Gay men's icons are often women - Cher, Liza, Judy... I can guess some of the reasons there aren't any male "Lesbian icons" but if there were, who would they be?
Who would be the male "Lesbian icons", if there were any?

includes both real and imagined lesbians:
Mary Martin, Jacky Susann, Claudette Colbert, Agnes Moorehead, Capucine, Wanda Sykes, Gertrude Stein, just about every famous female pornstar, 50% of all famous English actresses, Joan Crawford, Talullah Bankhead, Libby Holman, Ellen Degeneris, Rosie O'Donnell, Lea Delaria

CAPUCINE seemed to be one of the most sexy in the closet actresses.

Capucine and Suzy Kendall's kissing scene is very hot and beautiful. What a pity that in that film Kendall was just a spy and she had to kill Capucine, which she did later. They were so hot together. I would love to see more scenes with them.
PLEASEM FILMAKERS, MAKE LESBIAN MOVIES WITH FEMININE WOMEN AND WITH A GREAT PASSIONATE SCENARIO. I'M BORED WITH ALL THE CASUAL, LIGHT STUFF THAT THERE IS OUT THERE. DO IT WITH CLASS AND STYLE!

Female movie stars only appeal to gay men. Lesbian icons would be -- and are -- sports figures.

Whatever. Thought I read the thread title wrong because others were replying with lesbian names. Never follow the crowd.
Lesbians liking a man enough to make him a Lesbian Icon seems like an oxymoron. Lesbians barely tolerate men, often hating us. Gay men don't want to sleep with women but that doesn't stop us from loving them. Lesbians seem to be largely paranoid and hateful of men.

Only r4, r9, r15 and r16 got that OP was asking for a list of MEN who are icons for lesbians.

ITA @ R11. If any, they would be male sports figures.

Oh, BS. I know plenty of well-adjusted lesbians who like men just fine. It's not bra-burning 1978 anymore.

Lesbians idolize some of the same female icon that gay men do - Bette Davis, Katharine Hepburn, Barbra Streisand, etc. Not so much men, lack of interest.
|by Anonymous||reply 31||12/26/2014|
Lesbians don't hate men like you R17. You really have a complex if you confuse indifference with hate.

R46, Comma goes inside the quotation mark in the US. The US rules, in case you don't know.
The only exception is when that last little item enclosed in quotation marks is just a letter or a number, in which case the period or comma will go outside the closing quotation marks.
|by Anonymous||reply 48||12/26/2014|
Such a picayune grammar convention to get your knickers in a twist over, eh, R42 and R48? Especially on an informal message board on the internet.
|by Anonymous||reply 49||12/26/2014|
No, it's normal for AfterEllen. I don't even think real lesbians check that site. Not even its content is gay. It's gay-baiting, straight pandering, bisexual-lite, but not gay. And people shouldn't even expect anything different, since its purpose is to turn a profit, something that can't be done with a real lesbian site given the small audience pool.
If I'm not mistaken, even the people at AE admitted as such.
Always found the site bad and condescending though, even when sometimes checked on it some years ago. The only good thing that came out of that site were the L Word recaps. I always had a laugh reading them.

Lesbians don't have many male icons because men hate us and we are fully aware of it. The comparison with female icons for gay men cannot be held, it's a totally different dynamic. These women usually loved their gay male fans and would say so.
Can you name a man who openly ever declared his love for his lesbian fan base? We have David Bowie, certainly. But that's it.
Of course the men in this thread waste no breath before declaring that it's of course us lesbians hating on men, as usual. How low.
|by Anonymous||reply 52||12/26/2014|
Adam Lambert has a significant les fan base. The best fic writers in the fandom are all queer women. And the fan sites are pretty evenly divided between the straight ladies and the gay ones.

Grammar, spelling and punctuation are closly monitored here, and egregious errors are taken to task, usually with the remark “Oh, dear.” Not that there’s anything wrong with it. In fact just today I got called out for typing “piece-by-piece” instead of “piece by piece.” It’s actually refreshing, compared to the error-ridden posts of all the KeWeL GuyZ on other fora.
