Does anyone here have satellite Internet service?

Which service do you use? What are the positives and negatives of the various services?

Note: Note this does not apply to NYC queens who have an antennae out their hole to pick up Grindr.

Do you have to order satellite Internet service through NASA?

I've seen ads for it but don't know anyone who has tried it.

OP, that second comment will do you no favors.

It's fabulous. I can even pick up signals from Uranus.

Considering OP's second statement, I say a ww for R6.

It's better than dial-up.

Since satellite bandwidth is shared, you will most likely be restricted by a "Fair Access Policy."

If I exceed my monthly download limit, my service will be cut until the beginning of the next billing cycle.

If I am careful to monitor my downloads, and I need extra gBs, I can pay for them - but only in advance. Once my access has been cranked down, I'm out of the game for the remainder of the billing cycle.

My service (Wildblue) does permit unlimited downloads between midnight and 6am, so that's when I'll grab any porn or watch an episode of "Orange is the New Black."

I had HughesNet for a few years, and it was AWFUL. I believe that they recently launched a satellite, so they may be better now. DirecTV is offering satellite Internet, and they offer bundled service with Internet, telephone, and TV programming.

Do they attach a big dish to the side of your house?

by Anonymousreply 909/03/2013

It's very expensive and really only practical for people who live in rural areas who don't have access to DSL or cable broadband.

If I weren't under contract, I would switch to exede for the sake of their advertisements.

Bravo, Brian!!
