Helen Keller - Anne Frank - Deanie Loomis - What was Melissa Gilbert best performance in a remake of a film?

During her hiatus from Little House, she made one TV movie a year.

She and her mom founded their own production company Half-Pint productions. And they produced

1979 The Miracle Worker

1980 The Diary of Anne Frank

1981 Splendor in the Grass

So which was Missy best remake performance?

by Anonymousreply 4101/24/2014

Poor Missy G. Never the pretty one, she had to get attention by repeating other people's famous roles instead.

by Anonymousreply 108/27/2013

Certainly not THE MIRACLE WORKER. She was no Patty Duke.

And Patty Duke - playing Annie Sullivan that time - was no Anne Bancroft. They should have left well enough alone.

And don't get me started on that awful Disney version with Hallie Eisenberg as Helen.

by Anonymousreply 208/27/2013

Never go full Helen Keller.

by Anonymousreply 308/27/2013

R2, leave the GOLDEN Patty Duke out of this! You are a damn BITCH, who needs to shave her pussy, or take the high road!

by Anonymousreply 408/27/2013

The tragic thing about Melissa Gilbert is the surgical remake of her face. She was far too young to go under the knife. She looks like a Joan Rivers nightmare, poor girl. She had a cuteness about her that has forever disappeared. She became a waxy, stretched Plastic Surgery Clone. It's a shame her self-esteem was that low that she couldn't leave well enough alone.

by Anonymousreply 508/27/2013

R5=dramatic bitch, who needs to quit posting long ass shit to threads that don't make a difference!

by Anonymousreply 608/27/2013

Both Melissa's (Anderson & Gilbert) have been nominated for Prime-Time Emmys

Only Melissa Sue has an Emmy on her shelf. She made sure a picture of her Emmy was in her autobiography.

by Anonymousreply 708/27/2013

MG got to bang Rob Lowe and Bruce Boxleitner so she wins.

by Anonymousreply 808/27/2013

I would totally let her co-star Cyril O'Reilly do me anally in the pron parody, "Splendor In My Ass".

by Anonymousreply 908/27/2013

According to Gilbert's autobiography she also banged Cyril O'Reilly

by Anonymousreply 1008/27/2013

R10 Oh, please-- who hasn't?

by Anonymousreply 1108/27/2013

Well, if I had to pick one it would be HK. The less said about AF the better. And she didn't even register as Deanie.

Thank God she never got around to remaking Sophie's Choice.

by Anonymousreply 1208/27/2013

[quote]Well, if I had to pick one it would be HK

But she didn't even have any dialogue.

by Anonymousreply 1308/27/2013

She sucked in them ALL. She was "Half-Pint" in all of them.

by Anonymousreply 1408/27/2013

R14 she was Emmy nominated for The Miracle Worker.

by Anonymousreply 1508/27/2013

What did Melissa Sue win for?

Poor Patty Duke. Her first Emmy win was marred by a manic episode, then when she won a second time, she was forced to not attend to receive it.

by Anonymousreply 1608/27/2013

R15, a lot of truly terrible performances have been Emmy-nominated.

by Anonymousreply 1708/27/2013

R16 her second Emmy was for 'Captain & The Kings'

That time she was in control and gave a great speech.

Miracle Worker was Emmy #3

by Anonymousreply 1808/27/2013

According to IMDB, Melissa Gilbert was nominated for and Emmy for The Miracle Worker but didn't win. In fact, she has won NO Emmys at all.

by Anonymousreply 1908/27/2013

you are right. r18 do u have a transcript or video of the second speech? The first you can see on YouTube but I only saw the second speech when it happened live. And, I don't remember it.

by Anonymousreply 2008/27/2013

Melissa should have been nominated in the best supporting category (for the Miracle Worker) and maybe she would have won. But either she or her mom was too confident which backfired on them.

by Anonymousreply 2108/27/2013

by Anonymousreply 2208/28/2013

One of her best roles was as a nun in Choices of the Heart

by Anonymousreply 2308/28/2013

I finally saw the Duke/Gilbert MIRACLE WORKER recently on DVD. Duke played Annie Sullivan like The Little Engine That Could - nowhere near the emotonal depth that Bancroft provided in the role. I can't believe Duke won a Emmy - must have been a very lean year.

Gilbert starts out OK, but then almost fades into the background. This version was much too polite - the movie has a rawness that overcomes the deficiencies in the writing.

by Anonymousreply 2408/28/2013

[quote] must have been a very lean year.

The other nominees

Haywire: Lee Remick (CBS)

The Miracle Worker: Melissa Gilbert (NBC)

White Mama: Bette Davis (CBS)

by Anonymousreply 2508/28/2013

Lee Remick should have won then. Her Margaret Sullavan was a far better performance than Duke's prairie schoolmarm rendition of Annie Sullivan.

by Anonymousreply 2608/28/2013

Maybe Remick and Davis split the vote and allowed Duke to come up the middle.

That Emmy is Patty's favorite acting award, more than the Oscar.

by Anonymousreply 2708/28/2013

Anne Bancroft according to Patty Duke love her performance as Annie Sullivan.

by Anonymousreply 2808/28/2013

I've seen only her version of The Anne Frank Diary and I've been traumatized ever since. She was so cringeworthy, that I actually rooted for the nazis.

by Anonymousreply 2908/28/2013

Patty Duke talks about telling Anne Bancroft about playing the part of Annie Sullivan

See link below, go to 5:00

by Anonymousreply 3008/28/2013

Oh honey, I was just being kind.

Poor Patty's film career kind of went phffft in the 60's.

by Anonymousreply 3108/28/2013

R13 yes. I know. that's why it was the superior performance.

by Anonymousreply 3208/28/2013

I'm assuming this was taped before she went on meds?

by Anonymousreply 3308/28/2013

R31 must own a VHS of "Billie."

by Anonymousreply 3408/28/2013

by Anonymousreply 3508/31/2013

NONE of them; she's a rotten actress.

by Anonymousreply 3608/31/2013

bump missing Melissa from TV

by Anonymousreply 3709/08/2013

When reached for comment, Melissa's ex-husband Bruce Boxleitner said "well, she does have that shit-bra workout video in the works. That may finally get her a nest egg."

by Anonymousreply 3809/08/2013

Bump for more!

by Anonymousreply 3901/24/2014

Melissa's "Splendor In The Grass" was totally stolen by Michelle Pfeiffer as Bud's slutty sister. You could really tell the difference between a forever-television star (Melissa) and a potential movie star (Michelle).
