So many overly tanned stripper-ish women and dude bros. did I pick the wrong time to come or is it always like this?
My first time in Vegas right now

Have you never heard of Vegas before? Or did the mothership just beam you directly down with no pre-briefing?
|by Anonymous||reply 1||08/26/2013|
Las Vegas is a shit hole. Good.

OP at Disney World: "So many families with small children! Is it always like this?"
OP in London: "They drive on the wrong side of the road! Plus everyone speaks with snooty accents"
OP in LA: "I keep seeing TV and movie stars. Is there some kind of convention going on in this wacky town?"
OP at the beach: "Ugh, I hate it here! It's so wet, the sun is just beating down on me and there's sand everywhere!"

I think the first time you go it's easy to be unprepared for how cheesy so many people there look, with the overtanned skin, the tight clothing, and the platform wedgies.
It's best to think of the Strip as a permanent and very deluxe version of a state fair, with all the tacky people wanting to swarm and spend money.

Just hang out at the pool. You will be safe there.
|by Anonymous||reply 5||08/26/2013|
I also recommend checking out the really highly rated restauants at Bellagio's. They're incredibly expensive, but the best of them are fantastic.

The snark never fails here. Ha!
I don't really know what I expected in terms of people. Of course I'm familiar with stereotypes of Vegas as being a place where go expecting a miracle and end up drunk and broke. But most of my "knowledge" comes from movies which never show "regular" people like this. What can I say, this is my first time here.

You're in Vegas now and you came to DL to ask about the people there? Can we all say "MARY."
|by Anonymous||reply 8||08/26/2013|
I swear the swimming pools at the hotels along the Strip are to die for.
|by Anonymous||reply 9||08/26/2013|
Thanks R4. And your description of the fashion here was spot-on. I'm staying at the MGM Grand and nearly every woman walking around is obese or some sort of wannabe stripper. The guys are either huge or some kind of dude bro/MMA spectator type. Not hating on them; just an observation.
|by Anonymous||reply 10||08/26/2013|
R8, I'm bored, tired and waiting on my room. There's nothing else to do here right now besides eat, gamble, and buy shit. Aren't you happy I immediately thought of turning my attention to you all here on DL instead?
|by Anonymous||reply 11||08/26/2013|
R4's description of Vegas as a deluxe version of a state fair is brillian.

Vegas is not really a great place for gay people honestly. It excels as a popular party place for a certain type of straight person.
There is a reason they are doing that campaign to attract gays to Vegas, it isn't a big gay tourism spot.
It is only works as a playground of the truly rich or trash who seeing the Paris casino is the closest they actually want to get to France.

ww for r3
|by Anonymous||reply 14||08/26/2013|
It's an assault on my sense of taste.
|by Anonymous||reply 15||08/26/2013|
Plenty of gays live and work in Vegas.
Walk up to a cute employee and ask him where the locals go for camaraderie. Be careful though: any off-strip location is a target for gay bashing.
Yes, you will never see so many bros in khaki shorts and MMA t-shirts anywhere else.
From what I hear: there is only a fraction of the gambling going on in the casinos. It's all a pool-bar-nightclub scene now and that means drunken fat/stripper-looking straights.
Vegas is all penis-in-vagina monkey sex with billowing back-boobs and fat hairy man-calves.

OP, play the drinking game with us: for every bro you see wearing a Tap Out T-shirt you must down a daiquiri at he Flamingo.

R11 -- exactly why I always bring along my e-reader!
|by Anonymous||reply 18||08/26/2013|
Fuck these $9 cocktails.
|by Anonymous||reply 19||08/26/2013|
The last time I was there, I was walking behind an amazingly fat couple waddling hand in hand down the sidewalk and with them walking together I literally didn't have room to pass them.
As I'm following them, she puts her arm around him and says, "Honey, who would ever have dreamed that someday you and I would be walking together down the Las Vegas Strip." I started to snicker, but she was just beaming with happiness, and I couldn't help but love them both.

OP, Only silly tourists pay high prices for drinks. Ask where you get the $1.50 beer on Flamingo, at the old time dive bar, and well-known gay hang out.
Check out the flowers at the Bellagio, and the fountains in front at night. Go to the upscale shops at Ceasars' Palace Forum Shops and at Fashion Show Mall. Ask the salesmen, such as those selling ladies shoes at Macy's, (don't shoot me, please) where to hang out too.

Is it easy to find (male) hookers there?
Are they cheap there because it's legal or are they as pricey as they are in New York?
|by Anonymous||reply 22||08/26/2013|
My mom says Las Vegas is full of sluts.
|by Anonymous||reply 23||08/26/2013|
R22 It's NOT legal.
|by Anonymous||reply 24||08/26/2013|
Vegas has the loosest sluts in the world, R23.
|by Anonymous||reply 25||08/26/2013|
LOL, R23 (and of course the exemplary R3!)
I thought prostitution was legal in Vegas, or at least just outside the city? What about the Bunny Ranch and places like that?
|by Anonymous||reply 26||08/27/2013|
I like the winter months in Vegas. A lot less of the Frat types and budget travelers.
|by Anonymous||reply 27||08/28/2013|
R26, The Bunny Ranch is in Pahrump, outside of the City of Vegas, not in Clark County, where the main Strip lies. There have been suggestions to make prostitution legal in either Downtown Las Vegas, or Las Blvd area, where the pricier casinos host customers. So far no luck.
Of course prostitution exists everywhere in NV. Just be very careful.
