In the unlikely event Boehner shows some balls and stops appeasing the 80 suicidal Republican zealots...

And, he is replaced as Speaker.

And we have Cantor or some other asshole.

Will things be worse than they are with Boehner?

I've been asking myself if Boehner might be rationalizing his choice to not go down that road, not just because he'd lose his position, but because he actually feels he can do some good being, in his own mind, a relatively reasonable voice who might be replaced by someone who is more of a demagogue.

For Obama, I don't think it matters as Boehner has always been openly disrespectful of the President and prefers not to deal with him. He may be a demagogue, but he's doing an excellent impersonation of one to appease the Tea Party.

So I can't imagine Cantor being Speaker as fundamentally any different - Cantor will just be more strident.

Only a big loss in 2014 will have any potential effect. I say "potential" because clearly the GOP lossin 2012 didn't have any lasting impact.
