Newport, Rhode Island

What is the best way to spend time there if only for a day? Is it very gay?

Great seafood; some nice boutiques; daily boat launch to Providence if interested. You can get around easy by car. Drive along the coast. Tour the mansions along the waterfront (Marble House, The Breakers, The Elms, Rosecliff). I truly enjoyed spending a few days there a few years ago.

Cry when your beloved ditches you for a night out with someone prettier.

Yes, enjoy a nice lobster, tour a cottage or two.

I was horrified to discover that the "cliff" on the Collinwood Estate is all of four feet high at low tide.

I was stationed at the old Naval hospital there for a year, long ago. Had no money then though. All I remember is the cliff walk and the near by beaches.

I grew up in Newport and still spend a lot of time there-- it's not very gay-friendly. It is very pretty though, although a bit boring.

boring, pretty, ultra waspy rich is the vibe you get there.

You can visit the International Tennis Hall of Fame.

Upscale and boring. Bring money and lots of it.Cute shops to spend $$$ in, but so what. Good food. As for antiques,go into the countryside. Anything in town will be PRICEY.

For Gay nightlife, do what we locals do and go to Providence or Boston. Or P-town.
