I wish they would choose Fassy or Henry Cavill, but knowing People it will probably be someone like Liam Hemsworth.
Sexiest Man Alive 2013
|by Anonymous||reply 92||02/18/2014|
I'd pick Hemsworth over either of those two. Cavill is going to age like a Brit, you can already tell. The other one is too old already, in my book.
|by Anonymous||reply 1||09/16/2013|
Shemar Moore, over 40, yet amazing body, beautiful smile and eyes and seems easy going guy.
|by Anonymous||reply 2||09/16/2013|
|by Anonymous||reply 3||09/16/2013|
Who has a big movie coming out?
|by Anonymous||reply 4||09/16/2013|
Nobody relevant will accept it. Channing Tatum shouldn't have. Everyone knows this title is meaningless and PR based, no need in the era of internet gossip.
|by Anonymous||reply 5||09/16/2013|
It's about who the editorial staff of People decide it is. Who ever can sell magazines for them, or, if not up their circulation, at least buy the advertising they need to finish in the black.
So,include the studios and the publicists and the agencies who also help decide. Sometimes. Those who have clout. LOTS of clout. Of course it would have to be topical, but as I understand it, the person they select has to agree to do some promotion for it, and go on a few talk shows. it's pretty embarrassing shit.
It's such an insider type decision that it has lost credibility. Other magazines who copycat People do a better job. At least they pretend to take polls. It stinks. It is not what it was when it first started out. I think mostly it's about who can sell the magazine.
|by Anonymous||reply 6||09/16/2013|
I think it will be Liam Hemsworth, good call OP.
|by Anonymous||reply 7||09/16/2013|
I wouldn't be surprised if it's someone like Leonardo DiCaprio. He has a big film coming out, he has fans all over the globe. He was overlooked when he was younger, but now that he's hitting 40, it wouldn't be an odd choice.
|by Anonymous||reply 8||09/16/2013|
I guess they can't award it posthumously to Cory Monteith.
|by Anonymous||reply 9||09/16/2013|
Chris Hemsworth has a big new movie. Recent polling on DL shows Chris is twice as lusted for as Liam.
|by Anonymous||reply 10||09/16/2013|
They gave Liam Hemsworth "Paranoia" and even cast a bunch of big names around him and he completely failed, the reviews against him were scathing. He isn't going to get it.
Chris Hemsworth is doing great in the business and he goes have that Ryan Howard movie "Rush" to push. He is a pretty decent bet.
|by Anonymous||reply 11||09/16/2013|
Liam also has the next Thor movie coming out next year.
|by Anonymous||reply 12||09/16/2013|
Liam isn't really known.. he was barely in Hunger Games.
Whereas Chris Hemsworth has been in everything for the past 2 years, all sorts of blockbusters and now getting respect in that well reviewed Rush movie.
In short, Chris is one of the chosen ones for whatever reason (and actually delivering unlike Alex Pettyfer). Liam is known more for who his brother is and Miley Cyrus. So him being in Paranoia was too much too soon without a build up.
|by Anonymous||reply 13||09/16/2013|
Thor comes out in November....the same month as The Sexiest Man Alive issue. Do the math.
|by Anonymous||reply 14||09/16/2013|
I agree with r5 - doesn't the actor have to agree to a pictorial/interview? That's why it went to Bradley Cooper and not Ryan Gosling a couple of years ago. Ryan was smart enough to say no.
|by Anonymous||reply 15||09/16/2013|
[quote]Ryan was smart enough to say no.
I am also going to say no.
|by Anonymous||reply 16||09/16/2013|
I love DL's Joe Manganiello impersonators. Good job!
|by Anonymous||reply 17||09/16/2013|
Liam is too young for People magazine to choose him. Recipients of this "honor" are almost always over 30. In fact Chris barely qualifies as he is only 30 himself.
I agree with R4. It will be someone with a movie to promote as the studio will likely buy the award this year.
|by Anonymous||reply 18||09/16/2013|
Didn't Kim Jong Un already win this?
|by Anonymous||reply 19||09/16/2013|
[quote]Didn't Kim Jong Un already win this?
|by Anonymous||reply 20||09/16/2013|
It's going to be Ben Affleck and it's just business.
|by Anonymous||reply 21||09/16/2013|
The sexiest man alive--at least in the public eye--is Prince Carl-Philip of Sweden.
|by Anonymous||reply 22||09/16/2013|
Fassy has two big movies coming out this season, so he might want to play the PR game.
|by Anonymous||reply 23||09/16/2013|
People usually veers Middle American (at least in looks) and mainstream. I think Fassy is a little too edgy for that crowd and he may not even want it.
It will be somebody boring, like Chris Hemsworth or Ben Affleck.
|by Anonymous||reply 24||09/16/2013|
What about Charlie Hunnam, the studio needs to hype him for 50 Shades and SOA plays well with the flyovers.
|by Anonymous||reply 25||09/16/2013|
Thse people talking aabout actors not wanting the SEXIEST MAN ALIVE title is so full of BULLSHIT.
|by Anonymous||reply 26||09/16/2013|
R8 (Mia) Leo would not accept it.
He has fought fiercely in the past against this 'hunk of the month for the screaming twins' image, he won't relent now. Especially not when a serious movie is coming. That would jeopardize his chances for a nomination.
Well, he won't get nominated anyway, but if he accepted to grace the front page of People's Sexiest Man Alive, he would purposfully throw away his chance.
|by Anonymous||reply 27||09/16/2013|
[quote]Cavill is going to age like a Brit, you can already tell.
Bullshit. What can you already tell? I've yet to see a bad picture of this guy.
|by Anonymous||reply 28||09/16/2013|
I hate even having to type this crap up, but Justin Timberlake is probably in the running. He's got that movie (that already looks like a flop) with Ben Affleck coming up, plus the second part of this album, and he's got a part in the anticipated Coen Bros movie coming out in December.
|by Anonymous||reply 29||09/16/2013|
I think they will pick Matt Bomer
|by Anonymous||reply 30||09/16/2013|
Fassy or Cavill? AKA a woman beater or closet case? Great choices.
|by Anonymous||reply 31||09/16/2013|
I would pick Matt Bomer. When is The Normal Heart coming out?
|by Anonymous||reply 32||09/16/2013|
[quote]Thse people talking aabout actors not wanting the SEXIEST MAN ALIVE title is so full of BULLSHIT.
I agree. Why would anyone not want this?
|by Anonymous||reply 33||09/16/2013|
Has any non-white person ever won this? Denzel I suppose, but it's really shocking and sickening that we're in 2013 and there's still so little diversity, everything whitebread and that's with two terms of a black president.
It's a big year for black cinema and you have that Indian American girl winning Miss America, so maybe there will be some slow subtle changes.
|by Anonymous||reply 34||09/16/2013|
Fassbender would be a great candidate with two films out this fall, but I think he's too serious of an actor for People's taste. Cavill would be a fantastic choice. Superman was a big hit, and he's filming Man from UNCLE right now.
If it's not either one of these guys, the selection will pale in comparison.
|by Anonymous||reply 35||09/16/2013|
|by Anonymous||reply 36||09/16/2013|
My money's on Hemsworth (Thor).
|by Anonymous||reply 37||09/16/2013|
|by Anonymous||reply 38||09/16/2013|
[quote]I think they will pick Matt Bomer
The title called "Sexiest Man Alive"...Matt Bomer doesn't look alive.
|by Anonymous||reply 39||09/16/2013|
Hunnam, but only after a shave and a haircut.
|by Anonymous||reply 40||09/16/2013|
Not only is that alive, I bet he's doing jazz hands.
|by Anonymous||reply 41||09/16/2013|
Shamelessly lobbying by appearing shirtless at every opportunity, surely Vladimir Putin has to be considered a contender.
|by Anonymous||reply 42||09/16/2013|
Yeah R34, but could they put in there? Idris Elba? chiwetel ejiofor? 90% of America would go "who?"
What man of color is sexy and also is famous and/or has a lot of heat on him right now? It's slim pickings.
|by Anonymous||reply 43||09/16/2013|
May your hands fall off before you can type another letter, R42.
|by Anonymous||reply 44||09/16/2013|
Bomer would be great. A gay sexiest man alive. How times will have changed.
|by Anonymous||reply 45||09/16/2013|
Bomer would be a great choice as the first Gay Sexiest Man Alive, but I think there are still some narrow-minded readers who would not be happy with him getting the cover. I also don't think that Bomer is as well-known internationally as past cover boys.
I think Fassbender or Cumberbatch will get it. They both have huge fan bases globally and several films coming out in the next few months.
|by Anonymous||reply 46||10/22/2013|
Is there really any doubt it'll be Cavill?
|by Anonymous||reply 47||10/22/2013|
I like R40's idea, but the real "Sexiest Man Alive 2013" is Steven R. McQueen.
Has Zac ever won this?
|by Anonymous||reply 48||10/22/2013|
R48, one doesn't win this: one is named.
|by Anonymous||reply 49||10/22/2013|
|by Anonymous||reply 50||10/22/2013|
Cavill has two big Warner Bros films coming out so he'd be a prime candidate, if he'd agree to it. Remember Ryan Reynolds was chosen because he was starring in WB's Green Lantern.
|by Anonymous||reply 51||10/22/2013|
Probably will be Cavill. I think Fassbender and Cumberbatch are both on the cusp of being general pop culture fodder, rather than actively a part of it. Sexiest Man Alive is usually given to someone already established, rather than someone truly rising. Say what you want about MOS and Cavill, but most everyone is aware of him now.
|by Anonymous||reply 52||10/22/2013|
Chris Hemsworth would make sense too, though.
|by Anonymous||reply 53||10/22/2013|
|by Anonymous||reply 54||10/22/2013|
|by Anonymous||reply 55||10/22/2013|
R51? Neither movie is coming out soon. He hasn't even started filming on Batman-Superman, and that won't be out until 2015.
|by Anonymous||reply 56||10/22/2013|
[quote]Cavill has two big Warner Bros films coming out so he'd be a prime candidate, if he'd agree to it.
If he'd agree to it? He'd jump at it. After that Cuoco thing, pretty clear the guy wants fame on a global scale, but at least him being chosen would aesthetically make sense because he's gorgeous.
|by Anonymous||reply 57||10/22/2013|
It's going to be somebody who has a movie coming out around the time of the issue.
Michael Fassbender in The Counselor (October 25) [Also in 12 Years a Slave]
Chris Hemsworth in Thor (November 8)
Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf of Wall Street (November 15)
Idris Elba in Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom (November 29)
Matthew McConaughey in Dallas Buyers Club (December 6) [Also in The Wolf of Wall Street]
Christian Bale in Out of the Furnace (December 6) and American Hustle (December 13)
|by Anonymous||reply 58||10/22/2013|
Most of those guys are serious actors and probably don't want it (and probably have been offered it before).
Hemsworth is cheesy enough to need it.
|by Anonymous||reply 59||10/22/2013|
Please not a Hemsworth. They're so generic-looking, it's hard to believe they weren't spit out of a computer.
Casey Affleck is also in Out of the Furnace. I'd sooner see him "named" (thanks R49--I owe you one) over most of the names I'm reading here today. TBT, I'd rather see Casey Affleck in anything than his talent-free brother.
|by Anonymous||reply 60||10/22/2013|
I also think that Chris Hemsworth is at the top of the list of contenders. He's well established now in both blockbusters and serious fare. Fassbender, though truly one of THE sexiest in the industry, is too controversial an actor and lacks mainstream appeal. Cavill may have the success of MOS behind him, but he doesn't have the name recognition. I think a lot of people just refer to him as the guy who played Superman. For some reason, I think Idris Elba is at the top of the list also. He's been on the cover of quite a few major publications. He's done Pacific Rim, Thor 2 and has the Mandela movie coming out. Sorry but I don't think that Joe Manganiello has a snowball's chance in hell this year. His career has just stalled. I doubt he'll even be featured inside it.
|by Anonymous||reply 61||10/22/2013|
I hope it's Obama just to piss off people.
Let's also keep in mind that sexy and handsome don't always go hand-in-hand.
|by Anonymous||reply 62||10/22/2013|
Idris Elba because It's Time, but Chris Hemsworth to play it safe.
|by Anonymous||reply 63||10/22/2013|
The idiot white fraus won't tolerate Idris being chosen. They want their bland!
|by Anonymous||reply 64||10/22/2013|
[quote] Sorry but I don't think that Joe Manganiello has a snowball's chance in hell this year. His career has just stalled. I doubt he'll even be featured inside it.
Kiss my ass!
|by Anonymous||reply 65||10/22/2013|
Like usual, they will choose someone who appeals to a wider demographic, that is certainly not the self-indulge "I say him because it makes me feel/seem badass" choices like Idris Elba or Fassbender.
|by Anonymous||reply 66||10/23/2013|
R63: "Idris Elba because It's Time"
Is It's Time a film he's in?
|by Anonymous||reply 67||10/23/2013|
Eeeewwww to Hemsworth. He looks like an albino gorilla with is beady eyes and flaring nostrils. Plus he has skinny legs.
|by Anonymous||reply 68||10/23/2013|
There is no obvious choice as it has been these last few years. Channing Tatum was having a good year last year. Bradley Cooper was popular the year before (moreso Ryan Gosling, who it's been said had turned it down)
They may just play it safe and choose a popular previous winner for a second time:
|by Anonymous||reply 69||10/23/2013|
Danny Pino and his thick, spicy wedge of Cuban pinga with tight foreskin.
|by Anonymous||reply 70||10/23/2013|
R69, I though that the winner not only has to be popular but also have very recent career success. Jackman, Depp and Damon have all flopped at the summer box office and Affleck is one of the least popular actors in the industry right about now.
|by Anonymous||reply 71||10/23/2013|
Does it have to be an actor?
|by Anonymous||reply 72||10/23/2013|
R72, it's been an actor every year but 1988, when it was JFK, Jr. Here's the list:
|by Anonymous||reply 73||10/23/2013|
I can only think of two entertainers, who have worldwide appeal and also had a good year career-wise:
Jake Gyllenhaal Justin Timberlake
|by Anonymous||reply 74||11/09/2013|
Does anyone know when this is going to be announced? Last year they announced it by Nov 16.
|by Anonymous||reply 75||11/13/2013|
r74, Timberlake had a HUGE flop film just a few weeks ago.
|by Anonymous||reply 76||11/13/2013|
The guy is going to get the title one day
|by Anonymous||reply 77||11/13/2013|
The issue will be out Nov 22nd, so they should announce it next week.
|by Anonymous||reply 78||11/14/2013|
I wonder if that link is foreshadowing [bold]Nick Jonas[/bold]' selection as 2013's Sexiest Man.
I could see it going to [bold]Zac Efron[/bold] or [bold]Jon Hamm[/bold], as well. Or a CBMS (Comic Book Movie Star) could grab it.
|by Anonymous||reply 79||11/14/2013|
Jon Hamm is a good guess. And older actors fit People's demographic. But they never choose TV actors.
Zac Efron is too young.
I think it will be Cavill because he has a big Warner Bros movie to headline next year, Man from UNCLE, and the studio will want to build awareness of him. The same thing happened with Ryan Reynolds when he was chosen prior to a Green Lantern's release.
|by Anonymous||reply 80||11/14/2013|
Yes R76, but aren't these things decided way in advance?
I would be shocked if it was Jon Hamm. For all the online fuss about him, Mad Men isn't exactly a ratings bonanza.
|by Anonymous||reply 81||11/14/2013|
Timberlake wouldn't have been chosen after the Runner Runner debacle.
|by Anonymous||reply 82||11/14/2013|
r80, back in the 80s, they did choose 2 TV actors: Mark Harmon and Harry Hamlin. Since then, however, with the exception of JFK Jr., it's been all movie stars.
|by Anonymous||reply 83||11/14/2013|
GossipCop is claiming it's going to be Adam Levine. They broke the news last year that it would be Channing Tatum.
|by Anonymous||reply 84||11/14/2013|
If it's Levine I can only imagine that he must have been way down on the list of people they offered it to, and everybody else above him turned it down.
I think the People magazine demographic would find him icky.
|by Anonymous||reply 85||11/14/2013|
I disagree, r85. Levine's music is a staple of Adult Contemporary and middle-aged fraus love The Voice.
|by Anonymous||reply 86||11/14/2013|
Adam Levine over, Henry Cavill, the new Superman?
|by Anonymous||reply 87||11/14/2013|
He's boring, R87. And I don't mean Adam.
|by Anonymous||reply 88||11/14/2013|
|by Anonymous||reply 89||11/15/2013|
Levine and CAvill are BOTH boring. And not sexy.
