Dexadrine for depression

I was just prescribed dextramphetamine for refractory depression.

Anybody have any experience with this? Does it work? Will I ever sleep again? Will I have the cleanest house on the block? Will I lose 20 pounds? Will I have a road rage incident? Will I suddenly feel like life is worth living?

Will you ever run out of question marks?

Are you going to climb Mount Everest?

Is it also a floor cleaner? A dessert topping?

Isn't dexadrine from the 1950s? I'm surprised an MD gave you that.

It's basically speed and is rarely used in depression. Some psychopharmacologists will try Adderall in treatment-resistant depression, but that too is unusual.

I hope you're seeing a top specialist because the risks versus benefit are significant here.

Good luck!

"Good luck," indeed. What an irresponsible prescriber you have. He should lose his license.

If you have palpitations don't wait it out. Call your doctor immediately!

Can I have your MD's number?

by Anonymousreply 1010/30/2013

Whut ish yer doktorsh number?

It is helping, from what I can tell, but it may be too speedy. I have been going on 5 hours sleep, mostly it seems because I have stopped taking the stuff I usually have to take to sleep.

Doctor is a top specialist, and this is a neurotransmitter challenge test with small titrations. Also, not an addictive personality, though I'm starting to see why some people like it. I am much friendlier and happier than usual, but I kind of miss lethargy. At least I'll have a clean house by the time this test ends.

Are you sure, OP?

You misspelled both the generic and brand names. Dexedrine is dextroamphetamine.

In any case, amphetamines can be used safely if you take the medication exactly as directed and don't increase the dose. There are people with narcolepsy who take these drugs for years without ever increasing the dose.

If you're not sleeping well you may need a smaller dosage.
