Why??

by Anonymousreply 138December 28, 2018 4:33 PM

Why? Because the majority of people in this country observe Christian holidays.

by Anonymousreply 1April 5, 2015 1:02 PM

WHO?

by Anonymousreply 2April 5, 2015 1:04 PM

and your point is? are you a heathen or a member of the religion of peace?

by Anonymousreply 3April 5, 2015 1:04 PM

You may be mad, you're also semi-literate. Traitor Joe's? Radio Shake?

by Anonymousreply 4April 5, 2015 1:06 PM

What gay would want to go to Chick-Fil-A?

by Anonymousreply 5April 5, 2015 1:07 PM

WHO??????? (again)

I'm sure you're a college grad, right OP?

by Anonymousreply 6April 5, 2015 1:08 PM

Trader Joe's is open but will have special hours and close at 5 p.m.

by Anonymousreply 7April 5, 2015 1:10 PM

Circuit City has been closed for about ten years.

by Anonymousreply 8April 5, 2015 1:10 PM

Move to an atheist nation OP, so you don't need to worry about getting any religious holidays off.

by Anonymousreply 9April 5, 2015 1:12 PM

Taco Bell is open as well...

Did you make up this list OP?

by Anonymousreply 10April 5, 2015 1:12 PM

Stores are people, too!

by Anonymousreply 11April 5, 2015 1:13 PM

OP either you made up this list, or it is your small religious town. Much of it is wrong.

by Anonymousreply 12April 5, 2015 1:15 PM

Traitor Joe's.

Oh dear.

by Anonymousreply 13April 5, 2015 1:16 PM

"Toy's R Us"

Oh, OP. You're a mess, honey.

by Anonymousreply 14April 5, 2015 1:20 PM

Stores THAT are closed today.

by Anonymousreply 15April 5, 2015 1:21 PM

OP, a thread for you to consider:

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 16April 5, 2015 1:21 PM

Not to indulge the troll, but just want to point out that businesses that observe nominally religious holidays aren't necessarily only "sending a message." They are also granting their employees a day free of the usual employment obligations (with or without compensation, which is a different topic).

by Anonymousreply 17April 5, 2015 1:22 PM

The sad thing is that the people who work at these stores probably need the money they'd make today more than an Easter off with their families.

by Anonymousreply 18April 5, 2015 1:23 PM

I doubt Subways are close since a lot Indians and middle easterns now own a lot of their stores.Subway is slowly becoming 7-11.

by Anonymousreply 19April 5, 2015 1:28 PM

What a racist dick. Who cares what race owns a store?

by Anonymousreply 20April 5, 2015 1:30 PM

Corporations are people (so who is correct)

by Anonymousreply 21April 5, 2015 1:31 PM

Chick-Fil-A?

It's sad that this place is closed on Easter SUNDAY!!!!!! Our gay fraternity usually goes there for dinner every SUNDAY.

by Anonymousreply 22April 5, 2015 1:42 PM

R19, serious question: Why are most of you racist morons barely literate? I mean you know you write like absolute trash, right? I imagine you speak in the same manner.

Understand that you're no prize to have in this country as you complain about people who work their asses off every single day. People who are more productive than the people who hatefully complain about them.

by Anonymousreply 23April 5, 2015 1:43 PM

Sonic's? What the hell?

by Anonymousreply 30April 5, 2015 2:06 PM

Chick-Fil-A has never opened on Sundays.

by Anonymousreply 33April 5, 2015 2:10 PM

Many years ago, when I still smoked, I ran out of cigarettes on Easter Sunday and went to 711 and it was closed. I was shocked. Every 711 I'd ever been in was owned and staffed by South Asians. But I guess corporate gave the word. Close down.

by Anonymousreply 34April 5, 2015 2:16 PM

Ah, workers need some time off...okay?

by Anonymousreply 35April 5, 2015 2:18 PM

People deserve a day off.

by Anonymousreply 36April 5, 2015 2:19 PM

Hole foodsies

by Anonymousreply 37April 5, 2015 2:20 PM

I'm not a Jesus nut, but stores closed on a Sunday isn't a bad thing.

by Anonymousreply 38April 5, 2015 2:22 PM

Damn! And I was going to take my radio in to be shaken today.

by Anonymousreply 39April 5, 2015 2:26 PM

[quote]People deserve a day off.

Right, because all people work all shifts. Thank god for this break. They must be tired.

by Anonymousreply 40April 5, 2015 2:31 PM

How long ago was this, r34?

Back when I was a youngster in the '60s, cigarette machines were everywhere. A pack was 35¢.

You don't see cigarette machines or pay telephones any more.

Instead we have the anti-tobacco Gestapo and fucking "smart" phones.

Now instead of paying tobacco taxes we have Americans yakking and texting and killing themselves and each other with their automobiles.

Progress? I think not.

by Anonymousreply 41April 5, 2015 2:37 PM

r28 = a stupid failure

by Anonymousreply 42April 5, 2015 2:38 PM

[quote]Right, because all people work all shifts. Thank god for this break. They must be tired.

I know that it may be hard to grasp for you, being a single obese man who cut off his family long ago, but for normal people, it's nice to have a day now and then when they can all be together and not have to have several family members who have to work at any given time. I don't particularly care if the day commemorates Jesus or Sean Penn or Matt Damon's ass. Is it really such an incredible hardship to have ONE DAY when you can't buy useless stuff?

by Anonymousreply 43April 5, 2015 2:41 PM

Nordstrom is closed on Gregorian Calendar Easter Sunday, April 5. 2015.

However, Nordstrom is open on Julian Calendar Orthodox Easter Sunday, April 12, 2015.

I'm offended.

by Anonymousreply 44April 5, 2015 2:54 PM

Greece is bankrupt. As if they can buy more than a washcloth anyway at this point.

by Anonymousreply 45April 5, 2015 2:57 PM

Macy's is closed too but so what? My Trader Joes is open but I think it just started opening on Easter a couple of years ago.

by Anonymousreply 46April 5, 2015 3:20 PM

[quote] How long ago was this, [R34]?

1980s.

My mother said, "Why OF COURSE 711 is closed. It's EASTER." Like I was some kind of space alien. How was I supposed to know that a store owned and operated by non-Christians would be closed? I'd never even seen a closed 711 before.

Well, they're open 365 days a year now. But I had to drive all over to find a gas station which sold my brand back then.

by Anonymousreply 47April 5, 2015 3:23 PM

R47, where did you live? In California in the '70s and '80s I still smoked and remember going into 7-11s on major holidays like Christmas and Easter to get cigarettes and other things because they were the on,y thing open on those days.

by Anonymousreply 48April 5, 2015 3:29 PM

Whole foods is not closed

by Anonymousreply 49April 5, 2015 3:37 PM

Motel lobbies ALWAYS had cigra-butt machines 30 years ago.

Straights, gays and men who just want to get away from their families: the Korean Spa is naked and open.

by Anonymousreply 52April 5, 2015 4:08 PM

Where's the Korean Spa?

by Anonymousreply 53April 5, 2015 4:12 PM

They're always selling me stuff at Traitor Joe's and then refusing to give me my items after I pay for them, the bastards.

by Anonymousreply 54April 5, 2015 4:15 PM

Not much open in Europe or Canada today either. You could try Damascus though.

by Anonymousreply 58April 5, 2015 5:11 PM

R41 should really just shut the fuck up. No one cares.

by Anonymousreply 59April 5, 2015 7:15 PM

Some liquor stores are open in Quebec, if they are not located in a mall that is closed.

by Anonymousreply 60April 5, 2015 7:24 PM

If this thread is any guide, missing the day's visit to K-Mart and Sizzler will crush the the soul of the urban gay sophisticate.

by Anonymousreply 61April 5, 2015 7:33 PM

Horton hears a Who.

Oh, and R26, R27 and R49, it's "Who-le Foods".

by Anonymousreply 62April 5, 2015 7:40 PM

Because we have to celebrate the resurrection of the Easter Bunny and the fact that all that candy will be half off the next day for us fat Mericans.

by Anonymousreply 67April 5, 2015 9:11 PM

I shopped at Whole Foods today. It was about as crowded as any other day.

by Anonymousreply 68April 5, 2015 9:19 PM

Walmart is not closed today. Walmart is open.

by Anonymousreply 69April 5, 2015 9:22 PM

by Anonymousreply 70April 5, 2015 9:22 PM

People should legally get time off. In fact much more than they currently do. That should be a legal right. But why does it have to be specific days? Let's spread it around a bit more.

by Anonymousreply 71April 5, 2015 9:35 PM

[quote]Stores who are closed today

Stores THAT are closed today.

by Anonymousreply 72April 5, 2015 9:57 PM

Circuit City??

OP 2009 called. They want their list back. Circuit City has been out of business for 5 years.

by Anonymousreply 73April 5, 2015 9:59 PM

r72, see r21.

by Anonymousreply 74April 5, 2015 10:01 PM

The day these stores should be closed is Good Friday. Any committed Christian who works, or shops, on that day should be stoned.

by Anonymousreply 75April 5, 2015 10:02 PM

24 Hour Fitness is never closed. Members have a key card they can use to access at all times, holidays included. Circuit City hasn't existed since 2009 or so and the local McDonald's is open.

Why, indeed, OP.

by Anonymousreply 76April 5, 2015 10:11 PM

And the use of the word "who" -- does the OP believe corporations are people, too?

by Anonymousreply 77April 5, 2015 10:18 PM

Does anyone know whether Walmart is open today?

by Anonymousreply 78April 5, 2015 10:52 PM

It who is.

by Anonymousreply 79April 5, 2015 10:54 PM

R78, don't they have a storelocator tool on their website so that you can check for yourself?

by Anonymousreply 80April 6, 2015 1:35 AM

I actually shopped at Trader Joe's today; they were open, but closed early (at 5.)

by Anonymousreply 83April 6, 2015 1:09 PM

by Anonymousreply 84April 6, 2015 1:21 PM

[quote] Not much open in Europe or Canada today either.

In the more tourist oriented areas of European cities, most everything is open on Easter Sunday and Easter Monday.

by Anonymousreply 85April 6, 2015 1:22 PM

Do Europeans make Easter baskets up for children? Or for adults?

Sorry, but nobody should be making up an Easter basket for an adult. It's infantilalizng. If you want to give a small chocolate bunny to someone, ok. But Easter baskets, like footie pajamas and pigtails, are for children.

by Anonymousreply 86April 6, 2015 1:51 PM

by Anonymousreply 95December 25, 2016 6:47 PM
