The best tasting fish ever. Can you name a fish that tastes better?

One that isn't overfished and endangered. Thanks for fucking up the ecosystem, OP.

Ordinarily I want to slap R1s such as this, but she's absolutely right about orange roughy being notoriously overfished (along with other deep-sea species). In fact, it's a poster-hatchling for problems in fish harvesting and consumption.
Go find someone who sells Asian carp out of America's midwest waterways and develop a taste for it. Or eat farmed catfish.
And as far as addressing your question, nothing touches Dover sole in quality, and the North Sea Dover sole is NOT endangered and is being fished responsibly. Alaskan halibut also is wonderful and not depleted.

I had a roughy in an orange jumpsuit by the side of the highway once that tasted pretty good...

Fish is disgusting. Civilised people never eat anything that lives underwater. Although I might make an exception for The Man From Atlantis' ass.

Chilean sea bass, rainbow trout, or wild salmon.
|by Anonymous||reply 8||09/16/2013|
Do they have a nice rasberry roughie?
|by Anonymous||reply 9||09/16/2013|
The amazing trout that we used to catch when I was a kid. They were very mild and sweet, and my mother would coat them in flour and pan fry them in butter. Nothing better.

[quote] Orange Roughy
Now all I can think of is bondage sex with a ginger.

I just like the name. Sounds kinky as r11 has so kindly pointed out.
But rainbow trout is my personal fave - especially the way Ciaran describes. Yum!
Or even Bluegill. Takes quite a few to make a meal but floured in corn meal and fried in butter they are yummy!

bad move. they live forever - but mature over a frighteningly long period of time. they only start to mate like at the age or 35 or so. by eating them we level them all to extinction.
|by Anonymous||reply 13||09/16/2013|
Is it true that Orange Roughy is just Carp and there's plenty of it?
|by Anonymous||reply 14||09/16/2013|
Phfffft! on Orange Roughy,
You haven't lived until you've tried Blobfish.
|by Anonymous||reply 15||09/17/2013|
OP: Perhaps you'd enjoy it more if it was called by its original name-slimehead?
|by Anonymous||reply 16||09/17/2013|
Slimehead franchise? Is that like a Taco Bell?

Orange Roughy, love. Smoked Great Lakes Whitefish. Rainbow Trout. Walleye, yum. Chilean Seabass, but don't order it because it became overfished.

Add Wall Eyed Pike to the list. I lust for this between visits to Minnesota.

Nothing better than a nice smoked Goldeye.

Years ago, I was out on a Good Friday with the second (and final) woman I was involved with, my sisters and my best friend from elementary school, who came from old money and who was pretty much a flaming queen. We were at a standard fare sort of generic cuisine. Robert saw that there was a special for Orange Roughy, he said "that doesn't sound like a drink that they would serve in a supposedly predominantly heterosexual establishment!" When I told him that it was in fact, a fish, he burst out laughing, which made us all lose it. To, this day, I cannot hear Orange Roughy without visualizing some kind of queeny cockatil.

Chargrilled bluefish with Bernaise sauce. Ooh baby baby, such deliciousness.

Do you still eat fish post Fukushima?
|by Anonymous||reply 33||09/23/2013|
I still remember vividly the gilthead seabream with fresh orange sauce at Antico Giardinetto in Venice. So delicious. It's still on the menu!
Tuna (sushi grade)

I don't like picking out bones, what is a good bone free or minimal boney fish? Like I love rockfish, but the fucking bones.

I've never even seen it sold anywhere. Is it very expensive and not sold I the average fish stores I go to?
I've seen Dover sole in supermarkets. Is it real Dover soul they're selling?
Actually I'm not much of a fish fan except for shell fish and canned tuna. I've tried to like salmon for health reasons. I've had the best wild King salmon down to crappy farmed salmon and every kind in between. I just HATE salmon and that includes canned salmon. I do however like good quality lox but only with cream cheese on a bagel so with all the calories and fat in the bagel and cream cheese I might as well not even bother.
Then again I'm sure no one here gives a shit about this, not even really me. I'll go find a blog.

You actually believe that you were served orange roughy?
