Right-wing attorney says St. Louis Cardinals ban on crosses puts us ‘in grave danger’ | The Raw...

The Major League Baseball team in St. Louis, Missouri put every American “in grave danger” of God’s wrath when the team’s manager asked park custodians to stop leaving religious symbols on the pitcher’s mound, according to an attorney for a religious fundamentalist group.

The Cardinals’ general manager asked stadium workers to stop etching a cross onto the back-side of the pitcher’s mound earlier this month, after news reports featured the religious symbol. The cross and the number 6 were put there in memory of former pitcher Stan Musial, who died in January.

“We’ve gone from a nation that exhaled God to one that is ashamed of the word,” Liberty Counsel Vice President of Legal Affairs Steve Crampton said in a video published Thursday. “It’s become like, uh, maybe the dirtiest word that can be spoken in public.”

The manager’s simple request apparently outraged the religious legal group The Liberty Counsel, which normally finds its attorneys busy fighting cases around the country that they believe will advance religious values. The group’s “About” page boasts of numerous court victories, including taking a child away from a trans person in Florida and helping anti-abortion protesters get closer to women’s health clinics in Tennessee.

He added that the Cardinals’ management has effectively told the team’s “God-fearing” fans that “they are the outsiders” and no longer welcome in St. Louis.

“We are going to find ourselves, we really are already experiencing, in grave danger,” Crampton concluded. “So, our being embarrassed by a cross on the pitcher’s mound is shameful and you can bet that the creator of heaven and Earth is not turning a blind eye on what’s going on in America today.”

"Exhaled" God? Huzza wuzza wha?

by Anonymousreply 307/25/2013

It's correctly written as "exalted" in the story at the link. Who knows why the OP changed the word to "exhaled" when he reposted it.

Anyway, these Christians nutbags will use anything to offer up proof of a "war on Christianity." As if their god really gives a shit about baseball.

That preacher just collected a few hundred thousand dollars from the deluded xtians that follow him after that rant. They really believe his bullshit probably a lot more than he does.

Why do we care about a lawyer named Crapton?

“It’s become like, uh, maybe the dirtiest word that can be spoken in public.”

Right up there with "like" and "uh"...
