"Man from UNCLE" starring Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer actually happening; will start shooting next month

Will be set in the sixties; will film in UK and Italy (cross your fingers for retro swim trunks scene.)

Female leads (yeah, who cares) will be Alicia Vikander (A Royal Affair) and Elizabeth Debicki (The Great Gatsby.)

by Anonymousreply 10501/06/2015

Oh great - a Guy Ritchie film...

by Anonymousreply 108/01/2013

Haven't they learned yet that Hammer has the oncscreen charisma of a stop sign?

by Anonymousreply 208/01/2013

[quote]Haven't they learned yet that Hammer has the oncscreen charisma of a stop sign?

Same could be said about Fat Cavill.

by Anonymousreply 308/01/2013

[quote]Female leads (yeah, who cares)

Looks like Ritchie or the casting director didn't to pick those unknowns. Who cares indeed! Sure they'll bring their game and use it as a platform.

Guy Ritchie films tend to be homeerotic so I suppose they're besides the point. And this one will be hotter than usual.

by Anonymousreply 408/01/2013

R4 = Stupid fangurl who gets excited just by a guy taking his shirt off.

by Anonymousreply 508/01/2013

R5 = freak who doesn't get excited by a guy taking his shirt off

by Anonymousreply 608/01/2013

R6 = The freak who signs posts "Simon Hall's Brass Knuckles".

by Anonymousreply 708/01/2013

R7 = Bomer fangurl who will only refer to Henry as "Fat Cavill"

by Anonymousreply 808/01/2013

Make them both gay and we have something here. Other than that, when's the funeral for Hollywood creativity?

Producer one (picks nose and eats it): what tv show haven't we done?

Lackey one (coming up for air after licking producer one's ass): My grandmother used to watch Man from Uncle.

Producer two (taking finger out of his ass): Is this about a man fucking his uncle? Hot!

Lackey one(back up again for air): UNCLE is some spy organization, james bond for television

Producer One: We need to make it cheap? Who's available?

Producer two (check his whore list): Henry and Armie aren't doing anything!

Producer One: We've got the cast. Get some nameless cunts to star with them. 180 million for the budget. Let's go.

by Anonymousreply 908/01/2013

W&W R9

The last part is funny cause it's true

by Anonymousreply 1008/01/2013

[quote]Female leads will be Alicia Vikander (A Royal Affair) and Elizabeth Debicki (The Great Gatsby.)

Who the fuck are they!?! Seriously.

I take it their roles require shoving out their plastic tits while pouting. Is this supposed to be ironic? Are he Zuckers directing?

Rosie Huntington is Helen Mirren compared to these nameless cunts.

by Anonymousreply 1108/01/2013

[quote]Who the fuck are they!?! Seriously.

That's what I was wondering - seems like a cast of nobodies. Even this Armie Hammer guy I have never heard of except on this site.

by Anonymousreply 1208/01/2013

R11 Elizabeth Debicki was good in the Great Gatsby.

by Anonymousreply 1308/01/2013

Is Henry going to shit his pants AGAIN?

by Anonymousreply 1408/01/2013

Guarantee it'll be a hit. Cavill/Hammer will bring in the fans.

by Anonymousreply 1508/01/2013

r15 What fans?

by Anonymousreply 1608/01/2013

The millions who went to see MoS.

by Anonymousreply 1708/01/2013

r17 Oh, you mean Superman fans.

There are few Henry Cavill fans.

There are no Armie Hammer fans.

by Anonymousreply 1808/01/2013

Cavill has a huge following these days. Get used to it. The movie will do well because of him.

by Anonymousreply 1908/01/2013

They need to have Cavill and Hammer make out during this. That'll get butts in seats. It's a spy movie too, so they can do it while undercover, so as not to overly upset the heterosexual fanboys who won't go see this anyway.

by Anonymousreply 2008/01/2013

I wouldn't be surprised if that BI @R14 is about him. He looked really thin during the premieres vs what he's looking like now. Probably popped a few ex-lax so he could look his best on the red carpet(s).

by Anonymousreply 2108/01/2013

[quote] Cavill has a huge following these days.

No, he doesn't.

by Anonymousreply 2208/01/2013

You know who would have made a good Ilya? Alex Pettyfer, that's who.

by Anonymousreply 2308/01/2013

You have very low standards for humor, r10, if you think that was funny.

by Anonymousreply 2408/01/2013

They need to do a scene where they both emerge from the sea like Bond in their tight-fitting sixties swim-trunks.

Or have some sort of fight in a Turkish Bath.

by Anonymousreply 2508/02/2013

Hungover at 2 in the morning nothing is funny R24

by Anonymousreply 2608/02/2013

And will Farty Cavill crack any hot farts in this latest bore?

by Anonymousreply 2708/02/2013

by Anonymousreply 2808/02/2013

Cavill is all that and a bag of Funyuns.

by Anonymousreply 2908/02/2013

What's sad is all these remakes of old TV shows could have been great had they updated them seriously instead of for camp/laughs (see The Green Hornet). Guy Ritchie has a shot at doing something interesting with this.

by Anonymousreply 3008/02/2013

Individually they're box office poison, so together will they be box office 9/11?

by Anonymousreply 3108/02/2013

It'll do well. Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes has done well. Why wouldn't this, esp. with the younger eye candy?

Cavill and Hammer - another RDJ and Jude Law in the making.

by Anonymousreply 3208/02/2013

"You know who would have made a good Ilya? Alex Pettyfer, that's who."

Hardly. Alexander Skarsgaard would be perfect for Ilya.

by Anonymousreply 3308/02/2013

More stars than there are in heaven!

by Anonymousreply 3408/02/2013

Should they retitle it "Men from UNCLE"? People will be confused if there are two men from UNCLE and the title only indicates one.

Man in Black

Marvel's The Avenger

by Anonymousreply 3508/02/2013

The best outcome of all this will be the obligatory tie-in retro-tight-suited skinny-tied fashion spreads in 'Details' and 'GQ.'

They both make great human hangars.

by Anonymousreply 3608/02/2013

Lordy is he purdy.

by Anonymousreply 3708/02/2013

Even sauced, he's fucking hot:

by Anonymousreply 3808/02/2013

[quote] Cavill and Hammer - another RDJ and Jude Law in the making.

With a 1/10th of the talent and onscreen charisma.

by Anonymousreply 3908/02/2013

[quote]They need to have Cavill and Hammer make out during this

Keep going...

by Anonymousreply 4008/02/2013

The bitch fight between r4 and r9 is alot more entertaining than this shitfest will probably turn out to be. Why must every fucking movie be about comic book characters and super heroes?

by Anonymousreply 4108/02/2013

Armie Hammer has plenty of talent and charisma, it's Cavill who has trouble with charisma, as beautiful as he is. They both has sexual issues.

by Anonymousreply 4208/02/2013

This will flop. They'd be better off putting Cavill in a remake of Somewhere In Time.

by Anonymousreply 4308/02/2013

[quote]They both has sexual issues.

I can haz sex with them?

by Anonymousreply 4408/02/2013

[quote]Haven't they learned yet that Hammer has the oncscreen charisma of a stop sign?

You do a disservice to the charisma of stop signs by saying this.

Elizabeth Debicki has an interesting face, at least.

by Anonymousreply 4508/02/2013

Fuck. Well, obviously, I meant "have".

by Anonymousreply 4608/02/2013

Man From UNCLE is far more comparable a property to Dark Shadows than it is Sherlock Holmes. You bitches know nothing.

by Anonymousreply 4708/02/2013

Say what, r47?

by Anonymousreply 4808/02/2013

R47: No one said it was like "Sherlock Holmes," only that Guy Ritchie -who directed SH- will probably do something good with MFU and it will be as successful as SH.

I never saw Cavill in "The Tudors" or anything else to be honest (incl. MoS). He wasn't good in The Tudors? I would think being opposite JRM would bring something out in him, no?

by Anonymousreply 4908/02/2013

On the io9 website there is an article on Man from Uncle and apparently Ritchie wants Batman to be "older". Hammer said he is not interested in the role. Fans are suggesting who they would like to see in opposite Carvill and a couple of them mentioned Karl Urban. I think he would be perfect. He has that world weary look about him and also possesses the gravitas that is needed to play Batman. He's also great looking. Someone also suggested Clint Eastwood. That is just wrong!

by Anonymousreply 5008/02/2013

Okay, I'm losing my mind. I'm posting about Superman Vs. Batman in the Man from Uncle thread. Must haz coffee. Forget Richie. Hammer did say he's not interested in the role of Batman. Karl Urban would make a great Batman and I have no interest in seeing Cavill and Hammer in Richie's movie.

by Anonymousreply 5108/02/2013

Armie Hammer was born to play the vapid, trust-fund heir Bruce Wayne.

It's the Batman part that's the problem.

by Anonymousreply 5208/02/2013

With the right director, he could probably pull it off r52. Unfortunately, the director of this movie will be Zach Snyder. Expect a reboot five years after this comes out.

by Anonymousreply 5308/02/2013

Instant bomb. They can't even be original and who the hell are those actors??

by Anonymousreply 5408/02/2013

Thanks for explaining how stupid you are, R49. Got it the first time. Sherlock Holmes is successful because it's Sherlock Holmes (which is such a well known property there are like two or three other adaptations of it that are all simultaneously successful). The Man From UNCLE is NOT Sherlock Holmes. In terms of contemporary cultural popularity it is more comparable to Dark Shadows, another recent big screen remake of a '60s TV show which was a notorious bomb despite the contributions of Tim Burton and Johnny Depp. Not going to break it down any further for you, pea brain.

by Anonymousreply 5508/02/2013

Armie Hammer as Ilya? Major Fail!!!

by Anonymousreply 5608/02/2013

R55 is a bit of a cunt.

by Anonymousreply 5708/02/2013

Same here, r56. David McCallum was dreamy.

by Anonymousreply 5808/02/2013

Dark Shadows was a bomb because it was a camp sendup of a TV show most people don't remember. If they had done it seriously, who knows what might have happened.

by Anonymousreply 5908/02/2013

Why would people have to know about the original show or that one even existed to go see this movie? It doesn't have to be as well-known as Sherlock Holmes or not as well-known as Dark Shadows to get an audience. If the movie itself looks good, there will be an audience for it.

Also agree with R36. I'm sure the wardrobe will be a big part of the sell, as it was with Mad Men.

by Anonymousreply 6008/02/2013

r53 Why? There a plenty of capable actors out there who don't need a "good director" to drag out talents they barely have. No need to try and crowbar a performance from what is essentially an upscale broomstick.

This obsession some have in trying to mentally cast their favorite pretty people into every role, no matter how pitiful their actual talents, is embarrassing.

by Anonymousreply 6108/02/2013

R55 They were only being compared because this is another two guy pairing in a movie from Guy Ritchie. You know, Sherlock Holmes/Watson, Solo/Illya. It's as simple as that. Jesus. You're too analytical for your own good.

R61 But Hammer does have talent. He's not just a pretty face. You are free to think otherwise, and be nasty about it, which seems necessary for you.

by Anonymousreply 6208/02/2013

The man from what?

by Anonymousreply 6308/02/2013

[quote] [R61] But Hammer does have talent

No, he doesn't.

[quote] He's not just a pretty face

Yes. He is.

by Anonymousreply 6408/02/2013

The spy/Ritchie aspect will get the straight guys to go while the eye candy will get the straight women/gay men to go.

by Anonymousreply 6508/02/2013

What R63 said.

Huge fan of Henry and Armie. I'm melting in a hot puddle of cum as I type.

by Anonymousreply 6608/02/2013

I never saw the show, but heard of it. Looked for a clip and the first thing that popped up was Nancy Sinatra in an episode:

by Anonymousreply 6708/02/2013

r65 = Hollywood marketing genius

by Anonymousreply 6808/02/2013

R58 = Sally Draper

by Anonymousreply 6908/02/2013

Question: Was McCallum supposed to play a native Russian or was he supposed to be a British guy of Russian descent? I watched the clip and he didn't put on any Russian accent, so Hammer would be doing something McCallum did not.

by Anonymousreply 7008/02/2013

McCallum's character was from Soviet Georgia.

by Anonymousreply 7108/02/2013

Elizabeth Debicki was the best thing about The Great Gatsby. Faint praise, but she was good. I kind of like Armie Hammer but I can't imagine this won't bomb.

by Anonymousreply 7208/02/2013

I was head over heels for McCallum in my budding gay pre-adolescence.

I loved the name Illya Kuryakin.

by Anonymousreply 7308/02/2013

Norman Felton, who created the show, intended it to show how the US and Soviet Union could cooperate in a time of escalating tensions. He intended McCallum’s character to be a Soviet from Georgia, and there were references to that in the first season.

However, McCallum himself is a right-winger and put up a stink about it, and the network was never happy with having a show that portrayed Soviets in a sympathetic light, so they slowly phased that aspect of the character out over the years.

by Anonymousreply 7408/02/2013

[quote]McCallum himself is a right-winger

How disappointing. There goes my crush.

by Anonymousreply 7508/02/2013

It was a bit of a mindfuck when I learned that Robert Vaughan was the leftie in real life (he was very active in the anti-war movement in the ‘60s) and McCallum was the conservative.

by Anonymousreply 7608/02/2013

Think of the merchandising!

by Anonymousreply 7708/02/2013

Hugh Grant joins cast

by Anonymousreply 7808/08/2013

I guess I'm in the minority, but I like Guy Ritchie films. I liked Rocknrolla.

I think this movie is going to be really good.

by Anonymousreply 7908/08/2013

Why did the Russian have a British accent?

by Anonymousreply 8008/08/2013

Elizabeth Debicki is one of the best young actresses working. Guess her age after watching Gatsby and then look it up.

by Anonymousreply 8108/08/2013

I've never heard of her, but holy shit, she's 6'3".

by Anonymousreply 8208/08/2013

R80, the Russian started out with a Russian accent (see the very first episode in which he appears), but the British actor playing him didn't want to do it, so they stopped.

by Anonymousreply 8308/09/2013

Nobody gives a damn about these shitty old movies/TV shows getting reboots.

Hollywood needs to get original.

by Anonymousreply 8408/09/2013

Most won't know it was an old TV show. They'll go see it if it's a good movie.

Ritchie films do well.

by Anonymousreply 8508/09/2013

Oh, Hollywood, will you never learn?

by Anonymousreply 8608/09/2013

if they get Johnny Depp to play the quirky head of the KGB then they might have a hit

by Anonymousreply 8708/09/2013

Just show the original television series. It cannot be improved upon.

by Anonymousreply 8808/09/2013

I think we've had enough Hammer/Depp collaborations, R87

by Anonymousreply 8908/09/2013

Mad Men's Jared Harris has joined the cast, and here's the official synopsis:

"Set against the backdrop of the early 1960s, at the height of the Cold War, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. centres on CIA agent Solo and KGB agent Kuryakin," said Warner Bros.

"Forced to put aside longstanding hostilities, the two team up on a joint mission to stop a mysterious international criminal organization, which is bent on destabilising the fragile balance of power through the proliferation of nuclear weapons and technology.

"The duo's only lead is the daughter of a vanished German scientist, who is the key to infiltrating the criminal organization, and they must race against time to find him and prevent a worldwide catastrophe."

by Anonymousreply 9009/04/2013

I used to think Cavill was gay, but now I've seen/read enough to know he actually isn't and that all we've ever seen is nonsense on DL that was never proven. Even that supposed boyfriend of his in those pics is still friends with him and if they were trying to hide his "gay past," that guy would never be seen again, esp. not at world premieres with Cavill and his family.

Verdict: Gay-friendly guy.

by Anonymousreply 9109/04/2013

The Man From UNCLE was my favorite show. George Clooney would have been the best Solo, but I can't think of anyone who could be as great as David McCallum was as Illya. I watch NCIS just to see him acting again.

by Anonymousreply 9209/04/2013

Tom Cruise was supposed to be Solo, but dropped out of the project.

by Anonymousreply 9309/04/2013

Just stunning:

by Anonymousreply 9409/19/2013

Warner Bros will release it next January (yikes!)

by Anonymousreply 9502/20/2014

Dumping it in January, thats a good sign.

by Anonymousreply 9602/20/2014

release date?

by Anonymousreply 9707/11/2014

Ummm... the post two posts above you says January 15.

by Anonymousreply 9807/11/2014

R92 me too. I will watch anything with David McCallum in it.

by Anonymousreply 9907/11/2014

Henry and Armie are back in the UK doing reshoots for "Man from UNCLE" this week... Almost a year after principal photography began.

by Anonymousreply 10008/03/2014

Holy crap! "Man from UNCLE" pushed back EIGHT MONTHS to August 2015!

by Anonymousreply 10108/12/2014

New photo

by Anonymousreply 10201/06/2015

Well that pictures answers some questions

by Anonymousreply 10301/06/2015

They will look hot together.

by Anonymousreply 10401/06/2015

Like what R103?
