Does Barbra have any old friends?
We know she dumped Barry Dennen and Bob Schulenberg, the men who created her image. I don't get the impression she and Elliott Gould are close anymore. And God knows she and Lainie Kazan don't get together to talk about the FUNNY GIRL days.
Does she have anyone who she can get together and reminisce about her New York years with, or has she completely cut off that part of her life?

Apparently Hanoi Jane hangs out at Barbra's and Shirley Maclaine . Liz Taylor used to visit Barbra often. One time someone knocked on Barbra's front door and Barbra was in the other room. Liz opened the front door and acting like Barbra's maid. They guy was stunned because he knew it was LIZ Taylor, of course. He told her he was there to see Barbra to go over some songs the were working on. Liz screamed, hey Mrs. Streisand! its that music guy who wants to see yah!

They even formed a production company together.

I can't stand Donna Karan. She seems like a pain in the ass.

Jane Fonda said on her blog that they listen to music together while sitting on Barbra's bathroom floor.
Shirley MacLaine said that she, Liz Taylor and Barbra used to have lunch together often at Liz's house and gossip about everybody in Hollywood.
Barbra's new bff is Adele. Adele stays at Barbra's house in Malibu.
|by Anonymous||reply 7||10/31/2013|
I don't know if she's still besties with Donna K, but they were close for years. Donna seems to have fallen off a New Age cliff, a bit. Barbra seems too sensible for all that hokum.
Two incredibly successful and ambitious women so famously High Maintenance should either be best friends. Or enemies for life.

Actually the story is that Barbara pretended to be her own maid and asked the music guy (Bond composer David Arnold) to come back the next day. I'm guessing Barbara likes to do her own housework...

apparently friends with Cher, so much so that last year, Barbra and Jim went to Cher's house in Malibu so that they could all travel together to some event in Beverly Hills. Upon entering, Barbra marches straight up to Cher and announces, "I'm so sorry about Chaz," which pissed Cher off. As she told friends later, "Fucking Barbra!"

A friend of mine did a telephone interview with her a couple of years ago, and played the tape for me. She was very low-key, soft-spoken, and -- dare I say it -- kind of mellow. She kept apologizing for interrupting the conversation to tend to her dog. She dotes on that dog.
Aren't she and Brenda Vaccaro buds ?

Jane Fonda and Barbra Streisand sit on the floor of her bathroom and listen to music? Sounds like a Depends commercial.
|by Anonymous||reply 31||10/31/2013|
She and Cis have been close friends for more than 50 years.
Barbra tends to be close to all her X's. She has had the same assistant (Renata) for decades.
Fact is, Streisand is a very sane, stable, very smart, very successful and if you can call someone as talented and rich this; normal aging woman. Lots of people try to make her out as some kind of a diva monster when she is mostly a very shy, private person; albeit extremely driven to succeed whether in show business or philanthropic endeavors.
I have found that some people are very intimidated by people with great drive and energy. Fact is, these characteristics are essential to success, at almost anything.
I knew Bob Schulemberg sp? some years ago in NYC. He would always say Barbra was shy, smart and the hardest working person he knew.

Do you think she was hurt after hearing on the James Franco roast that someone said about her and Seth Rogen, "who wants to see two ugly jews driving around in a car?" She may be nice to you if you are on the payroll.

R33, my guess is that she was not hurt by the remarks of an anti semite- rather felt sorry for them. Ditto Rogan.

It was probably a Jewish comic who said that during Franco's roast. It's not exactly high brow theatre.

When it comes to any celebrity, I wonder why they think that they can only be friends with other celebrities.
Such an insular world.
Such paranoia, actually. As if some middle-class person they meet regularly somewhere could never be part of their circle of friends.
As talented as she is, I would never fawn over Streisand or any other celebrity.
My cousin, who has worked for many celebrities, has always stated she was given the impression by said celebrities that a friendship with anyone of a lower social class would involve an expectation of a gift of money.
Celebrities are such narcissists.
There, I said it.

Barbra is in this month's Glamour magazine. She doesn't look a day over 40. What do you think of her new hairstyle?

Does Babs get along with Josh and his kids and Brolin's other son? Do they spend any time together, holidays, etc.

This film was made when Hollywood did not hire colored black Negro actors.

Roslyn Kind sang with Barbra on last year's 40 city tour. She is pretty, young, blonde, terrific voice. It is on Youtube.

|by Anonymous||reply 88||11/01/2013|
r78 how can you be a Streisand expert and not remember the colored lady in "For Pete's Sake?"
Hello it's the colored lady?

|by Anonymous||reply 89||11/01/2013|
Sheldon Streisand was a partner in an advertising agency called Streisand, Zuch & Freedman in the 1960s. If he managed her money before that it would have been the 1950s when she had $2 to her name.
|by Anonymous||reply 91||11/02/2013|

I was not "dumped" by Barbra. We have been in touch since 1960! The fact is, when Elliott came into her life, his career was much slower to start! I didn't want Elliott to feel that I had an influence on her that he didn't have so it was I who decided to be less involved with her. I had my own career to deal with and it was not in show business! However, I sat with Jon Peters and Barbra at the small party given after the premiere of "Funny Lady"; she invited me to a pre-screening of "Prince of Tides" after which we had a two hour phone conversation; we got together while she was performing in Las Vegas and once we even wandered through an Antiques Show at the Hollywood Palladium! And we also have a lot of mutual friends! I hate to hear bad things said about Barbra and don't understand how people delight in denigrating her. She's a very private person and, like me, is very comfortable spending time alone.
|by Anonymous||reply 123||03/04/2015|
Barbra's too insecure to have close friends, and she doesn't have great interpersonal skills. I remember a story about how a co-star bought Barbra an expensive gift at the end of the filming of a movie - it was a valuable antique collectable that he had given a lot of thought to and had gone to a lot of trouble to find, because it was something he knew Barbra valued. Barbra seemed genuinely thrilled with his gift. And in return, Barbra gave the co-star an autographed photo of herself.
Also there's the story of the man who helped Barbra get started in show business (I forget his name). Barbra dumped him as a manager/agent when she became more successful. One day he was standing on a street corner in NYC when a limo Barbra was riding in pulled up to the intersection. They made eye contact and the man felt ill-at-ease, wondering if Barbra would acknowledge him. Barbra, who was holding her dog in the back of the limo, simply lifted the dog's paw and waved the paw at the man before the limo drove on.
I don't think Barbra intends to be cold or mean-spirited. She's had a lot of rejection and misery in her life - that's just who she is.

Babs CAN be friendly. Many years ago I lived in El Lay during the late 70's. I worked for an insurance company on Wilshire Blvd. I walked around the corner on my lunch hour to a bakery called the Butterfly. It seems that her sister Roslyn had worked there as well when she moved from NYC. Anyway, I was all alone in the bakery sitting at a table drinking my coffee and eating a sticky cinnamon bun when Babs and her bodyguards walked in. I was in shock. You see I was brought up in the same area of Flatbush in Brooklyn where she was born and raised as well. She also attended Erasmus Hall HS where my former sister-in-law attended and they were in the same homeroom but Babs took extra courses and graduated in '59 vs. '60 when my ex sister-in-law finished. Anyway, I looked up at her, smiled and asked "when were you last back in the neighborhood?" She was caught off guard and I explained who I was, what street I grew up on (Linden Blvd.) and who my ex sister-in-law was, who she remembered. She actually laughed and we talked about the same places, the Chinese restaurant, the Kings Theater (she worked at both places) and Dubrow's cafeteria. It must have brought back some bittersweet memories but all in all she seemed comfortable to talk to me. She had totally dropped her well known guard and did not blow me off as a wacko. She got her order, smiled, said goodbye and left with her armed security guards. I NEVER asked for her autograph and it was an unforgettable experience to say the least.

Friendship is a trade-off for success in the entertainment industry. No huge celeb has friends. Among other celebs there is too much competition and jealousy. They also seem to be "above" having friends outside of showbiz.

I think Abbe must have been done with Xavier Cugat by then. This would have been around 1965, I guess.

We talk on the phone all the time and she occasionally drops by for coffee.

Streisand is friendly with Liza, but I don't think they are close friends.
Madeline Kahn tried to be friends with Barbra during the making of WHAT'S UP DOC? but Barbra wasn't interested.
It is often said that Barbra is still close to Jon Peters but I can't see it. She has to know he used her and her connections to break into Hollywood. But she got laid a lot so maybe it evens out for her.
One of the most depressing things I've ever seen was Barbra interviewed in a parking lot. She said "I love Beyonce!"

She certainly doesn't have any friends in show biz who will green light her fantasy remake of a Gypsy. After The Guilt Trip flopped, no one wants to deal with her giant belly and ego.

Do you think she's friends with any of the people that work in her mall in the basement?

[quote]And in return, Barbra gave the co-star an autographed photo of herself.

What's the big deal - she gave him a gift. It was a good picture of me...I mean, her. And she autographed it for him - he probably sold it and made money.
You try to be nice to some people...Sheesh!

Barbra doesn't have friends. Everyone else in the world fits into two camps for her: lackeys and enemies.
