Cecil the Lion hunted and killed by Minnesota Dentist
by Anonymous | reply 517 | December 25, 2022 9:41 PM |
Fuck him and I hope he suffers terrible consequences, but I don't think it's ok to kill any lion for sport, whether it's a "special" one or not.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | July 28, 2015 5:51 PM |
Not a surprise that some asshole American would get off on this and pay some ridiculous amount for the privilege. Everyone involved should be imprisoned for gross crimes against nature.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 28, 2015 5:54 PM |
Apparently this guy has been in trouble for shit like this before. He pleaded guilty to poaching in 2008. (It's at the end of the article so you have to scroll down.)

"What a magnificent animal. Let's kill it." --George Carlin? Bill Hicks?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 28, 2015 5:55 PM |
What a fuckwit. He probably wishes he'd been in the Army or something instead of being a boring dentist.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 28, 2015 5:57 PM |
I'm pretty sure some good people in Minnesota will find a way to make this fat motherfucker regret what he did for a long time.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 28, 2015 5:58 PM |
Re the OP's picture - Let me guess, the American is the meatier one with the chins on the right.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 28, 2015 5:59 PM |
Rarely does anything on D.L. move me to tears but this did. I only hope this asshole dies an equally horrific and humiliating death at the hands of an equally violent Narcissist. Cecil was "lured" out of the park? The asshole's name is Walter Palmer. Please someone post his dental practice phone number!
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 28, 2015 6:16 PM |
No, he's the one on the left. Go down the link and you see his well-muscled body holding up a 175 lb. dead leopard he killed. This is a weight lifter masculinity junkie, probably MRA too.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 28, 2015 6:17 PM |
Dentists are by nature sadistic, so this is just him following his instinct.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 28, 2015 6:19 PM |
Honestly, what is it with these cowardly mutherfuckers?? They need to hunt something? How about trying to hunt some members of ISIS???
by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 28, 2015 6:34 PM |
His yelp reviews are down to 1 star. It does make you wonder how much of his sadism he brings with him to the office. I mean he decapitated the poor thing and is now in 'hiding'.

Anonymous loves cats; maybe they'll fuck this guy up. Did they ever go after the vet who put an arrow through the cat?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 28, 2015 6:41 PM |
I just don't get what the joy is in killing animals?
You have a weapon. Let me guess who the winner will be.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 28, 2015 6:41 PM |
He acts like it's mano a mano when he has a guide and a vehicle and dogs and he flew in from the other side of the world to a place where he knew the animals to be.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 28, 2015 6:43 PM |
Jesus, people can be such pieces of shit. The good news is dentists are #1 for suicides so we can only sit back and hope.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 28, 2015 6:46 PM |
When I was young and just a bad little kid,
My momma noticed funny things I did.
Like shootin' puppies with a BB-Gun.
I'd poison guppies, and when I was done,
I'd find a pussy-cat and bash in its head.
That's when my momma said...
(Chorus) What did she say?
She said my boy I think some day
You'll find a way
To make your natural tendencies pay...
You'll be a dentist.
(Chorus) You'll be a dentist
You have a talent for causing things pain!
(Chorus) Pain!
Son, be a dentist.
(Chorus) Son be a dentist
People will pay you to be inhumane!
(Chorus) Inhumane!
by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 28, 2015 6:48 PM |
Gosh, I don't want this man to ever drill into my teeth. This guy is a sadist. Someone please do the same to him as he did to the lion.
May the gorgeous creature RIP.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | July 28, 2015 6:48 PM |
Do we know if he hunted Cecil on purpose or maybe requested him specifically, or was Cecil just the unlucky lion lured out of the park?

by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 28, 2015 6:58 PM |
He should be skinned alive and beheaded, and his body fed to the lions. His head should be mounted at the airport with a sign reading........" Beware tourists, this could be YOU!"

r28 = example #5731 in the ongoing series "Animal lovers are mentally ill"
by Anonymous | reply 31 | July 28, 2015 7:14 PM |
You don't have to be an "animal lover" whatever the twisted fuck that is, freak - to see that this is an act of inhumanity to a living creature. We can all imagine a fitting end for this human excrement, that doesn't mean we would act on it. The "good doctor" acted on his needs and murdered a lion who never did a goddamn thing to him.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | July 28, 2015 7:21 PM |
He looks like a serial killer.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | July 28, 2015 7:25 PM |
R9 Indeed I was wrong, he does appear pretty fit. But that doesn't make him any less of a turd.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | July 28, 2015 7:25 PM |
Thank you for sharing your mental illness with us, r24. Hopefully you will seek help.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | July 28, 2015 7:27 PM |
Are you vegetarians, r32 and r35?
by Anonymous | reply 36 | July 28, 2015 7:28 PM |
R26 But eating meat that comes from livestock isn't really the same as killing a member of an endangered species for fun.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | July 28, 2015 7:29 PM |
He's also a perv and paid over $100,000 to an employee who he sexually harassed/groped.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | July 28, 2015 7:30 PM |
I think wanting him killed and beheaded is a little extreme, but I wouldn't mind seeing him being arrested by the Zimbabwean authorities and thrown in a nasty, Midnight Express-style jail for a bit.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | July 28, 2015 7:31 PM |
He is being eviscerated on Yelp - River Bluff Dental in Bloomington, MN.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | July 28, 2015 7:31 PM |
R37 Since when where dentists that rich?
by Anonymous | reply 41 | July 28, 2015 7:31 PM |
What a disgusting human (?) being. I (kind of) get hunting for food, but sport hunters are sickening. R19, he does remind me of Steve Martin's evil dentist in Little Shop of Horrors. I sincerely wish the worst for him and anyone he loves (assuming he's capable of such an emotion).
RIP Cecil . Rot in hell, Walter Palmer, DDS.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | July 28, 2015 7:32 PM |
Is he retired? You'd think if he had a practice to maintain that he wouldn't have risked the backlash. But dentists, like doctors, often have a god complex for some strange reason so he probably thinks he can just do whatever he wants, consequences be damned.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | July 28, 2015 7:33 PM |
R42 Or the Nazi dentist from Marathon Man.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | July 28, 2015 7:34 PM |
WEHT that 19-year-old cunt that blew up Twitter back in January with her hunting pics? Did she still get her tv show?
by Anonymous | reply 45 | July 28, 2015 7:34 PM |
r37
Eh - maybe not the same, but the differences are gradual rather than essential. The only argument that really holds is the endangered species one - but a) lions aren't on the protected species list and b) it's a selfish argument rather than a moral one (i.e." we'd like to keep these beautiful animals around" rather than "it's wrong to hurt or end the life of this creature").
by Anonymous | reply 46 | July 28, 2015 7:37 PM |
When I heard about this on the radio and they said the lion was known for its distinctive black mane, I immediately thought of Scar from The Lion King.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | July 28, 2015 7:37 PM |
If you google this cunt he really thinks of himself as a tough guy. Hopefully someone soon beats the shit out him and put him into a coma.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | July 28, 2015 7:40 PM |
What makes so many of you think that animals do not suffer and feel pain? That they do not die slow and agonizing deaths at the hands of sick fucks like Dr. Demento, demon dentist?
Why shouldn't part of one's sentence be suffering pain similar to what they inflicted on another human being or an animal?
by Anonymous | reply 49 | July 28, 2015 7:41 PM |
The thing is, r39, you'll never hear these fuckers indulge in these kinds of excessive revenge fantasies about someone who has killed a human being - it's only dead animals that get their blood raging like this. That's how you know that something's wrong with them.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | July 28, 2015 7:41 PM |
Now that Cecil is dead, the next lion in the hierarchy will most likely kill Cecil's cubs. This is heart breaking.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | July 28, 2015 7:43 PM |
He wounded the animal and it suffered for several hours, they they killed it.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | July 28, 2015 7:43 PM |
R46 I thought this lion belonged to an endangered breed of lion. All the same there's millions of cows on the planet but comparatively few lions. At the very least I think killing exotic wildlife in this manner is tasteless. If an spear-carrying African tribesman does it as a rite of passage or something, I can kind of respect that, but a rich American tourist doing it for sheer self-gratification, fuck off!
by Anonymous | reply 53 | July 28, 2015 7:44 PM |
But think of all the antilopes the good doctor has spared from a slow and agonizing death at the hands of Cecil, r49.
What are you, some kind of sick antilope hater?
by Anonymous | reply 54 | July 28, 2015 7:44 PM |
It suffered more than several hours, r54, it suffered for 40 hours - nearly 2 full days.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | July 28, 2015 7:44 PM |
R54 Antelope, not antilope.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | July 28, 2015 7:46 PM |
Oh, I certainly don't respect this guy, r53, I agree that he's a crass bastard - but I find people indulging in lurid torture and murder fantasies about him much more worrying.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | July 28, 2015 7:47 PM |
R50 How do you know they don't?
by Anonymous | reply 58 | July 28, 2015 7:47 PM |
Animal lovers are the kindest and most compassionate people on this earth. And that kindness extends to humans and and animals alike. They are also the loyalest people on earth.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | July 28, 2015 7:48 PM |
Sorry, r56, it's "antilope" in my native language - easy mistake to make. Don't let that distract you from the question.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | July 28, 2015 7:49 PM |
Far better to have fantasies than to actually commit the crime..........
by Anonymous | reply 61 | July 28, 2015 7:51 PM |
In one of the pictures it shows him next to a dead rhino. It can't possibly be legal to hunt rhinos, can it? Aren't they close to extinction?
Fuck this guy
by Anonymous | reply 62 | July 28, 2015 7:54 PM |
And the lion is such a beautiful noble-looking creature, I can't quite understand how you would want to kill it (unless it was about to kill you)
by Anonymous | reply 63 | July 28, 2015 8:01 PM |
I don't tend to see it in threads about murdered humans on DL, r50. But open any thread about a killed animal...
by Anonymous | reply 64 | July 28, 2015 8:01 PM |
R60 What language is that?
by Anonymous | reply 65 | July 28, 2015 8:01 PM |
(I meant to adress r58.)
by Anonymous | reply 66 | July 28, 2015 8:02 PM |
German, r65.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | July 28, 2015 8:03 PM |
R67 OK, sorry, I thought you just couldn't spell.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | July 28, 2015 8:05 PM |
I hope Anonymous rakes this asshole over every on-line coal possible, shutting down his accounts, publicly humiliating him and destroying his business, as he so sadistically and cowardly took that magnificent animal's life. He deserves all the public shaming that comes his way.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | July 28, 2015 8:07 PM |
[R38] Lovely. First class creep. [R62] Precisely why activists have taken to dyeing horn/baby seal fur and having armed guards protecting African wildlife. Sadly, "pro" guides are likely poor, feed large families and lacking rich American options.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | July 28, 2015 8:07 PM |
R70 From what I've seen, guides tend to be white Afrikaner types rather than poor black Africans.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | July 28, 2015 8:11 PM |
No problem, r68, it was a reasonable assumption.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | July 28, 2015 8:12 PM |
So it's not that he can't spell -- he's just a German.
I agree R57, the guy seems clearly to have a history of illegal hunting so his defense is suspect, and I'm heartbroken at the death of the animal, but all the bloodthirsty fantasies about torturing the guy are their own form of deep weirdness.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | July 28, 2015 8:13 PM |
He has issued a statement:
I hired several professional guides, and they secured all proper permits,” the statement read. “To my knowledge, everything about this trip was legal and properly handled and conducted.
“I had no idea that the lion I took was a known, local favorite, was collared and part of a study until the end of the hunt. I relied on the expertise of my local professional guides to ensure a legal hunt.”
“Again, I deeply regret that my pursuit of an activity I love and practice responsibly and legally resulted in the taking of this lion,” the statement concluded.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | July 28, 2015 8:13 PM |
How about we just put creepy dentist in the jungle, naked and unarmed? Let him learn a lesson from first hand experience.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | July 28, 2015 8:14 PM |
Great. Now the Friends of Dorothy are upset with me for killing The Lion.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | July 28, 2015 8:14 PM |
He deserves more than a public shaming. He's a sociopath, a poacher and a sexual predator. I hope they find him dead, beheaded and skinned.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | July 28, 2015 8:15 PM |
[quote]Animal lovers are the kindest and most compassionate people on this earth. And that kindness extends to humans and and animals alike. They are also the loyalest people on earth.
I'm an animal lover. I've been vegetarian for over 20 years because I don't want to hurt animals. But my animal loving stops with humans, especially with human excrement like this dentist. I'd like to enter a cage with this disgusting little cunt fuck and beat the shit out of him. I'm fair, I'd let him fight me without any disadvantage unlike the animals who have no chance against coward hunters like him.
It gives me great pleasure to know that he'll probably live the rest of his life fearing that some lunatic animal lover might come any moment and put a bullet in him.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | July 28, 2015 8:17 PM |
Generalize much, Sigmund Fraud? AKA R50. Some of us have spent a good part of our lives attempting to alleviate "human" suffering. That doesn't make us saints of course. Anymore than wanting assholes like this to get his means that we are "mentally ill". Did calling him out as a Narcissist push some buttons? I myself would gladly go Nurse Ratchet on his sorry ass. I feel the same way about child molesters. Sue me.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | July 28, 2015 8:18 PM |
"To my knowledge?" Yeah. Right.
His only regret is that he got caught, and is now suffering the ramifications of his dirty deed.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | July 28, 2015 8:20 PM |
R50 , there are 7 billion people on the planet. There are 21,000 lions. They are going extinct. If you don't understand why the lion's life was worth more than the sadistic poacher that slaughtered him, you're a fucking, narcissistic imbecile.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | July 28, 2015 8:22 PM |
Now, that's the kind of man I could get behind !!
by Anonymous | reply 82 | July 28, 2015 8:26 PM |
I hope he is captured and tortured by Boris and Natasha.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | July 28, 2015 8:26 PM |
Sure, now he's blaming his guides. Someone needs to ask him why the fuck he needed to kill a lion to mount its head on a wall in the first place. Hunting would be a lot more challenging if the animals were armed.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | July 28, 2015 8:28 PM |

Man will wipe out the lions. That is very, very sad. "Lions are extinct" will be headline 50 years.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | July 28, 2015 8:39 PM |
So all of you against the death penalty how would feel about this man being executed by being hunted down and killed by a lion?
by Anonymous | reply 90 | July 28, 2015 8:46 PM |
😿 How could he?
by Anonymous | reply 91 | July 28, 2015 8:48 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 95 | July 28, 2015 8:55 PM |
Remember, r95........Cows are also the source of your leather S&M "supplies"
by Anonymous | reply 96 | July 28, 2015 8:59 PM |

Cows are used to provide meat and leather, among other things. What purpose is served by killing a lion? Who benefits?

R107 I do!
by Anonymous | reply 108 | July 28, 2015 9:33 PM |
I don't know if there is any legal punishment that can be brought against him at this time. I'd like to see someone get to the head and/or hide wherever they are and vandalize them. Dump red paint on them, shave the fur/hair, maybe mess up the head into something goofy looking. Waste the time and money he spent on his "hunt".
by Anonymous | reply 109 | July 28, 2015 9:35 PM |
R108, Voo doo?
by Anonymous | reply 110 | July 28, 2015 9:37 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 112 | July 28, 2015 9:42 PM |
It's heartwarming to know that the evil Doc Palmer got caught on such a grand scale. And now, the entire world knows.
Ah, the joys of social networking!
by Anonymous | reply 113 | July 28, 2015 9:45 PM |
R107 - neither the food or the leather from a cow is necessary. The cow is killed for your pleasure. The lion is killed for the hunter's pleasure.
by Anonymous | reply 114 | July 28, 2015 9:47 PM |
Sad for the animals and angry with rich cunts who hunt.
by Anonymous | reply 115 | July 28, 2015 9:52 PM |
No, R114, a cow is not killed for "pleasure." Human beings need meat. Meat provides nutritional value not found anywhere else, it's why vegans and vegetarians have to take supplements.
I was a vegetarian for nearly 20, but people like you are insufferable.

That "man" is disgusting. The pathetic creep spends all that money to kill a lion who wasn't attacking him and known to be friendly. Imagine what good all that money could have been used for. He should be sent to one of those horrible African jail for life.
by Anonymous | reply 119 | July 28, 2015 10:17 PM |
Someone spending so much money to kill an animal for "sport" makes me think that rich people aren't paying high enough taxes.
by Anonymous | reply 120 | July 28, 2015 10:22 PM |
I could have fed my brothers and sister for years on what that bastard spent to murder our friend.
by Anonymous | reply 121 | July 28, 2015 10:23 PM |
R121 Methinks you could feed an American family for years with 35 grand.
by Anonymous | reply 122 | July 28, 2015 10:25 PM |
With an additional 35K in my pocket, I could retire today!
by Anonymous | reply 123 | July 28, 2015 10:28 PM |
There always have to be a few people who throw in the "well what about eating meat so....therefore killing a lion is cool". Factory farming IS destroying the planet and yes I am a vegetarian/occasional vegan. I believe there is a huge difference between people who have grown up eating meat and see it as part of daily life and someone who chooses to seek out rare animals and pay 10's of thousands of dollars to kill so they can have a one of a kind souvenir. As much as it would be nice if everyone stopped eating meat, I think the planet will be long gone before this ever happened. Humans have pretty much destroyed the environment in the last 100 or so years and frankly I am always shocked at people who willingly want to bring more children into this world. I believe (and call me a whack job/loser/whatever) that we are well past the point of saving ourselves. Mother Nature always wins and I see a very bleak future. Humans are inherently greedy and though I believe the majority of people are good and willing to make small changes there will always be people like this guy who think "fuck it, I have money I'll do whatever I want and screw the greater good". Chinese billionaires need their shark fins and ground up tiger penis too!! The 1% will never be able to consider changing for the common good. All they do is exploit and consume without a care in the world. People who eat meat are not pure evil like this guy. I'm pretty sure most of the people here who eat meat don't get a hard on or pleasure when they actually stop to think about the whole process. Many people are looking to eat less meat or make more humane choices and I think that should be encouraged. I have no hope for people like this guy but the other posters on here show that there is kindness and awareness among people so when a few of you pull the meat eating=killing a lion argument it gets annoying. I'm married to a big time carnivore and while I don't comment on his every meal "oh my god!! A Big Mac, we are done!" we have had the occasional conversation about this topic and he has started to switch over to more ethical humane choices in meat. Taco Bell is good, I get it and I don't expect everyone to suddenly become a strict vegan. Taking small steps everyday and just being willing to hear about issues is good enough for me. So basically I love most of the posters on here. Cue the "you must be a joy to live with" and "MARY!" posts.

Two-thousand years ago, more than a million lions roamed Africa. Today, only about 30,000 remain. Today, most African lions reside in protected areas, but they still fall victim to trophy hunting. An estimated 665 lions are hunted and exported each year.

The planet's not going anywhere, we are. Our goose is cooked if we don't turn things around. Which I kind of don't think we can. Meanwhile after a few thousand years - the blink of an eye to Earth - it will be hard to find any evidence of Man's presence here.

Walter Palmer is quite piece of work. He's been in trouble before, several times.
Palmer pleaded guilty to federal charges in 2008 related to the poaching of a black bear in Wisconsin two years earlier. Palmer and others transported the bear, which was killed 40 miles outside of a legal hunting zone, to a registration station inside the legal area. Palmer was sentenced to one year of probation and fined nearly $3,000.
In the spring of 2003, Palmer was convicted in Otter Tail County in western Minnesota and paid a small fine for fishing without a license, a misdemeanor.
In 2009, Palmer agreed to a settlement with the Minnesota Board of Dentistry over allegations that he sexually harassed a receptionist. She alleged that Palmer made comments about her breasts, buttocks and genitalia. Without admitting guilt, Palmer settled and paid $127,500 to the woman, who also was his patient. The settlement included references to his bear-hunting conviction and “substandard record keeping.”
So in addition to being a scumbag who takes pleasure in killing endangered species, he's also a fuckwad who sexually harasses women. WHAT.A. BASTARD.

by Anonymous | reply 184 | July 29, 2015 4:52 AM |
The main issues are that he killed this particular lion, and how he was killed. Cecil was famous and a subject of study for biologists. He had a radio collar on and was well known to park wardens. The POS who guided the dentist, and a local farmer, lured him out of the park boundary with kill strapped to car trunks and let the Yankee kill him with a bow and arrow. Then, he was tracked for 40 hours before they finally killed him, I believe with a shot from the guide. They knew damn good and well that this was not a cull animal, and the locals would know him by sight; Cecil was famous in the area.
There are many cull lions that he could've killed. African governments allow it in order to control populations and bring in revenue. Of course the corruption is great and proof of efficacy slim, but it does happen legally. Even a lot of white SAs (including some hunters) are right pissed at this situation because they disagree with the extreme aspects of this kind of FU attitude towards big game. It also threatens to cut into their legal businesses that involve tourists. If there is a resulting boycott, they are screwed.

Otherwise, you're right. Poaching along park boundaries is a well-known phenomenon in the area. Anyone who has hunted the big five, even legally, probably knows about this practice.

They went in the middle of the night and they lured the lion out of a known national park. I find it hard to believe he didn't know considering this same vermin dragged a bear he knew he illegally killed to an area where it would then be legal. Even by hunter standards, he's just scum.

[quote]No, [R114], a cow is not killed for "pleasure." Human beings need meat. Meat provides nutritional value not found anywhere else, it's why vegans and vegetarians have to take supplements.
Human beings don't need meat. I've been lacto-ovo-vegetarian for over 20 years and I'm completely fine. I eat free-range eggs because I love baking but I could very well do without them. I do take supplements, yes, but they are all vegan. Few times I've gone on for years without taking any supplements and I was doing just as fine then as well. So no, we don't *need* meat. People eat it because they are used to it and because it tastes good. You can justify your own meat eating by telling yourself that but I guess if you were vegetarian for 20 years you already know yourself you got on just fine without meat.

by Anonymous | reply 211 | July 29, 2015 9:55 AM |
[quote]but all the bloodthirsty fantasies about torturing the guy are their own form of deep weirdness.
They're usually not bloodthirsty fantasies. They're pure, knee-jerk gainsaying. An animal is left to suffer for 40 hours and is then shot and beheaded, so someone says the human responsible should ALSO suffer 40 hours, be shot and beheaded.
The thought behind it is that, because we're the dominant species, we've forgotten that we're hurting actual living beings when we kill other animals. You see that sentiment on threads like this where a significant chunk of replies are, "So what? It's just an animal, nobody cares." So people need reminding.
The reason you don't see it as often with humans is that this is a sentiment that SHOULD go without saying when it comes to fellow human beings.

r180, I saw this on Reddit, and hopefully this will make you feel better about the cubs.
[quote]This is SOP for male lions - they don't want the genetic competition. The females won't start ovulating while they are still taking care of cubs, so it's really his only option if he wants to start making progeny right away. It really doesn't cost him anything in terms of energy to just kill off the cubs of his (now ex-) rivals. For the mothers, however, those cubs represent a massive amount of time and energy, from pregnancy to rearing. They are highly invested in their survival. Also: they're smart. The males are... less so. What the females often try to do in this situation is to hide the cubs from the male, pretend to go into estrous/heat, and have sex with the newly-dominant male lion. After enough time has passed, they "reveal" the cubs, in the hopes that the male will think that they are his. It doesn't always work, but every so often, the male goes "I have had sex with you, and now there are cubs. Everything is coming up Milhouse!"... and the cubs survive. So cross your fingers, and hope that Jericho is as gullible as his name makes him out to be. ;) Source: ex-safari guide.

THIS is what is wrong with this country. This fucking rich white man has way too much money and arrogance and figures he can do whatever the fuck he wants, when he wants to whomever/whatever he wants.
This fucker (and others like him) need to be TAXED like the rest of us. No shelters, no write offs - NOTHING. If he has this sort of petty cash lying about then he can afford to pay his fair share of taxes.
People like this fucking disgust me. I know plenty of hunters - mostly deer, turkey, rabbit or squirrel when in season. The meat and hides/fur are used. I have ZERO problem with anyone hunting those animals because they're abundant and deer are a nuisance. But bears? Lions? Rhinos? WTF??? NO.
He's an idiot, an asshole and an embarrassment to Americans everywhere.

The US actually has a very strong extradition agreement with Zimbabwe. If he is charged there, and any of his actions related to the event are also a crime here - extradition is automatic if the potential jail time exceeds one year. His payment for the kill is illegal in both countries (for different reasons) and could be grounds for extradition.
What galls me most about this is he didn't even do it for a trophy to hang in his man cave. Importing the skin or head into the US would be problematic and is a felony. He did it for the thrill of killing. Disgusting.

No, [R114], a cow is not killed for "pleasure." Human beings need meat. Meat provides nutritional value not found anywhere else, it's why vegans and vegetarians have to take supplements.
I was a vegetarian for nearly 20, but people like you are insufferable.
If you are vegan you should watch your B12 intake. But really the majority of animals killed and served as food in the US far exceeds nutritional demands. Plus the fact a supplement is available means meat isn't a necessity.
I think the people who are insufferable are the ones who hold this hypocritical opinion that killing cows is OK but killing a lion isn't.

[quote]I think the people who are insufferable are the ones who hold this hypocritical opinion that killing cows is OK but killing a lion isn't.
Being able to see moral issues in shades of gray isn't hypocrisy, it's proof of higher thinking. Being meat eaters helped the human species to evolve. We'd be more primitive if our forebears had all chosen vegetarianism. The teeth in our head alone are proof that nature intends us to eat meat.

Ok, I'm a hunter. I hunt deer. I eat the venison and sell the skin to a tanner who makes historical re-enactment clothes out it. I hunt ethically, in season and follow ALL local rules and regulations. That being said----this Dr. Palmer is a fucking cunt piece of shit who has no right to call himself a hunter. He lures an endangered animal out of a protected area, shoots it with an arrow and apparently is such a shitty shot he let the poor lion suffer for 40 FUCKING HOURS before finally shooting him with a rifle and ending his pain. Then this fucker cuts the animal's head off as a "prize" and---TRIES TO DESTROY THE GPS TRACKING COLLAR!!

Years ago I read a book about psychopaths, The Psychopath Test: A Journey Through The Madness Industry, by Jon Ronson, and I remember one of the psychopaths he interviewed was a CEO who fired and professed to love firing thousands of employees. I remember Ronson went to the guys house and found the CEO was a big game hunter with heads of rare animals all over the walls of his house. That's the first thing I thought of when I read about Cecil. Anyhow, the premise of the book was the question why with all our advances in science, technology, why doesn't life get better for all of us. And Ronson was exploring the hypothesis that it doesn't get better because the psychopaths rise to the top of the hierarchy of all mankind and call all the shots. In other words, when cooking a stew on the stove, the scum always rises to the top.

The professional guides he hired (aka the suckers who take the fall for the rich guy) worked for a company that til as of yesterday had Cecil roaring as its wall picture on Facebook. I just have a feeling that the dentist saw that and got a big boner at the thought of getting THAT lion.
The thing that's most irking me now is the repetition of the phrase that is coming from his crisis management company (J. Austin & Co) where he says he's sorry that this happened while he was doing "an activity I love and practice responsibly and legally" because WE HAVE SEEN THE RECORD AND IT PROVES HE SKIRTS THE LAW AND IS NOT RESPONSIBLE. Killing is what makes us real, it's what draws me to your skulls, to drill and hack at them. That's all they let you do, legally, without a surgeon certification. Is hack at you, and I'm happy to.
I don't have any children killed and mounted in my house. Maybe we can change that. Look away or something while I shove your kids into a golf bag. Free bridgework, upper or lower (not both) for each child of yours I may kill and stuff. But only if it's chained and disadvantaged by drugs or head wounds before I get to it.
Bless Jesus.

People do not get outraged over those who kill and utilize every part of the animal. We get outraged over killing animals solely for its tusk or one other part to make some cockamamie concoction or solely for "sport."
Outside of vegans/vegetarians, most people make a distinction between killing for FOOD and just killing for trophies.

Also, it feels like you can do something about this issue, but you can't do anything about humans shooting each other. You can't control crazy, paranoid, over-armed, angry people, and you can't get the NRA out of Congress' pocket. And if someone shoots up a theater, they're usually dead or apprehended.
But people who hurt animals usually get away with no legal repercussions, so social media is useful to dole out some kind of punishment. Just my two cents on that.
by Anonymous | reply 319 | July 30, 2015 7:00 PM |
R314, you're saying that over 300,000 black people are killed every year? I'm not sure if you mean they were killed violently but according to CDC there are around 16,000 homicides a year in the US and about 8,000 of them were black people getting killed. Also according to CDC overall about 2,6M people died in 2013 and 302K of them were black and 2,2M were white.

Why does it have to be an either or situation with the Black Lives Matter protesters? I am as outraged by systemic police brutality , something I have witnessed many times in New York, as I am about the murder of a lion who was just minding his own business and doing what lions do. Add Aisha Tyler to the list of finger waggers who just HAD to remind us that it's as important to be outraged by the senseless killing of humans as it is by the death of Cecil. Just shut up you silly bitch. I can't think of a better way to alienate people who agree with you than to assume that they don't. And then lecture them about it. She's not even funny. Give me a Mia Farrow any day. She did what many of us wanted to do. And makes no apologies for it. And ruining his dental practice is certainly more hurtful than all the name-calling and revenge fantasies. No matter how much better it makes us feel to think of him suffering in the same way as Cecil. All lives matter.

Yes of course it's abhorrent that this guy spent so much money to go to Africa to kill this magnificent animal. But I wonder how many of the people who are joining the great social media lynch mob are eating chicken sandwiches or steaks as they do so? Zimbabwe is asking for extradition.
Apparently even after killing the lion and knowing it was collared he asked to go shoot an elephant.
"We then went back to my place near Hwange. The client asked if we would find him an elephant larger than 63 pounds (the weight of one tusk) which is a very large elephant, but I told him I would not be able to find one so big, so the client left the next day and went to Bulawayo for the night and then flew out midday the following day."

It's near on impossible to live a life without affecting animals. Even if you become a vegan you still buy products that are tested on animals before they are being used buy you. Shoes, wool production, expanding human population. Everything affects animals. The killing of Cecil (and other sports killings) though was completely unnecessary. To an extent, I get why people are saying, hey, black lives matter as much as the lives of lions, but the problem is that black lives (ALL of our lives) have been politicized. Because of that, things get complicated.
Media types and politicians rarely politicize animals, so everyone can join together and agree that killing lions is wrong. Some NRA people will disagree but otherwise, you've got a solid front... which you won't get when these issues involve people because, again, politics.

Even if the issue doesn't end trophy hunting, this guy's career, if nothing else, is toast in the foreseeable future. Unfortunately, he's taking down the well-being of his kids and his employees. I'd include his wife, but since she allegedly has a customs business and is married to the asshole, I'm going to assume she's complicit with his hunting and can go down with him.
I'm sure if he sells one of his homes and/or lives off the money he's previously allotted to hunting, he'll be financially solvent for awhile, but the impact of his actions will hit home shortly, if it hasn't already. Sucks to be him. . .and it should.

R414 by your logic anybody who commits a crime should not be shamed and humiliated because it impacts on those working for him.
I weep for Cosby's wife and his personal assistants and stylists. We should be ashamed of ourselves shaming him that their services might be severely cut back.

R416 leads a lion centered existence. He feels much worse about this than when children are abducted, raped and murdered, a not-uncommon occurrence in the USA. Children schmildren, they weren't in the Lion King.

R422 believes it's very important to shame and destroy the life of a person who has not been convicted of any crime, and he also feels it's really totally appropriate to equate allegations of breaking hunting rules with allegations of mass rape.

Believe me I am beyond happy that he didn't get the chance to kill an elephant, but an animal expert on one of the news shows tonight(not Jim Hanna but someone like him) said that if he HAD shot an elephant in addition to Cecil his imprisonment would be a done deal.

What is the chance a fair number of politicians and other prominent people are also shitting bricks because they have participated in a big game safari? Not just American, either. For example there is an Australian called Glen Mcgrath who recently tweeted a picture of himself beside a beautiful, but dead, large mammal.

Male lions routinely kill the cubs of any lionesses in the vicinity so that the females will become receptive to mating once again. They aren't exactly noble creatures.
I could never personally kill an animal like this but still find it kind hilarious how worked up and crazy some people become over hunting. It's not as though the animals suffer slow, agonizing deaths. Get a fucking grip you loons.
by Anonymous | reply 431 | August 1, 2015 2:48 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 432 | August 1, 2015 2:58 PM |
I meant that in general, hunting is NOTHING compared to the cruelty/indifference of nature. Do people think that older animals just go peacefully to sleep when it's their time to go? Please. Also: battery hens suffer a hell of a lot more than Cecil ever did, but I'm sure that 95% of the people crying over him have no problem buying a cheap carton of eggs, or products containing them (which is the same thing).

[quote][R422] believes it's very important to shame and destroy the life of a person who has not been convicted of any crime, and he also feels it's really totally appropriate to equate allegations of breaking hunting rules with allegations of mass rape.
It's not a question of allegations. The hunter has admitted he did kill Cecil. This is moral outrage that one can feel towards a person that has done wrong. You don't need justice system for that. But you knew that already of course. If you don't feel any kind of moral outrage for someone killing an old lion just for kicks and for sport then you might ask yourself are you capable of feeling empathy at all.
by Anonymous | reply 434 | August 1, 2015 3:30 PM |

R433 you are just as dim. Are you so stupid to think we don't know all this? We're talking about a man who creams over his sadistic sport and then boasts about it.
He might as well have jerked off over the corpse of this lion as well as all the others that we know of.
Nature is cold and cruel! Lions are mean and selfish! Oh the horror that we never knew any of this before!

Now there's a report out that Jericho isn't dead. The Research Unit says he's alive and well, just went on a walkabout to fuck a lioness or two. So far he is protecting Cecil's cubs from other males who would take over the pride. If Jericho intended to kill his little nieces and nephews, he would have already done it. So he appears to be a good uncle.
Maybe he will wind up as another DL "my nephew" troll..

NPR has the real story. Jericho and Cecil aren't brothers, they're mates who share the same female (lioness). Lions frequently form their own allies and that's the case for Cecil and Jericho. Jericho was protecting the cubs because the cubs could very well be his.
In the meantime the researcher over in Zimbabwe said he thinks Jericho is still alive but it's nighttime over there. They'll have to wait till morning to verify if Jericho is ok.
Time in Zimbabwe now: 1:00 AM so no one on here should try to contact him.
by Anonymous | reply 451 | August 1, 2015 11:01 PM |
Re: Jericho, a wildlife expert who studies cats suggested that Jericho's motives for protecting Cecil's offspring just might be a little self serving as well as benevolent. Apparently, just like with domestic kitties, a litter of lion cubs can have more than one father, and he thinks that some of the cubs may be of Jericho's bloodline. Whatever the reason, I do hope that he is able to keep the little critters alive.

Giraffes aren't defenceless or anything. Their kicks and head swings can do a lot of damage to predators - though this isn't much good against a bitch with a rifle several hundred yards away. They aren't normally aggressive and are beautiful creatures as they move around in that eerie way.

So R447, if someone decided to start a dog farm and ship the meat to overseas markets, you'd have no problem with it since the dogs would be used for food? Somehow I doubt it.
And if a lion's demise had been instantaneous via a shot through the heart, and his flesh had been distributed to poor Zimbabweans for food (many more than a chicken would supply, I might add), would that change your view on the acceptability of his death at all? Again, I doubt it.

I believe that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is investigating the murdering dentist for possible violations of federal law. They have their own criminal investigators who should be aware that he is hiding in Florida, and if they don't already know would be happy to have the information. Any extradition decisions would be made by the Justice Department and the State Department. The transfer of this piece of shit from the U.S. to Zimbabwe would be handled by the United States Marshal Service.

[quote]I think the African megafauna should be protected too, at least animals like lions or other vulnerable species.
But the African countries can really use the money for further conservation efforts (whether it goes there or not is a different story).
If a license to kill an adult lion generates income to protect a dozen more, then they do the math and issue the license. Especially as lions in the wild have extremely short life expectancies -- Cecil was already on the outward edge of wild lion lifespan.

Think I mentioned that already R479, but the fact is they DO spend money on wildlife, so claiming all their money all goes into their pockets is simply untrue. Remember this lion was a favorite in the area and Zimbabwean Rangers and park workers loved him. Their existence puts the lie to the notion that no money goes into preservation.
It benefits the government to preserve wildlife because it brings in tourist dollars.

Mr. Palmer is in violation of the LACEY ACT here in the U.S.--transport of illegally poached wildlife products, as well and in Violation of the Parks and Wildlife Act. He was not allowed to kill a lion--as the Landowner upon whose land he shot Cecil was not holding a Permit to kill a lion--so that's worthy of Extradition with up to a 10 year Penalty--if Convicted! Any possible Penalty carrying a weight of over a year is worthy of Extradition!!!!!
