When Don Rickles kissed Bob Newhart on the mouth as a "joke". Aside from porn, the second time was in 1985 on a tv show called Hometown. Two straight guys greeted each other with a kiss on the lips. I guess they wanted some controversy to bring in the viewers, but it went ignored.

The first time I kissed a guy.

In the 70’s, my parents (Dorothy & Harold) came to visit me in NYC. I lived in the East Village and had a 9 to 5 job, so during the day, they would do touristy stuff like going to the Empire State Building, or taking the Circle Line around Manhattan.

We met up one evening for dinner, and I asked them what they had done during the day. My mother said “Oh, we walked all through Greenwich Village. It was fun. We had lunch at a nice restaurant (The Pink Teacup), we went to Washington Square Park, and saw lots of interesting people. We even saw two men kissing.”

I paused for a second, a bit surprised by the comment. “Oh really. What did you do?”

“What else could I do?” Dorothy responded. “I screamed, HAROLD, GET THE CAMERA!”

The two leather guys that share a kiss in After Hours by Scorsese, i think was the first time i saw two men kissing. i must have been 10 or 12 yo. Great movie, btw

Can't remember for sure. But I think the first time I was aware of one man kissing another was the poster for a mafia movie called "The Brotherhood." The ad campaign consisted of a large photograph of Kirk Douglas holding Alex Cord's face with both hands and kissing him on the mouth.

A strange message, to be sure, since, in Mafia language, when a Don kisses another man on the mouth like this, it means he's going to kill him. So, inherent in the image of the two men kissing is the understanding that one of them is soon going to be killing the other. Which makes the image of them kissing deadly.

Love leads only to death, this poster seems to be saying. (Oh, sure, in the movie, they're brothers, but who could tell that from just looking at the poster? The poster is of two hot men kissing on the mouth. And, as I recall, Cord, is holding a shotgun while they're doing it. More symbolism!)

So, go ahead, it seemed to tell me, kiss a man. But you'll get killed for doing it.

It's small wonder I had conflicted feelings about loving men. For a long time, I was unable to kiss a man, and I have met many men who will gobble down my cock, who will want me to fuck them hard, but who turn their heads away when I try to kiss them. (Like one of the old adages I've heard about the Marines: "You can fuck a Marine, but you can't fuck with a Marine.")

Interestingly, Al Pacino kissed John Casale, both also playing brothers, some years later, in "Godfather II," but they weren't nearly as hot as Douglas and Cord. And, their kiss certainly wasn't used as the ad campaign for the movie, not by a long shot...
