Don't look now, but Gaga's comeback is flopping

It's sad.

I've only heard thirty seconds of the whole song anywhere. Radio seems to not be playing it.

And Gaga is asking her fans to buy multiple copies. Girl, what is someone going to do with multiple copies of a song? Give them away? In digital format?

So embarrassing but she did this all to herself by giving up a good thing -- her original, fun dance vibe. She must be on coke or something because she got too weird, too fast.

by Anonymousreply 19011/18/2013

Don't look now, but the anti-Gaga troll is starting multiple threads. Give it a rest, Madge.

by Anonymousreply 108/17/2013

She didn't "ask fans to buy multiple copies", OP.

She merely said that every proof of purchase provides one entry into a draw to win concert tickets.

If people choose to purchase multiple copies in order to receive multiple entries into the draw, well, there's nothing she can do about that, now is there?

by Anonymousreply 208/18/2013

[quote] So embarrassing but she did this all to herself by giving up a good thing -- her original, fun dance vibe.

I know, like how dare she try something new that challenges her as an artist. Every record she makes should be EXACTLY the same as the last, just like Britney and Katy Perry and Madonna post-2008.

by Anonymousreply 308/18/2013

I think Gaga should have waited to go public and just gone into the studio to prepare something really amazing. I think she is an enormously talented entertainer and walking around like a very eccentric normal person is stupid. Plus the other day, they showed a photo of her going out with some guy, and she was bare assed. Literally bare assed. Her ass was hanging out. She had no drawers on. She looked silly. The shock value is gone.

by Anonymousreply 408/18/2013

Just because the first single isn't great, that doesn't mean the whole album will suck. I'm sure she has a good single coming up.

by Anonymousreply 508/18/2013

r5 I've found that to be the case.

by Anonymousreply 608/18/2013

If the music video is good (Coreography, Imagery, Fashion) followed by a flawless VMA performance at the end of next week. Then Gaga could officially have a comeback. Music Videos and Live perfomance have saved alot of careers from time to time. However, the song is a little David Bowie Redux. Plus the sound of the song really isn't appealing to all taste. Goth, New Wave, EDM, & Pop all rolled into one. I'm still a GAGA fan though she is a crazy talented bitch! But right now I have to admit she's sinking a bit.

Maybe she should stick to her classic Pop style and maybe add some R&B to her element?!

by Anonymousreply 708/18/2013

And yes [R6] . Justin's " Take Back The Night" sounds like a luke warm Michael Jackson track!

by Anonymousreply 808/18/2013

She's over. Death throes. Totally over and a joke and I couldn't be happier since the bitch went through her gothic tweek phase she became a junkie went to rehab under the guise of a hip issue.

by Anonymousreply 1908/18/2013

The hype for this single was offensive. And now that it has come out and it is basically forgettable performance and some pretty shitty production, she has egg on her face. The girl is over.

by Anonymousreply 2008/18/2013

She should've kept it simple. Not all this PR crap she's been doing for months. I see her bombing big time. I guess copying Madonna's career only takes you so far. Next she will turn into a lesbian and after that some spiritual yoga nonsense. I wonder which religion she chooses?

I have no use for "Lady Gaga" or Madonna or Janet or any of them.

But I'll admit it's total fun seeing the rabid drooling of a couple of her dedicated fans here on Datalounge and seeing immediate, scornful rebuttals to the "anti Gaga troll" anytime anyone posts unflattering news or commentary about her.

It's amazing how people, especially here adore and worship and follow fakes and frauds and millionaires like they're martyrs for the world. It really does speak to the condition of the lives of so many I think.

Mariah's eighteen number ones are going to be a harder record to topple, though. But Rhianna is giving everyone else a serious run for their money!

by Anonymousreply 3508/18/2013

The reason radio stations haven't be playing it is because her radio deal does not start until August 19, which was the original release date. There are some radio stations who have added the song and are playing it, but most haven't. Expect to hear it more after she drops the video Monday and performs at the VMAs.

by Anonymousreply 3608/18/2013

You're wrong R36. Her radio deal already happened last Monday when Applause was played on top of each hour. You're referring to the official add date. Most big stations that contribute massively to the charts have already added it. There won't be any more radio deals. Face it, Applause has flopped. Katy Perry, with no promo whatsoever, has trashed Gaga to the ground. The music video may bring back so,e hype but then so will Katy's. Katy Perry, most unfortunately, is the public's chosen Queen of Pop. They like silly boring stuff with nothing exciting sprinkled on top of pop songs.

by Anonymousreply 3708/18/2013

[quote]If the music video is good (Coreography, Imagery, Fashion) followed by a flawless VMA performance at the end of next week. Then Gaga could officially have a comeback. Music Videos and Live perfomance have saved alot of careers from time to time.

THIS is how you debut a new song to the world.

Made the nightly news all over the world.

by Anonymousreply 3808/18/2013

R38 = Pathetic Vadge stan.

No one outside of Europe even remembers that song, much less that average performance you linked to.

At least Gaga likes her fans.

by Anonymousreply 4008/18/2013

R38 Thank You, Madonna is THE Master, THE Queen!

by Anonymousreply 4108/18/2013

I dont want to sound superficial but I think its because she is just ugly to look at. At first the freakish outfits were interesting etc... but now that she has put that away for now and has let people see her real face, she is just unattractive. And that weird posture she has when standing without shes or anything just adds to her unattractive weirdness

by Anonymousreply 4208/18/2013

She should stick to catchy club bangers. That's what she's good at.

by Anonymousreply 4308/18/2013

[R38] Yas! And Gaga will have to do the same now next week. I remember when Madonna's "Hung Up" first came out on the radio and fans didn't fall in love with it quickly. That was until Madonna dropped the video following that EMA performance the following week. She received good press which equaled good buzz. That is what saved "Hung Up". Like I said, I hope Gaga's visuals and coreography for "Applause" are good enough to save the song's current slack.

by Anonymousreply 4408/18/2013

Applause is currently sitting at #7 on US iTunes, while Katy Perry's Roar is still at #1. Ouch.

by Anonymousreply 5308/18/2013

It's obvious that Gaga has studied Madonna's every move.

Unfortunately, the student is still not as skilled as the master.

Boo hoo!!!

by Anonymousreply 5508/18/2013

Applause debuts at no. 5 in the UK. Apparently, it's not that much if a flop.

In other news, Perez Hilton was caught trying to stalk her in her apartment building and security escorted him out.

Perez claims he was just house hunting in NYC he is moving there to raise his child. Poor thing (the child not perez). He claims he did not know GAGA lived there. Yeah right. WIFEY? He was being a dick. ANd how the fuck can Perez Hilton afford an apartment in NYC in Gaga's building?

Do people still go to his site?

by Anonymousreply 5908/19/2013

She drew a MASSIVE crowd today in NYC for Good Morning America, and the video is good. Her VMA performance will put the track over the top, if today's GMA appearance hasn't already done so.

by Anonymousreply 6008/19/2013

Oh please, this whole Perez vs Gaga feud is merely publicity for Gaga. She thrives on being persecuted- it helps her fans identify with her.

by Anonymousreply 6108/19/2013

She's dropped to 17 on Amazon. This is not a good sign and it will end badly.

by Anonymousreply 6208/20/2013

I agree r61, and it's obvious, there's no way he didn't know where she lives. The bitch is sneaky, and I don't like it. She should be willing to sink or swim based on talent alone.

by Anonymousreply 6308/20/2013

Madonna has always been successful because she had mass appeal. Not just a niche market.

Lady Gaga is only appropriate in tired gay clubs with twinks who move from one fad to the next.

Let's face it, outside of a small gay audience, nobody really cares or listens to Lady Gaga.

Lady Gaga is just a temporary fix. Just like everything else 21 year old gays are in to at the moment.

by Anonymousreply 6408/20/2013

I just heard Applause on the radio and it's just not that catchy.

Katy Perry isn't going to be confused with Stephen Sondheim anytime soon, but at least her number is infectious and mass-marketable.

by Anonymousreply 10608/23/2013

Not surprising. Her diehard fans will lap up anything, but the rest of us who sort of liked her, only liked her when she got it right.

This song is to Gaga what "Die Another Day" was to Madonna. A calculated attempt at a "smart" sound but there's a chilly deadness to it. She forgot to make it enjoyable, fun, hooky, a song that people would get into. I listened to it once, then watched the video once, and I can't really remember how the song goes except I do recall it says "applause applause applause" a lot.

by Anonymousreply 12208/23/2013

Gaga has truly lost the plot. I mean, seriously, a song about Leatherface (aka Donatella Versace)?!?:

"Donatella, maybe she’s a bitch, maybe she’s too skinny, maybe she’s too rich, maybe she’s too out there. Or, maybe she’s brilliant, maybe she’s intelligent, maybe she’s strong, maybe she’s everything, maybe she’s Donatella."

"It’s about being a fearless female and not caring what people say about you – being proud of who you are and walking the walk no matter what."

I guarantee you, NOBODY thinks this way about Donatella. Hell, NOBODY thinks about Donatella, period, other than to comment on how grotesque she looks when we're forced to see her. The public will not relate to this song at all. Hell, Oprah would have been a better subject.

"They're not grateful anymore...It used to be a very unique and blessed experience to be able to experience theater and to go to see it and only the most highest-class people in Shakespearean times would be let into the theater and everyone else would have to watch it in the square. Nobody feels that way anymore. It's so easily accessible on the Internet it's treated like McDonald's, it's treated like trash...I'm not a French fry, I'm foie gras."

Lady Gaga on the plebes in a recent interview. I think she's taking that Lady title a bit too seriously.

by Anonymousreply 13908/28/2013

Dear Gaga's knowledge of "Shakespearean times" is very limited. "High-class" people weren't the only ones let in for performances. And "let in" is a silly concept for an outdoor theater such as the Globe, which held up to 3,000 people. Class had nothing to do with anything - as today, you got the spot you paid for. And while the groundlings standing paid the least, they also were close to the action on stage. Standing actually was the convention. There wasn't a square, Gaga. Quit pretending to understanding you haven't bothered to acquire.

by Anonymousreply 14008/28/2013

[quote]They're not grateful anymore...It used to be a very unique and blessed experience to be able to experience theater and to go to see it and only the most highest-class people in Shakespearean times would be let into the theater and everyone else would have to watch it in the square.

Wow, Gaga makes herself into a bigger idiot twice with this statement. One, Shakespeare wrote for the common people, not the elite. Second, she's basically being an elitist and saying only high-class people should see her shows because lower class people aren't grateful and don't treat it with respect?

Just who the fuck does Gaga think her audience is? It's certainly not the elite.

by Anonymousreply 14608/28/2013

Gaga is nothing more than a Guido trying to pretend that she is sophisticated and cultured. That bitch looks like a rejeceted cast member of Jersey Shore.

by Anonymousreply 14708/28/2013

I mean rejected.

Stumbled upon the "Applause" video today on YouTube. I'll give her this, it's kind of cool that she's not afraid to appear unattractive.

The song has absolutely no appeal whatsoever. "Bad Romance", while nothing special, at least had a melody to it. The lyrics to "Applause" aren't even lyrical. They sound ham-fisted, awkward, and pretentious. There are a few moments in the song where it resembles Ellie Goulding's wonderful "Lights" -- but those moments are fleeting, almost as if the songwriter/producers thought, "Hmm, should we? No, remember the 'Born This Way' fallout... Better not."

Lady Gaga really thinks a lot of herself, doesn't she? If something is truly art, it doesn't need to scream about how artful it is. The album is actually called 'ARTPOP'? Ker-snort.

The overall impression I'm getting about her is that she's not very bright, is truly delusional about her abilities and the significance of her output, and currently has some kind of drug-induced brain fatigue that has rendered her less capable than ever of putting out a worthwhile product.

Her fans, like the imbecilic, insufferable R70, seem to think music is all a numbers competition. Jesus god almighty. You people know NOTHING about music.

[quote]it's kind of cool that she's not afraid to appear unattractive.

Let's not pretend that she has the option of appearing attractive.

lol there's talk that Applause is a ripoff of Madonna's Girl Gone Wild. Here's a mashup:

by Anonymousreply 15109/01/2013

Is Gaga for real with this coke? I mean, quote?:

"To make ARTPOP there must be an exchange between two auras: one from the sphere of ART, and the other from the sphere of POP. This exchange must be of talent, not material or selfish, a moment of ‘giving’ between 2 forces who’ve agreed to put ART in the front."

Gaga tweeted that a couple of nights ago. Jeez, she really is up her own but isn't she? She really thinks she is an artiste and not a pop tart.

by Anonymousreply 15209/08/2013

R152 nails it - and that's the difference between her and Madge right there. Whatever you think of Madonna - she knows the business and her role in it better than Gaga

by Anonymousreply 15309/08/2013

Gaga will be fine

by Anonymousreply 15409/08/2013

She shouldn't have pissed me off!

Hey, at least she's got herself a very, very hot man. And a nice one to boot.

by Anonymousreply 15909/08/2013

What does he look like? Pics?

by Anonymousreply 16009/08/2013

The Applause video is spectacular.

Pity they didn't spend as much time on the music as the visuals.

Gage's boyfriend is named Taylor Kinney.

For pics, Google "Taylor Kinney model". He's hot.

Ummm....R157 what planet are you living on?

by Anonymousreply 16409/08/2013

Congrats, Gaga troll at R157 (and elsewhere), you have officially brought me to loath Gaga. And I liked her, I really did!

I suspect this is why her album sales have dropped so precipitously since the first - her little "monsters" (the ones that she has actively cultivated)) come across as irritating little shits that really only serve to drive people away from the lead attraction.

So please go watch Applause on YouTube 100 more times before you go to bed, k?

R165, you're rather impressionable, aren't you? Or are you just suffering from a chronic case of the preciouses, since you managed to shit yourself with that sad and impotent little "k"?

by Anonymousreply 16709/08/2013

I like her new song "Swine." I think it's about Perez Hilton!

by Anonymousreply 16809/08/2013

OK I just watched 'Applause' and 'Roar' on Vevo back to back. I'm neither a fab of, nor dislike, either of them, so here goes:

'Applause' may not be the greatest song ever but it's miles better than 'Roar.'

The 'Applause' video is great, held my attention but couldn't she have saved a couple of those ideas for another song?

When she writhed on the floor, Gaga appeared to have a strap-on.

by Anonymousreply 16909/08/2013

I looked it up, R163 and you're right! He's clearly with her for the money and exposure.

Taylor Kinney

And I usually don't like guys with girly/dainty noses but he's not bad.

In a 30 minute drive that Applause song was played at least 4 times (on different stations). I think it's starting to have some positive movement so I don't see it flopping.

R167 = Little monster, watching Applause for the 467th time.

by Anonymousreply 17509/09/2013

Don't say that! she might be clueless and ugly but don't kill her.

by Anonymousreply 17709/09/2013

Her drop-dead sexy ass boyfriend Taylor Kinney was the naked guy writhing around on top of her in the YOU & I video

by Anonymousreply 17809/09/2013

Can SOMEONE please explain what it means to be 'the Meryl Streep of music'? Whatever it means it sounds frumpy.

by Anonymousreply 17909/12/2013

Meanwhile Katy Perry is back at number 1 on the Hot 100..Gaga inching out of top ten

by Anonymousreply 18009/12/2013

"Applause" was not fun enough. Awkward song structure, a chilly not-fun minor key sound, and stupid narcissistic lyrics.

She has shown a past capability to create and put out much better pop music than that. We'll see if any of the rest of her new stuff is on par with Bad Romance or Telephone. Now those are examples of future-classic pop perfection, similar to how "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" is and will always be regarded as an 80s classic. But, years from now, next to no one will be playing Applause for any reason.

by Anonymousreply 18109/12/2013

Only the most taste-impaired people enjoy her tone deaf music.

by Anonymousreply 18209/12/2013

Question regarding Gaga's new release. They're projecting that she'll still hit #1 with about 250000 copies sold.

She apparently released her album on Monday which goes against what every other artist does (most release on Tuesday).

I'm just curious how this impacts sales. Does the extra day give her an advantage or do they somehow factor the extra day out of the sales charts?

by Anonymousreply 18311/18/2013

I'd imagine it has to do with wanting momentum from her hosting SNL this weekend, but while she really was terrific in the skits, the new music was kinda boring. And I'm a Lady Gaga fan.

by Anonymousreply 18411/18/2013

I'm not a gaga fan, but I also don't understand the amount of backlash. Unlike most current pop stars at least she's somewhat experimental and surprising. It seems like people who do standard boring shit get a free pass.

by Anonymousreply 18511/18/2013

[quote]It seems pretty unanimous that Artpop didn't measure up critically or CDs sold.

No, it doesn't.

by Anonymousreply 18711/18/2013

I believe her CD was released last Monday, so prior to her SNL hosting gig.

Im still curious if this gives her an extra day's advantage towards the Billboard chart. She'd probably be number 1 anyway, I'm just wondering if that number would be inflated because of the extra day.

by Anonymousreply 18811/18/2013

Hey GaGaStan, Let's call it quits on this thread. No one is getting anywhere and I think we've flung enough shit at each other to keep us purring at least until the next...umm..week, I mean century.

You love yours. I love mine. And never the twain shall meet. If we can agree on that, we can move on with life.

xxxooo, MADBOT
