How homophobic is Korea and Koreans?

I ask because it seems like all the Asian guys I think are hot- John Cho, Daniel Dae Kim, Rick Yun, Steven Yeun, the hot bodybuilder in the "Bodybuilders" thread- are all of Korean descent or Korean.

Is it that bad over there? (South Korea only, of course.)

I realized that after I posted, R2. I added "... and Koreans" at the last minute.

I did sleep with a Korean guy once who had a great body (as many do) and was not "small."

Normally I couldn't care less about spelling and grammar but this site really makes my cattiness flow.

OP, I also tend to be most attracted to Korean men. I think the problem is that Christian missionaries (including Methodists and Baptists) had a lot of success over there. Tend to be a lot more Jesus freaks among Koreans than other Asian ethnicities--and that is related to self-loathing and family disapproval.

I was stationed in Korea for a year. There was one gay bar in Seoul and it was really hard to find. There didn't seem to be any openly gay Koreans either...and this was in 2006!

[R5] What a fucking bitch. Do you ever have anything to actually contribute to a discussion? Do you just troll for things to queen up about?

Whenever I see a gathering of Korean Christians gathered in a park (sometimes singing "How Great Thou Art" in Korean,) I steer clear.

R8 Sometimes I have interesting things to add to the discussion. Other times I just add things I think will be entertaining to the other readers. :-)

I live in a small, liberal, college town home to a huge land-grant university. I've lived amongst Koreans who come over with their families so that the husbands can take post-doc courses, work on their doctorates, or as visiting professors. Every family I lived by were highly religious people. We even have a Korean baptist church here.

A Korean American friend said that her Korean aunt came to visit the US. Her parents took the aunt to NY and it just so happened to be the day of the gay pride parade. The aunt was bowled over. She'd never seen anything like it before, especially drag queens and men in skimpy clothing.

She said that in Korea, there were homosexual men, but they got married and had children because that is what is expected of Korean children by their parents and by society. There's really no such thing as a bachelor after a certain age.

Get them away from their idiot families and Korean guys can be fine. But they closet-in as soon as Mom's image settles in.
