Orlando as Romeo !

DL fave Orlando Bloom has surfaced after a quiet period - in ROMEO & JULIET on Broadway, quite a prestigious gig. Orland at 36 is playing Romeo ! We here at DL had more or less written him off.

An old Romeo and a black (or mixed race) Juliet - not being ageist or racist or sexist, thats some odd casting ! - as the Capulets are black and the Montagues white.

Is Orland still a heart-throb? will the fans & the fraus turn up ?

Isn't Orlando old enough to play Romeo's father by now? I mean, the kid is what, 15, 16?

by Anonymousreply 109/20/2013

He's OVAH.

Too old for the part, doughy, tragic nipple placement, awful actor.

Who the fuck is Gondola Rashad?

by Anonymousreply 209/20/2013

Once again R2, don't be ignorant.

by Anonymousreply 309/20/2013

Orlando had his 15 minutes. He's been over for years. Never saw anything special in his screen presence or acting abilities.

by Anonymousreply 409/20/2013

I like him a lot!

by Anonymousreply 509/20/2013

R3 = Orlando's agent

The casting is nothing new - WEST SIDE STORY is also a Romeo & Juliet knock-off where the Capulets are Puerto Ricans.

It takes determination though at 36 to follow in the footsteps of age-appropriate Romeos like Leonard Whiting or De Caprio.

For me Bloom is like Josh Hartnett or Joseph Fiennes - an actor who had his moment and has not lasted.

by Anonymousreply 709/21/2013

I wish him well. He seems like a nice guy who wants to restart his career.

by Anonymousreply 809/21/2013

What, no Aaron Taylor-Johnson?

by Anonymousreply 909/21/2013

[quote]Orland at 36 is playing Romeo!

OP does sound like one of the 'Matt Bomer for Christian Grey' petition signers.

by Anonymousreply 1009/21/2013

Bloom looks young enough on stage (where you're at a distance) to get away with it.

by Anonymousreply 1109/21/2013

OP has evidently not seen the Leslie Howard version.

Just watched a coverage about the play with a quick intervierw with Bloom and Gondola Rashad in Sky News, he looked good. He doesn't look as old as in photos. He looks seriously good as Romeo. The way he looks really fits the role.

And to R2, you really just embarrased yourself by labeling so and so an "awful actor" when at the same time, you stupidly letting us know that you don't know who Gondola Rashad is. I think that what R3 was referring to you as "ignorant".

Yes, Orlando Bloom is still a heartthrob. DL needs to give some space to some decent actors who are not you-know-who.

by Anonymousreply 1309/23/2013

Orlando never appealed to me.

by Anonymousreply 1409/23/2013

Her name is Condola with a C

by Anonymousreply 1509/23/2013

[quote]Orlando never appealed to me.

I think that's exactly why he's still getting work.

by Anonymousreply 1609/23/2013

It's not selling especially well on Bway. Decent sales for Shakespeare, but not much for a "star" vehicle.

Are they marketing it as a limited run?

Cause it will be.

by Anonymousreply 1709/23/2013

Who do you suggest that would sell that tickets? Please answer.

by Anonymousreply 1809/23/2013

The report says it was a sellout in the opening night.

by Anonymousreply 1909/23/2013

At one point there were opening night tickets available at deep discount ($39) on TDF. That's not a sign of a huge hit. And Condola's mum, Phylicia, was in full sail at the opening! Beware pompous ladies!

by Anonymousreply 2009/23/2013

Colanda Rashad is Phylicia Rashad's daughter.

by Anonymousreply 2109/23/2013

Locanda Sharad.

Cosharda Lalad.

Racoonda Shalad!

by Anonymousreply 2209/24/2013

Orlando's reviews have been pretty good -- better than those for the staging -- so good for him.

He deserves a second chance. If it still doesn't work out this time, then stick a fork in him.

by Anonymousreply 2309/24/2013

by Anonymousreply 2409/24/2013

R24. Condolences to Condola. She didn't come off so well in the reviews, and Mommy isn't so happy.

by Anonymousreply 2509/24/2013

Flop....closing notice goes up in 3...2...1

by Anonymousreply 2609/24/2013

BAD reviews - no box office. I guess Orlando isn't the draw they'd hoped for - maybe he should have asked one of his hobbit friends to play Juliet.

It's a goner.
