Hmm....better than Chenowith, Joely Fisher or Nicole "Frozen Face" Kidman, I suppose.
Adele to play legendary Dusty Springfield in biopic?

Is serious CGI involved? Cause Adele looks nothing like her.
And pregnant or not, Adele is big. I mean, really, really enormous.
Like, house size big.

Don't do it Adele! You're gonna bite the Dust(y).
|by Mary O Brien||reply 5||09/28/2013|
She's too fat.
|by Mary O Brien||reply 6||09/28/2013|
What have we done to deserve this?
|by Mary O Brien||reply 7||09/28/2013|
I hope this is a joke, too! What's coming next - Gabourey Sidibe in a Lena Horne biopic?!
|by Mary O Brien||reply 8||09/28/2013|
I think she's tremendous!
No, I mean... really.
|by Mary O Brien||reply 9||09/28/2013|
Can't that fat cunt overload a plane with her egomaniacal mass and slap into a mountain somewhere? She's a no-talent, trashy, one-note lardass with a vocal range of four rasping notes, the timbre of a macaque, and the emotional depth of a mud puddle.
|by Mary O Brien||reply 10||09/28/2013|
I don't recall Dusty Springfield ever being morbidly obese....but maybe that's just me.
|by Mary O Brien||reply 11||09/28/2013|
Does OP's handle make this a soap thread?
|by Mary O Brien||reply 12||09/28/2013|
Ok, I like those Adele songs that came out a couple of years ago. I don't know why DL doesn't like her but whatever.
I googled images of both of them. Adele would have to lose a lot of weight but they aren't that dissimilar in appearance. It's not like DS had such an iconic face or anything.
I think she could pull it off.
|by Mary O Brien||reply 13||09/28/2013|
Singers shouldn't act.
|by Mary O Brien||reply 14||09/28/2013|
I think Adele is vastly overrated as a singer... her voice always sounds a shade flat to me.
If she lost the necessary amount of weight, and with the right hair and makeup, she probably could pass physically for Dusty Springfield as well as anyone could -- but there's no way her singing would pass the test.
|by Mary O Brien||reply 15||09/28/2013|
Plus, who here believes Adele can act well enough to carry a whole movie? Seriously, casting her makes it sound like they're making a low-budget movie as a promo for the soundtrack album sales.
Who should play her, anyway? I can't think of a talented young actress who resembles her.
|by Mary O Brien||reply 16||09/28/2013|
"Does OP's handle make this a soap thread?"
Darling, learn *something* about Dusty Springfield...
|by Mary O Brien||reply 17||09/28/2013|
R16, yes, removeAdele's head and throw away both it and the unfortunate body it had been attached to (paying extra at the landfill because of the weight), and bring in someone else and, yes, she could pass for Dusty Springfield, if they'd dub the voice.
(Cue circus music.)
|by Mary O Brien||reply 18||09/29/2013|
Adele is not morbidly obese.
Some of you must look like utter shit.
|by Mary O Brien||reply 19||09/29/2013|
Regardless, R20, she's waaaay too heavy to play Dusty Springfield.
|by Mary O Brien||reply 20||09/29/2013|
I think this is inspired casting. I'll watch.
|by Mary O Brien||reply 21||09/29/2013|
So much better than Chenoweth squeaking her way through it.

More than half of today's stars - loosely called actors - have no talent.
There have been plenty of singers who did very good acting in motion pictures.

Wishin' & hopin'....someone else is cast

|by Mary O Brien||reply 27||09/29/2013|
I'm old enough to know who Dusty Springfield was and like her music.
I had to google her image to know what she looks like.
I don't think I'm in the minority.
|by Mary O Brien||reply 28||09/29/2013|
Couldn't they get the Lady Penelope puppet from 'Thunderbirds'?
|by Mary O Brien||reply 29||09/29/2013|
While R20 draws the ridiculous conclusion that because Adele is fat anyone who notices it must be ugly (a true twat logic working there), R29 absurdly declares that her ignorance of Dusty's appearance somehow means something because she bets a lot of other people don't know what Dusty looked like, either.
And this after declaring that she doesn't know why the DL doesn't like Adele, "but whatever."
One sees what happens when the flypaper of Adele is hung in the DL hog shed.
|by Mary O Brien||reply 30||09/29/2013|
r29 here. I forgot to quote who I was responding to.
[quote]I can't think of a single young actress today, American or British, who has even a passing resemblance to Dusty.
I wrote above that I think Adele would need to lose weight. That said, I think there's enough of a resemblance to make it work.

From the get-go she reminded me of Dusty. The accent. The hair-dos. I think she could do it.
|by Mary O Brien||reply 34||09/29/2013|
I like Adele, she is funny in interviews and seems to not take much shit from people.
But I think she might be a bit too young to play Dusty. Dusty was a bit more road worn.
Anybody remember when Bette did The Rose? Lots of people doubted she could act, but like her or not, she was really impressive in that movie. Maybe Adele will surprise us.
|by Mary O Brien||reply 35||09/29/2013|
Her voice and the manner of singing are totally dissimilar to Dusty's. They could've just as well cast Sade.
|by Mary O Brien||reply 36||09/29/2013|
Because she would be totally unable to change the way she sings for a role.
Barbra did such a great job as Fanny Brice, too.
|by Mary O Brien||reply 37||09/29/2013|
If they start with her teen years I know I can play that, but in her post 30s? The makeup required to make me approximate her age would be so extensive!
|by Mary O Brien||reply 38||09/29/2013|
for a current singer, I think Duffy sort of resembles Dusty and could possibly pull of the style. I have no idea if she has acting aspirations or not.
|by Mary O Brien||reply 39||10/02/2013|
I just read that they are thinking of getting John Goodman to play Dusty.
|by Mary O Brien||reply 40||10/02/2013|
Adele won`t be able to talk like Dusty.
|by Mary O Brien||reply 41||10/02/2013|
R42 or walk, or sing, or look...most anything really.
|by Mary O Brien||reply 42||10/02/2013|

She almost won an Oscar.

You don't have to say you love me, just be close at hand.
|by Mary O Brien||reply 44||10/02/2013|
What's the point in making a Dusty Springfield movie? She was a famous singer with a career. It wasn't a remarkable career.. She was gay, but she was closeted. She was an alcoholic and was involved in violent relationships. Why is that interesting? It's kind of tawdry.. Both she and her lovers were violent towards each other. She got breast cancer and died.
Bobby Darin's story was more interesting. He was a sickly kid, had rheumatic fever, wasn't expected to live as long as he did. His sister was really his mother. He was married to a mentally ill woman (Sandra Dee). He had open heart surgery when it was still experimental and died at 37. Yet that movie was a flop. What's so interesting about Dusty Springfield that a movie about her will be any better than a movie about Bobby Darin?

[quote] Adele won`t be able to talk like Dusty.
Why, because she's from Tottenham instead of West Hampstead? Isn't it only a half hour train ride? Can someone from Queens not play someone from the Bronx?
|by Mary O Brien||reply 46||10/02/2013|
No one recalls what Dusty Springfield looked like. With a good Dippity-Doo wig, she can pull it off.
|by Mary O Brien||reply 47||10/02/2013|
Maybe Adele can play Freddie Mercury next.
|by Mary O Brien||reply 48||10/02/2013|
Adele is far better known and more popular than Dusty Springfield ever was. It is not like Ciara, JHud or your mama being cast to play Whitney Houston.
Adele can do it. She can sing just about like Dusty and I bet my ass she can act. Why so much Adele hate when she is one of the good ones?
|by Mary O Brien||reply 49||10/02/2013|
I loves me gays. Me spanks is working overthyme to make sure I gets me hamhocks in the bloody costume. See you Oscar night.

|by Mary O Brien||reply 51||10/03/2013|
Honestly, I don't get why there should be a Dusty Springfield bio when Hollywood has never done a Judy Garland bio. Maybe it's just me, but surely Garland is more deserving of a big screen tribute.
|by Mary O Brien||reply 52||10/04/2013|
Isn't she kind of fat to play Dusty?
|by Mary O Brien||reply 53||10/04/2013|
Are you for real?
|by Mary O Brien||reply 54||10/04/2013|
I have a feeling a Dusty bio-pic will only ever happen as a British TV movie, like that one from a few years back about Shirley Bassey.
I stand by my suggestion of Rose Leslie from Game of Thrones/Downton Abbey.
|by Mary O Brien||reply 55||10/04/2013|
R56, I am talking about a "big screen" bio.
I would love to see Anne Hathaway in the part. She's the only contemporary actress who has that same combination of vulnerability and strength.
