There's talk that the government could reopen tomorrow or Monday

Does that mean they'll pass a budget for that to happen? Federal workers need them to pass one in order to get payed.

They don't need a budget, just a continuing resolution (CR.) And it's PAID, not "payed."

I hope so! My partner ans I arrive there on Wednesday for a few days and would like to visit the museums etc.

Any ideas for things to do in the event the government is still closed?

by Anonymousreply 210/11/2013

I hope so too since my partner is furloughed and hasn't gotten paid since this started!

There are non-government museums (although not many, and they're not free.) Mt. Vernon is a possibility, although if everything else is closed, it might be bearing the brunt of the overflow.

by Anonymousreply 410/11/2013

Well, we know it won't open Monday.

R2, the spy museum, National Geographic museum, Newseum, are a few I believe are still open - though you must pay. Prices are reasonable, IMO.

Where did you hear this talk, OP? Free Republic or Coast to Coast AM?

by Anonymousreply 710/11/2013

r7 = retard.

It looks like Cruz and Rand have gotten their moment in the spotlight.

Now serious deal makers are working to find some small fig leaf the Republicans can call a victory to pass both a CR and increase the debt ceiling.

Something along the lines of "We shut the government down so you wouldn't have to pay that medical device tax. Go team!"

by Anonymousreply 910/11/2013

R2, your partner got paid today, but it was only a 60% check.

The Republicans seem more in a tizzy than ever - they don't know which way is up. What is everyone's prediction on when the rest of the gov't will be reopened?

by Anonymousreply 1110/11/2013

Isn't Monday Columbus Day?
