Could he be?
Is Robin Thicke gay?
|by Anonymous||reply 50||10/22/2013|
He swings back and forth
|by Anonymous||reply 1||08/28/2013|
Of course he could be, but it seems like a stretch.
I don't want him to be. I find him repulsive on just about every level. I'm so sick of hearing about him. Miley is getting all the flack, but he's a 36 year old man letting a 20 year old grind on him and singing that he knows she wants it. Gross. And blurred lines is a misogynist piece of rape-culture crap AND another bullshit white appropriation of black culture/ripoff of music that was 10x better 30 years ago.
He can't go away fast enough.
|by Anonymous||reply 2||08/28/2013|
R2, could not agree more. I loved the song UNTIL I gave the lyrics a good listen. And, holy shit is it bad. Vulgar, misogynistic rape-culture crap. It is rape porn, of a sort. That sounds histrionic but listen to the lyrics. The thing is, the tune (which is a Marvin Gaye rip-off) is familiar and the lyrics are sort of hard to understand so they have flown under the radar.
And, no, I don't think he is gay.

I like it when my hair's fluffy
|by Anonymous||reply 4||08/28/2013|
We sent him a toaster when we recruited him.
|by Anonymous||reply 5||08/28/2013|
"Vulgar, misogynistic rape-culture crap. It is rape porn, of a sort."
I disagree strongly with your point of view, R3.
And I am a woman.
|by Anonymous||reply 6||08/28/2013|
He's a massive pussyhound just like his dear old dad.
|by Anonymous||reply 7||08/28/2013|
Well at least it took him relatively long to get this thread, which says a lot.
I'm a fan of him or the music (there always was an air of douche, really) but god that VMA thing was cringeworthy. Talk about ruining your moment.
It would be better off if he wasn't there, as well as destroying his mystique it's super youth targetted now.
Even Timberlake looked like an old man and while people his age and older were at the VMAs before he isn't a Jacko or Vadge. The fact he came out of nowhere to the mainstream makes it all look awkward. Like a pervy old Uncle on the karaoke and a one hit wonder. I don't know if Thicke (what's that "e" for? I keep pronouncing it as Thicky) is fat, but he didn't look his best or that good for his age.
Anyway MTV were on crack to give that made up "song of the summer" award to One Direction. I'm sure even they were uncomfortable accepting that as everyone knows it's Blurred Lines.
|by Anonymous||reply 8||08/28/2013|
He's straight but I bet he's had his dick sucked by a guy, at least once!
|by Anonymous||reply 9||08/28/2013|
r2 and r3 are fraus. R8 nailed it so I am closing this thread.
|by Anonymous||reply 10||08/29/2013|
R8, you keep pronouncing it "Thicky?" Really? LOLOL Well, that says it all right there. You are an unmitigated idiot and your post indicates as much.
"Super youth targeted" means that youth are ALSO idiots and need guidance. They think they know everything and know nothing. They are the ones who earn Darwin awards. They NEED role models. If YOU are a "super youth" or support what Miley Cyrus did, then you also need guidance and role models.
|by Anonymous||reply 11||08/29/2013|
He's fat, so he couldn't possibly be gay.
|by Anonymous||reply 12||08/29/2013|
[quote] but he's a 36 year old man letting a 20 year old grind on him and singing that he knows she wants it.
And when Madonna does that same thing, is the same outrage?
She a 55 year old female letting a 20 year old dude grind on her and singing that she knows he wants it.
|by Anonymous||reply 13||08/29/2013|
U need to be thinner than Ghandi to be accepted as gay these days.
|by Anonymous||reply 14||08/29/2013|
1. Obviously, he isn't. He's been with Paula Patton since they were 14, or something like that.
2. Thankfully, he isn't. We have more than enough with one whiny-voiced, cocky, brain dead tosser who is far too impressed with his absolute lack of talent - Justin Timberlake. We really, really, REALLY don't need another one. Plus, he's even grimier looking that Timberlake, which is saying a lot.
Personally, I agree with R2 - he is just disgusting and his "music" is utter and complete rubbish.
|by Anonymous||reply 15||08/29/2013|
I have managed to avoid his music, but if R3 says it is ""Vulgar, misogynistic rape-culture crap. It is rape porn, of a sort," I believe R3 and I am sick of that crap.
|by Anonymous||reply 16||08/29/2013|
I know he and Paula Patton have been together since puberty, but does anyone believe he has been faithful to her? I get the impression that she tells herself and others that she's cool with it (and his lame model-grinding in the video, etc) so she won't lose him, but I doubt very much that she's ok with it.
He just reeks of being a complete asshole.
|by Anonymous||reply 17||08/29/2013|
He is not whiny-voiced. I own that!
|by Anonymous||reply 18||08/29/2013|
@R12 so is Elton John.
|by Anonymous||reply 19||08/29/2013|
|by Anonymous||reply 20||08/29/2013|
[quote]And when Madonna does that same thing, is the same outrage?
The comparison I was making was between Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke. I was pointing out the double standard between men and women's sexual expression...so bringing Madonna into the mix makes no sense whatsoever.
And YES, moron, Madonna got ALL the same flak; for "Like a Virgin", "Justify My Love", "Sex" and a whole lot more, except it was all 20+ years ago and she was a mature woman staking claim to her sexual empowerment, NOT a dumb just-turned-20-year-old NOR a middle-aged lech. There's an obvious difference in power dynamic between a barely legal, half-naked girl grinding on a fully dressed man nearly twice her age, and a full grown dominatrix commanding her coterie of boy toys. One perpetuates male dominance, the other subverts it.
You actually proved my point, but you're too fucking dumb to realize it.
|by Anonymous||reply 21||08/29/2013|
|by Anonymous||reply 22||08/29/2013|
Robin really ticks off all the pious fraus! Guess what, ladies? Straight men prefer 20 year old girls over your haggy selves.
|by Anonymous||reply 23||08/29/2013|
I wish Robin was gay, he would be very welcome in the gay community, because he does support his gays.
|by Anonymous||reply 24||08/29/2013|
[quote]You are an unmitigated idiot and your post indicates as much.
Well if you say so, dear. Forgive me but I didn't realise pronounication of names was child's play. How you read things and how they're said are two different things. I bet you could pronounce Saorise and Quvenzhané at the drop of a hat without being told. Thicke has an e at the end like Beyonce without the accent, so that's how I READ it.
Since you used unmitigated in that context with a straight face and given the tone of your post then I would conclude you are an uptight pearl clutching cunt of epic proportions. Also nowhere in my post did I mention Cyrus or her antics and I even said I was cringeing at Thicke, so this shows you are as thicke as pigshit.

Because he isn't and his mom isn't
|by Anonymous||reply 28||09/01/2013|
Who the fuck cares about this wigger. I hope Marvin Gaye's family wins their lawsuit since this fucker STOLE from Gaye by sampling one of his songs for that horrid Blurred Lines.
|by Anonymous||reply 29||09/01/2013|
In Eddie Fisher's biography he mentioned that he knew her father and her father was Jewish
|by Anonymous||reply 30||09/02/2013|
OP, there is no reason to believe such a thing.

"I know he and Paula Patton have been together since puberty"
|by Anonymous||reply 33||09/03/2013|
I have never heard more than five seconds of the song on the radio because I change the station right away when it comes on (terrible derivative non-song).
But I went just now to read the lyrics because I couldn't believe a song promoting rape would be popular or acceptable.
R3, are you illiterate, or just stretching the definition of rape beyond all meaning? It's clearly a song about a guy appealing for casual sex with a woman who is attached to someone else. He makes all sorts of appeals to her sex drive, to persuade her that she is wild and wants to be free and have casual, rough, no-strings-attached sex with him / them. Is it rough sex you equate with rape? The lyrics appeal to the woman being sung to with the pleasure of rough sex. Plenty of women like rough sex. There's this little 50 Shades book series that belies the fact that some women like domination in bed.
Don't let your appetite for outrage outpace your capacity to read and reason.
|by Anonymous||reply 34||09/03/2013|
R34, look up the meaning of "belie." It means the opposite of what you think it does.
|by Anonymous||reply 35||09/03/2013|
R34, you obviously haven't let your lack of command of the English language keep you from bloviating all over the place. Your semi-literate post belies the fact that you are a plebian. Are you a paid publicist for Sir Robin of Thicke? (which would describe his brainpower, moreso than his penis)?
Rape is an act of aggression, of violence. And, of course, you cannot rape the willing. But no one wants that aggressive sexual play bullshit unless they are into it and that is wholly subjective. "Rough" sex is close enough to rape to make many people uncomfortable. A song objectifying this with a wink, wink, that encourages horny men to be predatory, vulgar, pushy, obnoxious and insulting to women is not on the playlist for people with taste.

[quote] Your semi-literate post belies the fact that you are a plebian.
Look up the meaning of "belie." It means the exact opposite of what you think it does. Oh, and learn to spell "plebeian" before embarrassing yourself again.
|by Anonymous||reply 37||09/04/2013|
I used belie quite correctly.
OK, let me try this again. Your semi-literate post indicated that you at least had SOME valid points, SOME understanding of the connection of the song lyrics to rape, to celebrating those behaviors that lead to rape even though you defended the lyrics as having nothing whatsoever to do with encouraging rape. Unfortunately, completely misusing the word "belie" in your post negated and contradicted the post's effectiveness, said misuse revealing a plebeian intellect.
My misspelling of plebeian (in my rejoinder) puts me on a par with that prior poster, though, thereby rendering MY post as anodyne and ineffectual, with a woeful irony that has served as a denouement.
|by Anonymous||reply 38||09/04/2013|
Tout le monde a une opinion.
|by Anonymous||reply 39||09/04/2013|
You meant to say "confirms/validates the fact that you are a [plebeian]. Or: "demonstrates that you are a plebeian."
"Belie" means the exact opposite. Stop using words you don't understand just because you've read or heard them somewhere.
|by Anonymous||reply 40||09/04/2013|
[quote]"Your semi-literate post contradicts the fact that you are a plebeian."
Does that make sense to you? Because that's really what you wrote.
|by Anonymous||reply 41||09/04/2013|
R40, that is NOT what I meant. Nope. His semi-literate post was at least SOMEWHAT LITERATE. Semi-literacy is better than illiteracy. It has SOME validation.
Misusing the word "belie" BELIED (contradicted) even the SEMI-literacy.
Now go look up "irony."
|by Anonymous||reply 42||09/04/2013|
Have no idea if Robin Thicke is gay and really, do not care.
However I do know he is a perfectly awful pop song artist.
Of this I am absolutely certain!
|by Anonymous||reply 43||09/04/2013|
Not gay but he & Paula have an open relationship.
That pic of RT and the gorgeous blonde woman? Paula wanted RT to fuck her so she could watch.

A really idiotic word salad, with each sentence flirting with a line of argument before abandoning it.
Why even break it down?
You are ridiculous and probably have bad taste. The song is (intentionally) crass, amoral, and filthy, but has nothing to do with rape, or the risible non-idea of "rape culture." Stick to the Jezebel comments section, you bore us here.
And yes I said belies when I meant betrays. OOPS.
|by Anonymous||reply 45||09/04/2013|
What is going on in this thread?! So many bizarre posts and lots of self-righteous frau outrage. This is a thread set up to discuss whether Robin is gay or not. It is not a place for (bourgeois) feminist diatribes about "rape culture." Move it along, ladies.
|by Anonymous||reply 46||09/05/2013|
What a ridiculous question.
|by Anonymous||reply 47||10/22/2013|
His dad always pinged. Just sayin'
|by Anonymous||reply 48||10/22/2013|
There was a blind item guessed to be him and his wife in which they said they have an open marriage, both are bi, and she was showing a growing preference for women.
