small update: apparently he said he was bisexual in the interview, not gay. The first reports of him coming out said he came out as gay, only to be changed to bisexual. I'm not sure if I truly believe he's bisexual, considering everything I've heard. Yeah, they were only rumors. But still.. there's some rumors saying his second marriage was a scam. I mean.. if he was gay and if she was in on it, then it'd make sense. He claims she didn't know about him being bisexual and that his sexuality was not the reason the marriage ended. Again.. not sure if I believe it but ok.
Also.. Queerty wrote about this.

R15. Norwegians are intact as are the overwhelming majority of Europeans and most of the rest of the world.

[quote]“I gradually discovered that I was attracted to men,” he explained. “I was almost 30 years old when I realized I was bisexual.”
A quote from the queerty article. I've heard this from a number of bisexuals: that they discover their same-sex attraction much later in life (20s/30s/40s/even 50s). Doesn't this negate the whole theory that homosexuality is fixed at birth? I'm gay and I always assumed that was from birth and immutable but now I'm not so sure. We seem to now have embraced the idea of fluid sexuality but how does that jive with the whole 'born this way' mantra. If we're all agreeing now that sexuality is fluid and can change throughout a person's lifetime then doesn't that make the whole nature/nurture argument moot?

He's a hot daddy no matter how rich he is.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | October 3, 2015 10:15 AM |
R25, just because he discovered it late doesn't mean he wasn't born that way. It just means he was oblivious to his same sex feelings for many years probably because he was also attracted to women. Why would he even give it a second thought if he was attracted to women, like "I'm attracted to women, so I can't be gay". In a way I do feel for bisexuals, it's probably a lot more confusing being bi than gay, If you're gay at least you are attracted to one gender and you just know. With bisexuals they can go many years being attracted to women, thinking they're straight. I bet this is why so many closeted actors can fly under the radar too, and yes, why bisexuals in general come out later in life.

Bi now, Gay later.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | October 3, 2015 12:08 PM |
r27, appreciate the response. My issue is that these people aren't saying they suppressed a part of themselves since their teens and that's why they are coming out later in life as bi. No, these people are saying that they actually developed same-sex attractions, that were not there previously, in their 20s/30s and beyond. This guy (and many other like him) are basically saying if you showed him gay porn at 25 there would be no attraction but at 35 there would be a different response. Doesn't the experience of bisexuals contradict the theory that we are born with a fixed sexual orientation?
by Anonymous | reply 29 | October 3, 2015 2:51 PM |
Honestly, R29, I just think he was oblivious to his same sex attractions. He just buried them deep inside because he always knew he liked women, so he couldn't possibly be gay or like guys. It's not as much of a case of "not liking gay porn" at the age of 25, more the fact that it wouldn't even cross him to watch gay porn at the age of 25. I hope you understand what I'm trying to say here because it's kinda hard to explain. I guess we will never know how or what he felt though, as long as he himself doesn't come out with it.
