She's one of the best examples of two lilly White parents producing an offspring who appears to have Black features. Even then tone of her voice sounds Black.
Great voice. Unfortunate face.

R1, what does your mother look like?

Somebody's lying

I knew a South African woman who was 100% German Jewish. She totally looked black though and people thought she was "Cape Coloured" which annoyed her no end.

Was shocked to find out she was white. I thought for sure she was just a very fair-skinned black woman. Love her voice. Very sad but inspiring life story. Would've made a great TV movie back when they still made inspiring TV movies.

Her mom liked BBC.

When she was replaced by Aretha Franklin on the theme song to A Different World, she never recovered.

One of the professors at my school looked 100% Black, even wore braids. You should have seen the jaws drop when she revealed both of her parents were White Jews.

Phoebe was EVERYTHING. Love her, love everything she did.
DON'T NOBODY BE TRYING TO SHADE MISS PHOEBE!
by Anonymous | reply 9 | August 31, 2015 2:49 AM |
Literally, eh, R9?
by Anonymous | reply 10 | August 31, 2015 3:04 AM |
What you say? She's not black, not even a little? Come on.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | August 31, 2015 3:11 AM |
Phoebe Snow was adopted.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 31, 2015 3:14 AM |
She was not adopted. Phoebe Snow was born Pheobe Ann Laub to two Jewish parents in Edison, NJ. I k.ow several Jews who are often mistaken fof Black.

Me too.

So, I see the "There's absolutely no way two White parents can produce a Black looking child" troll is conveniently absent from this thread. Interesting.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 31, 2015 10:50 AM |
I don't think Phoebe Snow looked black. Classic Sephardic Jewish look, down to the extra-curly hair.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 31, 2015 11:13 AM |
She was actually intrigued by the idea and was going to have a DNA test to find out. Her attitude was that it was possible that somewhere in her Sephardic Jewish ancestry there could have been some ancestry from Africa. Unfortunately, she had a massive CVA before she could get around to it.

Why didn't she have those moles removed from her face?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 31, 2015 11:42 AM |
Like brown eyes, I believe our DNA defaults to African coding for detailing.

Aren't Jews at least part Middle Eastern? Maybe that's where the exotic look comes from?
by Anonymous | reply 21 | August 31, 2015 1:46 PM |
How the HELL could you not tell she was white? You people are really racist.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | August 31, 2015 1:48 PM |
Verda Byrd, a 70-year-old Texas woman, found out only recently that she is white after having been raised by black adoptive parents. To me she doesn't look white, though.

Well I really guess it gives true meaning to the term jewfro.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | August 31, 2015 4:12 PM |
Yes it does.

Oh, please. Give that shit a rest. Everybody thought she was black.
You think she got that "Different World" gig for being a white girl?
by Anonymous | reply 28 | April 26, 2019 10:08 AM |
Love her. But I also always thought she was black.

Her daughter

Truth...
Her Different World theme was much MUCH better than Aretha's.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | April 26, 2019 2:19 PM |
She grew up next door to Beverly sills and would hear her doing scales. They both were on a talk show (merv?) And discussed the connection.
