Is Hollywood about to meet its death?

It doesn't seem to be doing too well in box office this summer, do you think what Spielberg predicted may come to pass?

Depends. If they stop with sequels and start to be creative; new script, new ideas.... Look outside of box, basically

How, exactly, is Hollywood going to "die?"

by Anonymousreply 208/01/2013

Hollywood should split its productions into two categories--movies for U.S./Canadian/European consumption and movies for the rest of the world. That way we would see less of the kind of trash that has been dominating U.S. screens from January to August the last 20 years or so.

What did Spielberg predict? Hollywood just needs to get off it's ass and get creative and stop with all these mindless comic book and shoot 'em up "blockbusters" that are no more exciting than your average TV commerical, including special effects: Stories, characters, imagination!!

For the sake of U.S. audiences, perhaps what Hollywood needs is a series of costly bombs. The failure of the old formulas might encourage the executives to take chances on fresh ideas.

They sort of do that already.

They will start to make films for China

What is your definition of Hollywood? The business of making film/television won't die, but the conduit through which it is brought to the audience may.

That is to say fewer theaters and more flocking to the Netflix model.
