Should Bowling be added to the winter Olympics?

After all they have curling which Canada DOMINATES at the expense of the US. Canada is so far ahead of the US, in terms of curling, USA cannot touch Canada in that sport.

Time for the US get fight back, and maybe they should lobby the IOC to add bowling as an Olympic winter sport.

Bowling is so dominate in the mid-west states, and would be a great ratings grabber.

So do you agree?

Are you posting from 1975?

Bowling has been in decline for more than a decade now.

by Anonymousreply 1February 17, 2014 12:50 AM

Bowling would be in the Summer Olympics if it is decided to include it in 2016. It was an exhibition sport with 20 countries participating in the 1988 Seoul Olympics and was dominated by East Asians and Finland.

by Anonymousreply 2February 17, 2014 1:00 AM

R2 why would it be in the summer games?

There are more games in the Summer Olympics than winter.

I say it is a PERFECT fit for Winter games sport for the Olympics.

R1 is NOT from the mid-west.

by Anonymousreply 3February 17, 2014 1:19 PM

Maybe they can have ICE BOWLING!!!

by Anonymousreply 4February 17, 2014 1:21 PM

R3, it's not a winter sport. I'm not really sure why you think it is, since neither ice nor snow are involved.

Indoor sport does not equal winter sport. If it did, we'd be watching Olympic basketball from Sochi right now.

by Anonymousreply 5February 17, 2014 1:36 PM

a sport has to involve ice or snow to be deemed a winter sport?

by Anonymousreply 6February 17, 2014 1:42 PM

Oh boy! Now you're catching on!

by Anonymousreply 7February 17, 2014 1:50 PM

Maybe they could include exotic ice dancing?

by Anonymousreply 8February 17, 2014 1:51 PM

Before miniature golf? Mon dieu!

by Anonymousreply 9February 17, 2014 1:56 PM

You can almost see the steam rising from R6's cranium as he worked out the logic of that post.

by Anonymousreply 10February 17, 2014 3:12 PM

[quote]Maybe they could include exotic ice dancing?

Exotic ice is too expensive. Maybe they could include erotic dancing on ice.

by Anonymousreply 11February 17, 2014 3:18 PM

The flyover states would tune it, that's for sure.

by Anonymousreply 12February 17, 2014 3:19 PM

Curling is essentially bowling on ice.

by Anonymousreply 13February 17, 2014 3:21 PM

Pole dancing. Women and men.

by Anonymousreply 14February 17, 2014 3:21 PM

That's kind of what curling is, poor man's ice bowling without the expense and inconvenience of pins.

by Anonymousreply 15February 17, 2014 3:21 PM

I'm backing Norway for curling. Their curling uniforms are fantastic!

by Anonymousreply 16February 17, 2014 3:34 PM

R16 Canada DOMINATES Curling

We are the defending Gold medalists.

by Anonymousreply 17February 17, 2014 3:37 PM

[quote]The flyover states would tune it, that's for sure.

Yes, because there was never a bowling alley in Torrance or Brooklyn. No one who lives in NY or LA ever goes to see low-brow action movies or wrestling matches either. They're all too busy sipping tea with Mrs. Drysdale at the art museum cafe.

by Anonymousreply 18February 17, 2014 3:43 PM

Bowling without pants. This flyover would soooooo tune in.

by Anonymousreply 19February 17, 2014 3:46 PM

Which is why Canada DOMINATES Curling. Instead of bowling alleys, Canadians in rural areas go to the rink to curl on cold winter days.

Whereas in Red states they go bowling.

If Bowling was a winter sport, the US would DOMINATE that game.

by Anonymousreply 20February 17, 2014 3:48 PM

Ice prancing!

by Anonymousreply 21February 17, 2014 3:48 PM

The IOC is looking at a proposal of moving some summer sports to the Winter Games

Judo, badminton and wrestling are being considered.

by Anonymousreply 22March 28, 2014 12:42 AM

Outdoor bowling is perfect for the winter Olympics, OP. You should start a Facebook page to get it going.

by Anonymousreply 23March 28, 2014 1:32 AM

Dominate?

And why did the OP capitalize "bowling"?

Is it that the DL is now populated by sixth graders, or by adults with sixth-grade educations?

by Anonymousreply 24March 28, 2014 2:04 AM

They are, R24, products of New York public schools.

by Anonymousreply 25March 28, 2014 2:48 AM

No bowling, however let's get back to basics with nude Greco-Roman Wrestling.

by Anonymousreply 26March 28, 2014 3:57 AM

[quote]let's get back to basics with nude Greco-Roman Wrestling.

Outdoors in the snow?

by Anonymousreply 27March 28, 2014 4:03 AM

r27 Works for me.

by Anonymousreply 28March 28, 2014 9:29 AM

Olympic Blowing????? Where do I go to get on the team?

by Anonymousreply 29March 28, 2014 11:52 AM

Bowling alleys have slowly been disappearing for years now, thanks in part to the decline of league bowling.

Clearly this concept some of you have about "flyover land" is 30 years out of date.

by Anonymousreply 30March 28, 2014 5:20 PM

R30, even in the 1980s bowling was dying, so more like 50 to 60 years out of date.

I live in the midwest and bowling is virtually nothing here -- something that people might do every few years for a drunken nostalgia-themed party (and even that isn't particularly common).

Certainly no one would be interested in it as a spectator sport. That would just be a joke.

by Anonymousreply 31March 28, 2014 5:38 PM

You do realize the Olympics is an International event/

by Anonymousreply 32March 28, 2014 7:34 PM

Gosh, no. I didn't realize that.

by Anonymousreply 33March 28, 2014 7:51 PM

[quote]Bowling alleys have slowly been disappearing for years now, thanks in part to the decline of league bowling.

True! That's why we need Bowling at the winter Olympics. It will bring back the sport.

by Anonymousreply 34March 28, 2014 8:41 PM

If ice skating can be declared a sport, so can bowling.

by Anonymousreply 35March 29, 2014 1:41 AM

exactly

by Anonymousreply 36April 8, 2015 1:38 PM

Since bowling is nowhere to be seen at these, games. It is even more evident it should be added to the Winter Sports.

by Anonymousreply 37August 12, 2016 3:44 AM

Isn't curling more like shuffleboard?

by Anonymousreply 38August 12, 2016 5:35 AM

So after this Olympics bowling should be added, don't you agree?

by Anonymousreply 39February 25, 2018 6:40 PM

They could have dwarf bowling -- sure to go over well!

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 40February 25, 2018 6:43 PM

No. But I'd like to see synchronized twerking on ice.

by Anonymousreply 41February 25, 2018 6:48 PM

It should be added to the Winter Olympics as it is mostly played during the winter months in the mid-west as competitive sport
