People Eat Tons of Carbs to Feel Good When Depressed

Can't you just take a bunch of antidepressants to get that Serotonin boost?

by Anonymousreply 1611/03/2013

I drink

by Anonymousreply 111/02/2013

so do I

taking tons of serotonin re-uptake inhibitors would make it worse, OP

by Anonymousreply 211/02/2013

Carbs are a lot cheaper OP.

Chocolate works well.

by Anonymousreply 511/03/2013

Dear, dear OP...

Knstead of blindly putting down people you just build some self esteem to counter your inferiority complex?

by Anonymousreply 611/03/2013

I'm the opposite. I stop eating when I'm depressed.

by Anonymousreply 711/03/2013

Jesus, I wish I stopped eating when I'm depressed. That would be incredible!

by Anonymousreply 811/03/2013

Is that really true? I'm a super crazy healthy eater, and eat practically no carbs and very little gluten, yet i often make a big bowl of pasta when I'm not in a good mood. I didn't realize there was any scientific basis for this; I always thought of it as just treating myself to something I like but deny myself because it's not healthy.

You don't need a prescription for potato chips.

by Anonymousreply 1011/03/2013

What R10 said. Anti depressives don't work instantly, sometimes they take weeks to kick in.

by Anonymousreply 1111/03/2013

I heard Michael Hutchence did this in the last years of his life (taking ten times recommended dosage) when down, along with cocaine, ecstasy and alcohol.

by Anonymousreply 1211/03/2013

Now I'm depressed I don't have R7's self-control. I'll now be downing a bag of mini rolos and string cheese.

by Anonymousreply 1311/03/2013

Having a full tummy makes you feel better when you're sad.

by Anonymousreply 1411/03/2013

r6, I thought the OP was just looking for an answer, not putting people down.

by Anonymousreply 1511/03/2013

Carbs are cheaper and don't require a script.
