Why hasn't Meryl never done either a Sci-Fi or Western film?

I find that strange.

She has never done a Western, nor has she done Science Fiction.

I wonder why?

by Anonymousreply 5010/18/2013

How many stars from the past 30 years do you know who have done westerns? The genre has been dead for decades despite the occasional semi-revival (Silverado).

by Anonymousreply 110/16/2013

But she is, OP. She shot some western with Hilary Swank that is supposed to be released next year I think.

by Anonymousreply 210/16/2013

[quote] How many stars from the past 30 years do you know who have done westerns?

Clint Eastwood, Kevin Costner, Tommy Lee Jones, Anette Bening, Reese Witherspoon, Sissy Spacek, Angelica Huston..

Shall I continue?

by Anonymousreply 310/16/2013

Westerns suck

by Anonymousreply 410/16/2013

"Why hasn't Meryl never done" oh deary me.

by Anonymousreply 510/16/2013

Meryl's western, "The Homesman," will be released in 2014.

by Anonymousreply 610/16/2013

OK then why hasn't Meryl ever done Science Fiction?

by Anonymousreply 710/16/2013

It looks like this is more of a cameo role, than a lead role. Cause her daughter is in the film.

So while she has done a Western, she has never done a leading role in a western.

Wonder why

by Anonymousreply 810/16/2013

As soon as filming on "Into the Woods" wraps, she is doing a sci-fi film called "The Giver."

by Anonymousreply 910/16/2013

Okay then, why hasn't she ever done a porno?

by Anonymousreply 1010/16/2013

Perhaps they should do a remake of Destry Rides Again to help revive Meryl's career. It worked for Marlene.

by Anonymousreply 1110/16/2013

She doesn't have the chops to do Sci-Fi!

by Anonymousreply 1210/16/2013

[quote]Okay then, why hasn't she ever done a porno?

That was "Julie & Julia." Remember her line, "These damn things are hot as a stiff cock"?

Food porn.

by Anonymousreply 1310/16/2013

I really don't enjoy Sci-Fi, maybe she doesn't either?

by Anonymousreply 1410/16/2013

She was the voice in A.I. in the critical final sequence.

Check on sci-fi.

by Anonymousreply 1510/16/2013

This is truly one of the dumbest threads ever to appear on DL, as well as being one of the most grammatically warped questions ever asked a human! Close it and go back to sleep.

by Anonymousreply 1610/16/2013

She's too much of a card-carrying great actress. It would be condescending -way beneath her massive talent. Wasn't her bursting out laughing at that dirty joke in Silkwood the greatest performance ever by an actress?

by Anonymousreply 1710/16/2013

"August: Osage County" is a western.

by Anonymousreply 1810/16/2013

No doubt genres where her acting skills might finally be relevant.

by Anonymousreply 1910/16/2013

Sniff.

Chronicles of Riddick.

by Anonymousreply 2010/16/2013

Okay, then why has she never done a Fantasy epic?

Surely they could fit her into "Game of Thrones", those people can fit in about ten new major characters a year.

by Anonymousreply 2110/16/2013

Sci-fi roles just aren't that prestigious. I mean, maybe the cameos in Star Wars were fun but that's about it.

I can't think of a Sci-fi movie that's ever won Best Picture or an actor or actress who's taken the top Oscar prize for a Sci-fi role.

by Anonymousreply 2210/16/2013

[quote] Perhaps they should do a remake of Destry Rides Again to help revive Meryl's career. It worked for Marlene.

She can do the musical version, in the Dot Gray role!

by Anonymousreply 2310/16/2013

Why has she never done a snuff film?

by Anonymousreply 2410/16/2013

Leo DiCaprio has never done a comedy, has he?

by Anonymousreply 2510/16/2013

She has become an incredibly mannered, self-conscious actress. I can't watch her.

The last time I enjoyed a performance was "Doubt" where she played an unattractive, unlikeable nun.

When she tries rom-com or attempts to be sexy or charming, she fails. She's a character actress- not a Movie Star.

by Anonymousreply 2610/16/2013

Considering the work Industrial Light and Magic has to do to make her look somewhat human, I think every movie she's been in is Sci-Fi.

by Anonymousreply 2710/16/2013

The only action film she has done is "The River Wild".

by Anonymousreply 2810/16/2013

Why doesn't she do theater? Isn't that supposed to be the true test of really great acting? Her contemporaries like Glenn Close, Helen Mirren, and Jessica Lange have had great impacts on stage. But she seems to avoid it.

by Anonymousreply 2910/16/2013

There is maybe one big studio western produced, what, every two or three years?

by Anonymousreply 3010/16/2013

R29 film making is much more quick and pays more.

It is also more family friendly, as she could work 4 months on a film and take 4 months off.

With a play it is 8x a week.

But now that she is facing empty nest, maybe she will return to the stage.

by Anonymousreply 3110/16/2013

I don't think she'll ever dedicate herself to stage work.

by Anonymousreply 3210/16/2013

R31: Those practical considerations make sense. It's just that most serious actors indicate that theater is the most fulfilling artistically. So you would think someone touted as the greatest actress of her generation would feel some pull toward the stage.

by Anonymousreply 3310/16/2013

Why has Meryl Streep never done a "magical negro" movie?

by Anonymousreply 3410/16/2013

R33, didn't she do Mother Courage in the park fairly recently?

by Anonymousreply 3510/16/2013

I did Seagull in 2001 and Mother Courage in 2006.

When was G's last stage appearance, anything since Sunset Boulevard (which I turned down), Death and the Maiden (which I turned down, Susan Weaver did the film), The Real Thing (which I turned down)and Uncommon Women and Others (which I did on PBS with the original cast taking over G's role)

by Anonymousreply 3610/16/2013

It's just a matter of time that Streep will be doing a cable channel effort, a'la Damages or American Horror Story. She'll be a matriarch of something.

Mark my word.

by Anonymousreply 3710/17/2013

Paging the Streep Troll(tm)!

by Anonymousreply 3810/17/2013

Click, click, click, BOOM!

by Anonymousreply 3910/17/2013

OK Why has she never done an industrial training film?

by Anonymousreply 4010/17/2013

Her role as the pretty and young married romantic interest of Robert deNiro in FALLING IN LOVE qualifes as science fiction.

by Anonymousreply 4110/17/2013

Okay, why has she never performed a James Bond theme song?

by Anonymousreply 4210/17/2013

I really want to burn down all of your houses for not mentioning DEATH BECOMES HER.

And before you try to tell me that it's a horror movie, or a comedy - the bitch walks around with her head on backward, among many other things. It's a fantasy. Special effects and everything!

by Anonymousreply 4310/17/2013

Let's see this Meryl person do a screwball comedy...

by Anonymousreply 4410/17/2013

Let's see anyone under 30 who actually knows who you are, R44

by Anonymousreply 4510/17/2013

At least in a Sci Fi film she'd be weightless.

by Anonymousreply 4610/17/2013

I don't say no to anything!

by Anonymousreply 4710/17/2013

I think she would return to the stage before doing a TV series.

She might do a mini-series for cable. But I don't think she would box herself into a series.

Her goal was to be a theater actress. But her success with films, allowed her to call the shots for her family time.

by Anonymousreply 4810/17/2013

She's definitely not a fearless actress (I use that word loosely). She presence for the stage, R48. No star power. Takes herself too seriously. Total bo-are!

by Anonymousreply 4910/18/2013

[quote] She presence for the stage

poor Kate. not only was she a bitter lesbian who spent her life doting on an alcoholic married man.....BUT now her grammar is going!!!!!
