I love this song! Thoughts? Favorite version? I love Dolly's but really like Reba's as well

by Anonymousreply 3305/31/2014

I love it when Dolly sings this song and plays along on her nails!

by Anonymousreply 110/19/2013

This is the version I wanted

by Anonymousreply 210/19/2013

Ya'll know this is the best version.

by Anonymousreply 310/19/2013

by Anonymousreply 410/19/2013

Olivia Newton John also did this song.

by Anonymousreply 510/19/2013

Here's Dolly's original 45 slowed down to 33. It's surprisingly awesome.

by Anonymousreply 610/19/2013

This is one of my favorite songs, and I'm not a country fan.

by Anonymousreply 710/19/2013

Who is this red-haired vamp Jolene anyways?

by Anonymousreply 810/19/2013

Fuck, R6. That is awesome.

by Anonymousreply 910/19/2013

Boy sings Jolene ~

by Anonymousreply 1010/19/2013

[8] Jolene was inspired by a red-headed maven of a bank teller who always flirted with Parton's husband. On a gay note: even though gay gingers should statistically be extremely hard to find, on sites like XTube they seem to be everywhere, in all shapes and sizes. I've heard that gingers (m/f) are paranormally gifted as well.

by Anonymousreply 1110/19/2013

Who would play Jolene? Alicia Witt? Lauren Ambrose?

by Anonymousreply 1210/19/2013

Strawberry Switchblade's 80's cover

by Anonymousreply 1310/19/2013

Sophie Ellis-Bextor's version from the soundtrack of the great Jonathan Harvey Britcom, "Beautiful People"

by Anonymousreply 1410/19/2013

I love gingers.

by Anonymousreply 1510/19/2013

Jolie, Jolie, Jolie, Jolie

I'm begging of you, please don't take my man

Jolie, Jolie, Jolie, Jolie

Please don't take him just because you can...

You're too much R16

by Anonymousreply 1905/31/2014

Mindy Smith did an excellent version and is really a fantastic singer/songwriter in her own right. Met her about 8 years ago when I was working for a music magazine and she truly was a doll. Dolly makes an appearance in Mindy's video of the song, linked.

NPR once did a good segment on this song. About how musicians from all genres consider it one of the best written songs ever and about the wide range of singers who have covered it.

Here's some hideous dance version.

by Anonymousreply 2105/31/2014

A not so hideous reggae light version.

by Anonymousreply 2205/31/2014

That is pretty awesome R22.

by Anonymousreply 2305/31/2014

Before(or after who knows) she became famous Norah Jones tried to be a country singer. Her she is putting us to sleep with her version. Although, honestly, it's pretty fucking good.

This will be my last get the idea of the NPR story. In closing The White Stripes do the biggest WTF version of the song.

by Anonymousreply 2405/31/2014

Dolly Parton wrote 'Jolene' and 'I Will Always Love You' on the same day.

by Anonymousreply 2505/31/2014

My friend Jolene is a cunt.

by Anonymousreply 2605/31/2014

R25 - That is remarkable.

by Anonymousreply 2705/31/2014

Three greatest American songwriters 1. Loretta Lynn

2. Dolly Parton

3. Tammy Wynette

by Anonymousreply 2805/31/2014

I LOVE The White Stripes version! Jack didn't change the gender, so fucking what, it was still a great version.

Ironically, Jack has a preference for redheads.

by Anonymousreply 2905/31/2014

Alison Krauss did a nice job (link below).

I liked the idea of the White Stripes doing the song, but the execution didn't really do it for me.

by Anonymousreply 3005/31/2014

Alison Krauss sure fixes up nice when she tries.

by Anonymousreply 3105/31/2014

I like Sandra Bernhard's version (start at 1:45.)

by Anonymousreply 3205/31/2014

I looooooove Olivia's version
