Don't they realize how gay they look?
Bodybuilders flexing in front of the mirror at the gym

They don't "look gay" to me. They look like young bodybuilders. Straight, gay, bi, there isn't much visual difference these days, nor is there much difference in behaviour.
Do you mean they look gay because preening is "gay"? It's not.

They're not attractive and looking too desperate for people's attention makes their body even less interesting to look at.
I think I prefer pro bodybuilders, they know better how to exploit the erotic potential of the muscular body.

Left hand side, dark hair, has a nice face!

His Instagram is just one big essay on Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Oh, and he's a god botherer, as well. Someone needs to check the Bible on what it says about vanity.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | August 5, 2015 1:34 AM |
Psychology defines narcissism as something more perverse and heavily related to sociopahty and psychopathy. We could instead call this vanity, shallowness and compensation.

The blond so desperately wants to be handsome on his instagram pics. Lots of photoshop and careful posing. He's perfectly average in the face. But OK, enfin OP, yes he does look a bit gay. Nice bulge! Hope that's not faked, at least.

I laughed at the pic mentioning god and people commenting on that god.
I mean, in biblical terms, what this guy does is a sin. The body should always be covered with clothes modestly. Abrahamic religions vilify the naked body for its potential to cause sexual arousal. That's exactly what the muscular body naturally causes on other people (sexual arousal). Also, promoting a body type as ideal only for the sake of aesthetics is also seen as sinful.
Selective christianity.

They don't "look gay" to me either. THey look like hot dudebros and jocks. They look masculine. And narcissistic. Not gay though.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 6, 2015 2:59 AM |
As long as they don't let it go to fat because of an injury, or turn to opiates, or skip leg day I approve of what they are doing.
For some reason, seeing obscenely built shoulders and pecs makes my day. Knowledge of their orientation is not required.

R13, well, in the eye of the beholder I suppose. to me they look prissy and preening, girlish.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 6, 2015 3:15 AM |
To us it might look gay, but realize that each of those bodybuilders are only looking at themselves in the mirror - barely aware, most likely, of their proximity to another male body.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | August 6, 2015 3:41 AM |
I am not jealous. What I don't like about this is that it feels certain pressure to look like that. In a way, today more than ever, men are experiencing the imposition of certain beauty standards just like women have been experiencing it to date.
Most of these men suffere from different levels of low self-esteem so they rebuild a new self-esteem by building their bodies. They expose their bodies for reaffirmation and validation of their beings.

R17, to me it seems girly, like playing kissy face in the mirror, girls aren't trying to make out with each other, they are just prissy little bitches, just like these guys.

Does the confidence go away when they lose muscle?

Uh yeah, of course
by Anonymous | reply 23 | September 9, 2016 4:09 AM |
I see. Bodybuilding is a double-edged sword.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | September 9, 2016 8:12 PM |
How so
by Anonymous | reply 25 | September 9, 2016 8:46 PM |
Because muscles are highly regarded as sexually appealing they make you more attractive. Muscles also give an appearance of strength that othe rmen may feel compelled to admire/respect. This may highly boost your self-esteem: everybody wants to be anf eel attractive as well as get some respect from others, in this case, due to a threatening appearance.
On the other hand, many of these men may be dependent on their new physical appearance to validate themselves and, when they lose all that mass their self-esteem may decrease again because all the attention they got for being perceived as more attractive is not there anymore and because they no longer give the strong appearance that makes others respect you.
This may be the reason why bodybuilding is addictive for most of these men, it boosts their sef-esteem greatly and this may explain why they love posting all sorts of kinky pics and video on instagram and youtube. Imagine you being a man who has always considered youtself as unattractive, then you start working out, you developn your muscles and suddenly people start to notice your gaiins, some start flirting eith you more than ever before. Getting that affirmation and approval from others is always ego boosting but it may create dependence that makes you validate yourself through the amount of muscle mass you achieve.

All of bodybuilding is extremely gay. It's all focused on appearance, physique, voyeurism and chasing an ideal. It's not stats and performance-obsessed like more jock-ish athletics. It's men judging other men's bodies, but also studying their techniques, rigidly enforcing aesthetics and obsessing over every detail, all in skimpy thongs and covered in oil. While posing. I know, MARY!
I'm not saying all bodybuilders are gay, but...it's a very gay sport. There is an obvious gay influence to it.

I love all of the "You're just jealous" posts. I imagine they're posted by effeminate, straight-worshipping, old queens who only watch straight porn and dream of one day being swept off their feet by a G4P like at the end of a John Hughes' film.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | September 17, 2016 2:00 PM |
I think you have to be careful in the way you express the idea of bodybuilding being gay as people usually say because posts like that usually fall into the fallacy of equating homosexuality or being gay with narcissism or extreme preoccupation with looks. R33
Yes, the roots of bodybuilding are homosexual given that the exaltation of a muscular body as the ideal beauty for men was conceived in the context of same-sex attraction/desire, but preoccupation with looks is not a homosexual trait; it's a human one.
It is not because it is about physical appearance and gay men are more pretentious; it is about a body type that naturally stimulates men attracted to men. In this sense, bodybuiling is certainly gay.
