Definitely "Blue" but really, they're all pretty fucking great.

Court and Spark - yes, the "accessible" album.

[quote]Court and Spark - yes, the "accessible" album.

Yes, for me too. But lyrically, like Bob Dylan and Scott Walker, it's all poetry.

Another vote for Court and Spark. I have to be in a very specific mood to enjoy Blue, while C&S is appropriate listening just about any time. Her other albums are more hit & miss.

It's impossible to pick, OP.

Everything from Blue to Hejira is a 10 in my book.

The Hissing of Summer Lawns is probably my very favorite, but "Amelia" and "Hejira" are masterful songs.

Even Don Juan's Reckless Daughter and Mingus worked for me.

1. Hejira

2. Mingus

3. Ladies of the Canyon

4. The Hissing of Summer Lawns

5. Don Juan's Reckless Daughter

6. Blue

7. For the Roses

8. Clouds

9. Court and Spark

There's just no other way to list them, is there?

by Anonymousreply 909/06/2013

Eh, I would put Clouds and Ladies lower.

And just b/c Court and Spark is accessible doesn't make it bad.

Unfortunately from 1980 on Joni's albums have been hit or miss. All have memorable songs on them but few have back to back gems like the 70s work.

The one with "Woodstock", What is it called again?

by Anonymousreply 1109/06/2013

R11 It's called "Lebanese, Blanche!"
