Tina Fey hosts the 39th season premiere. Arcade Fire is the musical guest.

There are 6 new featured cast members, including DL favorite Beck Bennett aka The AT&T Guy. I hope he can do impressions.

by Anonymousreply 12409/30/2013

Nobody cares, Lorne.

by Anonymousreply 109/28/2013

Call me when you get over yourself and invite Carol Burnett to host, LORNE!

by Anonymousreply 209/28/2013

Does Lorne have something personal against Carol, or is that just your assumption because she's never hosted? Whatever the case, sketch comedy is her thing and she should host if she's still working.

by Anonymousreply 309/28/2013

Carol preferred SCTV in the early 80s, she made a cameo appearance in one of their episodes.

by Anonymousreply 409/28/2013

I'm looking forward to the season premiere. Love for Tina Fey...She won an Emmy recently and said "...I want to thank the pope for just being cool about some stuff." I'm also finding the reruns of 30 Rock very clever. Considering the past few months of news, I imagine Seth Myers at Weekend Update will have plenty to say and these days I need a laugh.

by Anonymousreply 509/28/2013
Nobody cares, Lorne.

Agree 1000%

by Anonymousreply 609/28/2013

There's no such thing as 1000%, R6.

by Anonymousreply 709/28/2013

There is no such thing as a funny episode of SNL either, R7.

by Anonymousreply 809/28/2013

How clever you are, R8. I'd like to see you try it.

by Anonymousreply 909/28/2013

Bump for hilarious SNL premiere!

by Anonymousreply 1009/28/2013

Will their be castes with stickers on them?

by Anonymousreply 1109/28/2013

I can't wait for the fun!

by Anonymousreply 1209/28/2013

I love Tina, but what will she do next? Her last film was a bomb. 30 ROCK was wonderful, but it was never the huge hit/$$$ cow it could have been. Will she go behind the scenes? Will she go on acting? What's next?

by Anonymousreply 1309/28/2013

Almost time

by Anonymousreply 1409/28/2013

Ted Cruz wishes he looked like Taran Killam.

by Anonymousreply 1509/28/2013

Well, the "Girls" sendup was kind of funny, and certainly on the nose.

by Anonymousreply 1609/28/2013

The Girls skit was pretty funny.

by Anonymousreply 1709/28/2013

by Anonymousreply 1809/28/2013

Oh, wow, a game show sketch. How original.

by Anonymousreply 1909/28/2013

Six new cast members:

Five whiter than white guys. One very white girl.

by Anonymousreply 2009/28/2013

E meth was funny

by Anonymousreply 2109/28/2013

Okay, the e-Blue meth pipe was funny.

by Anonymousreply 2209/28/2013

Who's the guy with the knit cap on that the audience keeps screaming for?

by Anonymousreply 2309/28/2013

I got distracted. Was there a skit between the Girls satire and the game show sketch?

by Anonymousreply 2409/28/2013

The oversized carry on was a good gag The skit surrounding it notsomuch

by Anonymousreply 2509/28/2013

I want to like Arcade Fire but no.

Looooong song!

by Anonymousreply 2609/28/2013

Arcade Fire looks like an SNL parody band. The female singer is fucking ridiculous. They all look like Hipster douchebags and pretentious as hell. I guess they believe the hype.

by Anonymousreply 2709/28/2013

Girls sketch was perfect:"you're only 15" "actually I'm 25"

by Anonymousreply 2809/28/2013

Jesse from Breaking Bad. That's why he was in the Meth skit.

by Anonymousreply 2909/28/2013

Cecily Strong needs to lose weight. She's too puffy, even behind the Weekend Update desk.

by Anonymousreply 3009/28/2013

Oh, okay. Thanks, R29. I don't watch Breaking Bad, so had no idea.

by Anonymousreply 3109/28/2013

R30, shut up, with your intolerant superficial crap. Sicko

by Anonymousreply 3209/28/2013

Happy to see the Breakfast Club girl grew up and found a job.

by Anonymousreply 3309/28/2013

Cecily Strong needs to lose weight but Beck Bennett doesn't?

by Anonymousreply 3409/28/2013

by Anonymousreply 3509/28/2013

Lorne has said that this show is geared to appealed to teens and that without fail, everyone says that their fave snl seasons line up with their high school years, So we can blame the Class of 2017 for this shotshow.

by Anonymousreply 3609/28/2013

That woman in the band looks like a short Matt Damon with tits in a bad wig.

by Anonymousreply 3709/28/2013
Cecily Strong needs to lose weight but Beck Bennett doesn't?

Yes. She was much thinner last year.

I know the first thing I'd do after learning I got a major promotion on national TV is gain 20 pounds.

by Anonymousreply 3809/28/2013

I just don't think it's funny. There, I said it!

by Anonymousreply 3909/28/2013

Has Tina had work done?

by Anonymousreply 4009/28/2013

Beck Bennett easily needs to lose 20 pounds - you work your whole life to get a big break and then ruin your smart good looks by adding 20+ pounds?

That being said, while Cecily Strong needs to lose a few, they both pale in comparison to Kennan's HUGE weight gain

by Anonymousreply 4109/28/2013

I LOVE Beck Bennett's thighs in the opening monologue. Damn! He's hot! I'm going to jerk off tonight with him in mind; fucking that ass while holding up those hot thighs.

by Anonymousreply 4209/28/2013

If only we could encase the whole show in that crystal thing the woman in the band was standing in.

by Anonymousreply 4309/28/2013

Jesus, when Kenan Thompson is your elder statesman/leading man, you are in fucking trouble.

by Anonymousreply 4409/28/2013

Whatever r41! Beck Bennett looks fine to me. Body contact with him looks hot. A little fat is not bad, especially when you have nice big thighs like him.

by Anonymousreply 4509/28/2013

Weekend Update was not very funny.

by Anonymousreply 4609/28/2013

Oh, Keenan. Sigh.

by Anonymousreply 4709/28/2013

Why does Lorne Michaels associate funny with fat? The brown haired female cast member from last year has gotten fatter. She's about four and a half feet tall and three feet wide. Beck Bennett is really cute but I had no idea he was so chunky. And Strong does look puffy. Is she pregnant? She isn't quirky or likable enough to carry the Weekend Update segment. McKinnon would have been better. Seth looks great. And Killiam looks alot thinner. I guess so he can do the Sudeikis and Hader roles. So far, no one really stands out. It really isn't a great season opener.

by Anonymousreply 4809/28/2013
Has Tina had work done?

Ha. Her massive crow's feet suggest otherwise.

by Anonymousreply 4909/28/2013

I thought Keenan looked like he lost weight. The man was fat as a kid. And it's part of his schtick. He is never going to be skinny.

by Anonymousreply 5009/28/2013

I thought Myers left the show

by Anonymousreply 5109/28/2013

r48 has food issues

by Anonymousreply 5209/28/2013

So is Beck Bennett gay?

On a separate note, he sure seemed to like swiveling his hips in that opening bit.

by Anonymousreply 5309/28/2013

What is this unfunny "byeee" thing that has popped up a couple times?

by Anonymousreply 5409/28/2013

Beck is hot! I love a stocky man. You can see his big thighs even in those AT&T ads. Even a suit can't cover them up.

by Anonymousreply 5509/28/2013

Brooks Whelan is HOT AS HELL.

He seemed queeny in the opening, but his online clips read straight.

by Anonymousreply 5609/28/2013

Is it weird that I can't tell the real commercials from the show? Discount double check and looked completely like really bad skits.

by Anonymousreply 5709/28/2013

I'm loving the tall new guy with the banging body.

by Anonymousreply 5809/28/2013

R57, I concur. I think that Gap ad with the pretentious bad musician was a legit skit with one of the new cast members.

by Anonymousreply 5909/28/2013

Tina is a good soldier for NBC. She'd probably wants another sitcom.

by Anonymousreply 6009/28/2013

Arcad Fire are really bad Talking Heads wannabes. Those outfits look like something you would see on The Grand Old Opry stage. How ironic!

by Anonymousreply 6109/28/2013

The guy in the Gap ad is Dhani Harrison. He's George Harrison's son. That is not a parody ad. There is also one with Alexis Joel. Although, with the new nose, it is hard to tell who she is. The tip off is that she is singing Just the Way You Are.

by Anonymousreply 6209/28/2013

Will Cecily be on the WU desk alone after Seth leaves in February? Or will they get someone else to sit in with her?

by Anonymousreply 6309/28/2013

Cecily Strong looks like Amanda from BIG BROTHER 15.

by Anonymousreply 6409/28/2013

"You'll feel like you're drinking lobster straight out of the sink!"

by Anonymousreply 6509/28/2013

This show sucks. I miss MAD tv.

by Anonymousreply 6609/28/2013

None of these people believe in working out. Look at the gut on the one in the pink dress.

by Anonymousreply 6709/28/2013

Rape jokes. Thanks Lorne.

by Anonymousreply 6809/28/2013

Cecily Strong at Weekend Update is a big mistake. She's a big meh.

They should have pulled in the cute John Mulaney in to do it, as was rumored. Guess he had a tantrum after his Lorne-produced NBC sitcom pilot wasn't picked up.

by Anonymousreply 6909/28/2013

OK why is NBC now showing an Arcade Fire dance party?

by Anonymousreply 7009/28/2013

All these people are repulsive. Somebody better re-establish the show's cocaine connections to get some fat-burning going on.

When Tina Fey looks like Kate Moss next to all your female cast members, there are ISSUES.

by Anonymousreply 7109/28/2013

Bono and Ben Stiller and Michael Cera cameos? And was that James Franco at the beginning?

Did I accidentally smoke a blu e-Meth pipe?

by Anonymousreply 7209/28/2013

Yep r66, MadTV, late '98 thru '03 or so, that's some classic comedy. It was dominated by the female cast, about 5 really funny women. The early seasons are painfully bad, but it improved immensely. Hope some network starts showing the reruns again, I haven't seen them for nearly a decade.

by Anonymousreply 7309/28/2013

When you think about the greatness of the early years, especially the first cast, when they only needed 7 or 8 players to make great television, WHY do they need so many cast members nowadays?

by Anonymousreply 7409/28/2013

What am I missing here? What's up with this Arcade? WHY are they getting this much attention? What am I missing here?

by Anonymousreply 7509/28/2013

MAD tv did really funny impressions and current event parodies that SNL would never touch. The sweating, frantic, squatting Whitney Houston. John Ramsey standing around with creepy bug eyes. The kidnapped Elizabeth Smart girl playing a harp. Hilarious stuff at the time. And the cross eyed, sloppy Kenny Rogers eating fried chicken was crazy.

by Anonymousreply 7609/28/2013

Bill and Zach? WTF?

by Anonymousreply 7709/28/2013

Arcade Fire, if you show your concert audience doing choreography in unison, the TV audience might think you hired actors instead of actual fans.

by Anonymousreply 7809/28/2013

Hipsters, you have a lot to answer for.

by Anonymousreply 7909/28/2013

R76, it was also taped, not live, which made it easier to do polished comedy. Similar to how SCTV was arguably better than SNL at the time, even though the SCTV cast wasn't really any better than the original SNL cast. MadTV was actually using SCTV's director during its peak years, too.

by Anonymousreply 8009/28/2013

Cera plus Galifinakis plus Franco plus Aziz! Douche chills for the 2013 time capsule. The first pop culture joke to mock in VH1's "I Love the Teens."

by Anonymousreply 8109/28/2013

How long til Justin Timberfake shows up?

by Anonymousreply 8209/28/2013

Oh God r82! Can we just have one season without that little fake fucker!

by Anonymousreply 8309/28/2013

I thought that dumb ass miley cyrus was supposed to be on tonight

by Anonymousreply 8409/28/2013

Did I blink and miss Wayne Coyne? Sarah Silverman? The guys from Tim and Eric Good Job???

by Anonymousreply 8509/28/2013

R62, Dhani and Alexa Ray are singing their parent's songs in the ads for charity

by Anonymousreply 8609/28/2013
When you think about the greatness of the early years, especially the first cast, when they only needed 7 or 8 players to make great television, WHY do they need so many cast members nowadays?

Well, as usual Lorne will end up hating a couple of those people and they will hardly be on the show

by Anonymousreply 8709/28/2013

Well, at least Dhani and Alexa Rae have established careers as musicians and aren't trying to ride their parents' coattails to national exposure...

by Anonymousreply 8809/28/2013

I feel like I'm getting running commentary on this show from the Olsen twins and LeeAnn Rimes. These performers are not that fat, unless you have huge dysmorphia issues.

by Anonymousreply 8909/28/2013
Will Cecily be on the WU desk alone after Seth leaves in February? Or will they get someone else to sit in with her?

latest rumor is that Seth will finish out the season on SNL

not sure if that means his show will premiere after Feb or if he will do both shows for a few months.

by Anonymousreply 9009/28/2013

I thought the airport sketch was stupid but funny.

by Anonymousreply 9109/29/2013

Thanks, R90.

by Anonymousreply 9209/29/2013

the ONLY funny thing was the GIRLS spoof.

that's it.

by Anonymousreply 9309/29/2013

by Anonymousreply 9409/29/2013

R82 R83 Whether you two like it or not, Justin has been one of the only consistently funny performers on SNL for several years now. Unless, of course, you [italic]like[/italic] those skits in which they repeat a bad joke three to seven times (I'll bet that's it).

by Anonymousreply 9509/29/2013

The show has been running on fumes for years. It's the only game in town for late-night comedy, so they can get away with being mediocre.

by Anonymousreply 9609/29/2013

Next week: Alec Baldwin

Coming soon: Jon Hamm, Melissa McCarthy, Justin Timberlake.

by Anonymousreply 9709/29/2013

Did Jay Pharoah blow the Aaron Paul portion of the opening by introducing him as someone from MEXICO and not New Mexico?

by Anonymousreply 9809/29/2013

The show needs to go away. The showrunners seem out of touch and it is still shockingly “white bread”. But, as others have said, it’s the only late nite comedy skit show left. You’d think “Comedy Central” would think up a cool series and finally give NBC some competition.

by Anonymousreply 9909/29/2013

This critic was not impressed:

by Anonymousreply 10009/29/2013

Jay Pharoah sucks as Obama. I actually thought Fred Armisen was better at it.

by Anonymousreply 10109/29/2013

Not at all entertaining to me.

by Anonymousreply 10209/29/2013

Cecily Strong is not fat.

by Anonymousreply 10309/29/2013

E meth really wasn't funny. It could have been. Who are the lame writers?

by Anonymousreply 10409/29/2013

Tina Fey needs to hang it up. Bye, racist mean girl bitch.

by Anonymousreply 10509/29/2013

R105 - How is she racist?

by Anonymousreply 10609/29/2013

I thought Lorne's line "Is it the black guy?" was pretty funny/

by Anonymousreply 10709/29/2013

I gather there was a sketch with the AT&T guy as Alan Thicke that got cut.

by Anonymousreply 10809/29/2013

I still don't get the push for Cecily Strong. She's ok, funny in the porn star sketches with Vanessa Bayer, but not strong enough to be an anchor on WU. It should have been poor Nasim Pedrad, who basically only got a cameo last night.

by Anonymousreply 10909/30/2013

[all posts by tedious, racist idiot removed.]

by Anonymousreply 11009/30/2013

What more than this gig do you think McKinnon deserves because she's pretty much still an unknown actor at the start of her career? A lead in a major motion picture? Her own sitcom?

by Anonymousreply 11109/30/2013

The entire episode was painfully unfunny...what the fuck was up with that Manolo Blahnik skit?

by Anonymousreply 11209/30/2013

Elder gay here and you have to remember that even during SNL's glory days (i.e. Radner, Chase, Belushi), on each episode there was maybe one really good sketch, a couple of iffys and several bombs. The last half hour of the show was almost always draggy and boring.

The show simply continues that trend, although there's very seldomly a really good sketch.

by Anonymousreply 11309/30/2013

I always have enjoyed this show. Maybe I am just used to it. I grew up watching it in the 80s, and through the 90s and up until today. My earliest memories as a kid was watching Mr. Bill. This show, in my opinion, has been the best it's ever been in the last 10 years or so. The 90s had great sketch comedians but now there were some really embarrassing and unfunny things going on.

This past episode, there was nothing embarrassing and several times I laughed out loud. When Kennan said, "Just the ass or the whole thing," line, I had to rewind. And momma's white shuba shuba. And the new cast member's TIGHT lean body and big feet in the meth had was worth going slow-mo for.

Having watched the show for so long, the only consistent thing is how people feel the need to hate on it.

r113 is absolutely right - try watching an entire episode from 1978 and see how far you get.

by Anonymousreply 11409/30/2013

"I gave my babies to the well." That line was funny as well as the one about undergoing shock treatment to "change my thoughts."

But yeah, yet another lame game show parody.

by Anonymousreply 11509/30/2013

e-meth ad

by Anonymousreply 11609/30/2013

[all posts by tedious, racist idiot removed.]

by Anonymousreply 11809/30/2013

SNL does not need to change the set for game show parodies.

by Anonymousreply 11909/30/2013

Cecily Strong is NOT FUNNY cannot imagine why they are giving her the Update platform Kate McKinnon is genuinely funny and could break out (ala Krisitn Wiig) if theyd give her more to do rest of the new cast is rather unattractive-Tina fey did a lot of heavy lifting on the premiere. Arcade Fire-I thought it was a parody

by Anonymousreply 12009/30/2013

Jeez, I guess I'm not feeling the Kate McKinnon fever that everyone else is.

by Anonymousreply 12109/30/2013

R109, I read somewhere that Pedrad had good moments in two sketches that got cut after the dress rehearsal.

by Anonymousreply 12209/30/2013

The opening Obama sketch was awful and ran way too long. Pharaoh needs to brush up on his Obama - he was decent last season but it sounds like he hasn't practiced him in awhile.

I actually felt like Tina Fey didn't get to do much on the show, aside from be Tina Fey. I guess that was the point of her "I have no recurring characters" bit in the monoglogue.

Where were Michael Cera and Ben Stiller?

by Anonymousreply 12309/30/2013

I thought Fey was terrific in the Girls spoof and in the 1940s movies spoof.
