[quote]Lastly, my fans who are women mean the world to me. This is especially true of Black women, who as a group have supported my work long before the industry knew my name. I deeply regret and am ashamed that I said anything to disappoint or disparage them. I apologize with my whole heart for referring to women in the way that I did. The word 'female' used in the manner that I did is dismissive and strips women of their humanity. It is a slang term that guys sometimes use to sound slick and cool coming up

I think he's super hot (even with the weird neck - find a profile shot and you'll see)... and this new bod with the protein shakes and gym membership is hot! Hopefully he has some sexier scenes in this very average looking movie.

Don't think he's a very good actor though.. quite forced in Fruitvale Station (then again, the whole film was).

by Anonymousreply 37September 26, 2015 7:11 PM

Those chicks at LSA have been dragging his ass up and down the street like a damn rag (stealing from Mama Joyce) for the last two days due to that GQ interview. He was already on thin ice with them anyway because he made a lot of disparaging remarks about their hair (and you know sisthas are VERY sensitive about their hair, rightly so), so he's in damage control now because he realize that he may potentially lose his biggest supporters.

He's desperate for Creed to be a hit because this is his one and only shot to prove that he can be a box office star (especially with The Fantastic 4 flopping).

by Anonymousreply 38September 26, 2015 7:16 PM

Of course.

by Anonymousreply 71November 14, 2015 12:01 AM

I hate LA because they make nearly everything so race-related. And they're generally nasty to new posters. DL isn't even as bad.

MBJ isn't ugly because he's black, he's just ugly. Blank eyes, no chin and weird looking space between his chin and neck. Keep on reaching.

by Anonymousreply 75November 14, 2015 12:15 AM

Complaining about LSA being too "race-related" is like complaining about DL making everything gay-related (and trust me, the posters at DL make nearly everything gay-related).

But, yes, the pelican chin and other comments they made when they dragged MBJ for nearly two days was comedy gold. The "bro/dude" 'mo who's salivating over MBJ better hope Creed is a success for MBJ's sake.

Michael B. Jordan is totally down for a 'Creed' sequel

Michael B. Jordan would gladly slip on Adonis's boxing gloves again for a Creed sequel.

"A character so rich as this, and the world he's in, I want to see what happens to him next and what he does," Jordan told the Associated Press in an interview. "Especially the way it ends off, it's pretty cool. I think with success and time and circumstances, it would be exciting to come back and work with (co-stars) Sly (Stallone) and Tessa (Thompson) again." = Director Ryan Coogler also shared that he'd be excited to do a sequel.

The film, which begins a new chapter in the iconic Rocky franchise, follows Apollo Creed's grandson, Adonis (Jordan).

It performed well at the box office after opening last week, snagging $42.6 million over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. The film was beat out only by juggernaut The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 and Pixar's The Good Dinosaur.

Oscar buzz has also been brewing for the film, particularly for Sylvester Stallone's performance. But according to Rocky himself, all recognition should go to Coogler.

“I think it’s because of what this young man and has done and how he directed it. He just put me in a good light,” Stallone said in an interview with Variety.

5 Reasons Why ‘Creed’ Became a Box Office Champ

Stellar casting, strong word of mouth and nostalgia played into the success of seventh “Rocky” movie

“Creed,” a spin-off of the “Rocky” franchise, punched well above its weight, earning $42.1 million for the five-day Thanksgiving weekend.

Even its $30 million haul for the three-day weekend represented the biggest box office gross of any of the seven films in the boxing series.

That was good enough for writer-director Ryan Coogler‘s $35 million production to place a strong third for the weekend behind reigning champion “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2” ($52 million) and Disney/Pixar’s “The Good Dinosaur” ($39.2 million).

1. A fresh twist on a familiar franchise 2. Jordan expands the audience 3. Knock-out word of mouth 4. Great timing in the ring 5. Title avoided case of sequelitis

Oh, wow, I didn't realize Ryan Coogler (of Fruitvale Station) directed this film. He's a very talented director. To have directed the wonderful Fruitvale Station and then had a big critical and commercial success with Creed all before he's turned 30? Sounds like a very bright future for him.

Creed: The Oscar Contender We Should Have Seen Coming

A Rocky sequel? For Best Picture? Believe it.

You’ve heard the story a thousand times. A contender nobody saw coming—a newcomer, an underdog, an oddball nobody knew what to do with—enters the ring in the 11th hour, and blows them all away. It’s the story of Rocky Balboa that won a best-picture Oscar in 1976. And now it’s the story of Creed, as critics begin to weigh in on what might be the next emotional boxing drama to win over the public and the Academy alike.

A reunion between Fruitvale Station director Ryan Coogler and star Michael B. Jordan, Creed is a Rocky . . . spin-off? Sequel? Somewhere in-between, maybe; Sylvester Stallone is there, bringing remarkable depth to yet another turn as the Italian Stallion, and Jordan is playing Adonis Johnson, illegitimate son of Rocky’s old nemesis and eventual friend Apollo Creed. But Stallone is here strictly as support for the younger class, settling into the Burgess Meredith trainer role and allowing the remarkable Jordan to carry the film.

The fact that he carries it so nimbly, and with such a startling combination of ferocity and tenderness, isn’t a surprise for anyone who saw Fruitvale Station or even Jordan’s turn on Friday Night Lights. But it’s still an enormous boon to Creed, a brawny and fairly traditional sports movie that excels with every surprisingly emotional punch. In a year when it had looked very possible, once again, that every single acting Oscar nominee would be white (cue #oscarssowhite), Jordan represents an opportunity for the Academy to look toward a more diverse, younger, better future. At 28, he’s still young for a best-actor winner (Adrien Brody was the youngest-ever winner at 29), but don’t rule him out, either; in a best-actor race that’s still fairly open until we see Leonardo DiCaprio and The Revenant, a push for Jordan could go far.

As a sport drama opening Thanksgiving weekend, in between The Hunger Games and Star Wars, Creed seemed to have potential (Fruitvale Station made a promising but ultimately unrealized run for the awards in 2013), but with a high risk factor: tampering with Rocky is no small thing, and did anyone really ask for another Rocky movie anyway? But the film is so successful that nearly anything now seems possible, and wouldn’t it be perfectly in the spirit of Rocky for Creed to surprise everybody in other categories, too? Our critic Richard Lawson will weigh in shortly with a full review, but in the meantime, let us turn our focus back to Oscar. A few other places where Creed oughta be a contender:

Best Picture. The legacy of Rocky remains strong, even four sequels later, and Creed does an excellent job of connecting itself to its best-picture-winning history (and maybe less to its Ivan Drago years). Boxing movies are weirdly sticky with the Academy—remember how Million Dollar Baby came out of nowhere to surprise everyone in 2005?—and with the fizzling of the Jake Gyllenhaal vehicle Southpaw, there’s not much competition in that arena. Maybe most important, only The Martian can match Creed for its populist, crowd-pleasing joys matched with quality—and with as many as 10 best-picture nominees possible, there’s more than enough room for both.

Best Director. We could refer you back to the #oscarssowhite problem, but Ryan Coogler’s direction stands alone by any measure. As he did with Fruitvale Station, he brings the camera inside the mind and spirit of a main character who is not always emotionally forthcoming, and in scenes of intimacy—especially when Adonis and girlfriend Bianca (a very good if underused Tessa Thompson) are getting to know each other—he brings the audience in even closer. That works in the ring, too; one fight in the middle of the film happens in a single take, or at least appears to, so seamlessly that it feels like watching a magic trick. Youth may work against Coogler as well—the director category is even less traditionally friendly to young upstarts—but the Academy ought to seize the opportunity to recognize this emerging talent early.

Best Original Score. This may not even be possible, given the way that Creed plays with and ultimately revives the original, iconic Rocky score (Academy rules about “original” in this and the song categories are notoriously brutal). But who cares! The way composer Ludwig Göransson plays with, sets up, teases, then finally brings in those blaring trumpets is nearly as satisfying as a triumph in the ring itself. You can’t get through Creed without wanting to hear “Ba BUM ba da DUM ba da DUM da da DUM” and raise your fists in the air, so if bringing back “Gonna Fly Now” costs them Oscar eligibility, it will have been worth it.

I was shocked to learn that he used to be that toothpick Reggie on All My Children.

by Anonymousreply 107December 2, 2015 6:48 PM

I'm confused. Since "woman" has the word "man" in it, and "female" has the word "male" in it, can someone please explain to me why some people consider "female" a derogatory or dismissive term but think "woman" is fine? I'm sorry, but to me it seems more natural to write or talk about a "female cab driver" than a "woman cab driver," for example, because I think it sounds weird to use "woman" as an adjective.

by Anonymousreply 108December 2, 2015 7:42 PM

How You Can Get Michael B. Jordan's Jacked Creed Arms

Anybody up for two tickets to the gun show? When you first see Apollo Creed’s son Adonis, played by Michael B. Jordan, attempt to step out of his father’s shadow in Creed, you're likely to notice Jordan’s impressively ripped physique like never before. After less-jacked roles in Fantastic 4 and Fruitvale Station, the actor packed on his most muscle ever for the critically-acclaimed Rocky sequel.

“Mike is very athletic,” says Corey Calliet, the personal trainer behind Jordan’s transformation for Fantastic 4 and Creed. “That makes my job a little bit easier.” A former amateur boxer and bodybuilder, Calliet trained Jordan two hours a day—sometimes twice a day—to have him resemble the chiseled builds of peak-period Apollo Creed and Rocky Balboa.

“I was really big on how the back looked because there’s a lot of shots from behind," Calliet says. "We carved out the biceps really well and he had really nice triceps already so we just defined those.”For those hoping to somehow attain Jordan’s buff look, Calliet advises "working really hard at the basics" and paying attention to diet as much as exercises. “Before you train, you want to load up on carbohydrates to give you the energy that you need for your metabolism to speed up and so you’re able to burn fat," he says. "After you finish training, put carbohydrates back in you so your body can replenish the nutrients that it lost."

While Jordan’s full regimen included 45-60 minutes of daily cardio, an ab series three days a week and a day of leg exercises and plyometric training, we’ve narrowed it down to sculpting the perfect arms. Though the reps should stay consistent, the weight is whatever you can handle: "If you're doing 10 pounds, 20 times that’s nothing," explains Calliet "But if you move it up to 15 pounds and you rep out 18 and have to work for your last two, that’s what you want to work with and grow on every day.”

This guy is a total charisma void. Stallone carries this entire film and considering it's all callbacks to the original film, he carries the script too. I like the central idea and there are some really enjoyable moments but mostly, at best, it's a serviceable entertainment. Stallone should've co-written the script and someone other than Coogler should've directed - he didn't know how to orchestrate or build the big, populist moments and make them set pieces. It was very flat. Without Stallone this would've been nothing.

Michael B Jordan was outstanding in this role

by Anonymousreply 119January 18, 2016 2:19 PM

Who else remembers him on All My Children? Didn't Jackson adopt him? I forget the character name.

by Anonymousreply 120January 18, 2016 2:40 PM

[quote]Who else remembers him on All My Children? Didn't Jackson adopt him? I forget the character name.

Reggie -- Jack did adopt him. I did not think he was a great actor, or necessarily attractive, but he did have something and seemed to have potential He never really had much of a story besides being Bianca's and Kendell's step-brother. They did start to have him in a romance with Amanda Seyfried's character. They ended up dropping Amanda and back burning Jordan, so tells you about their eye for young talent at that time.

He does not have too much to say about the show (not only was it a soap -- it was a soap in rapid decline), but I have heard him say he learned a lot about professionalism from Lucci.

by Anonymousreply 121January 18, 2016 2:50 PM

He's hot

by Anonymousreply 122January 26, 2016 2:39 AM

Is he, like, married with children or something? (I don't keep up with that stuff.) Because the word "gay" hasn't come up on this entire thread. Where are all the usual "who's had him?" comments?

by Anonymousreply 123January 26, 2016 2:59 AM

Hes a young, single guy. Straight. Juicy dick.

by Anonymousreply 124January 26, 2016 3:42 AM

So glad that Wallace didn't die and is now a buff young man. If that evil String thinks he's getting an Oscar nom before Wallace he needs to think again.

Seriously when it comes down to it, it's still a fucking Rocky movie.

He has lot a lot of bulk, but he has a natural mesomorphic body structure that is a dream for most men. His shoulders are so broad.

That pubic hair on his chin(or lack thereof)only makes it more noticeable. He would be okay looking if not for that profile.

Oh, hell no. This dude is a thousand times hotter.

by Anonymousreply 139January 28, 2017 7:12 PM

I wonder if he enjoys getting rimmed?

by Anonymousreply 152March 16, 2018 1:33 AM

"Morris Chestnut is a hot daddy now, he's almost 50! Black don't crack."

This is gonna sound crazy, but as physically hot as Morris Chestnut has always been, he seems passionless/boring. I wonder if he'd be a hot fuck or just something nice to look at.

Morris gets better looking every year. Michael B is just dreamy! I think that he really is not that into being all buff but does keep in shape. Loved him since The Wire. Good actor.

by Anonymousreply 165September 30, 2018 10:29 PM

MJB is 31. How much longer does he have to find a girlfriend, get married and have children before we can safely assume he doesn't prefer ladies? Young guys are staying single out here for much longer these days...

by Anonymousreply 166September 30, 2018 11:02 PM

I've lusted for his luscious lips and hot body since Parenthood. If his nipples were just a little bigger, he'd be perfect.
