Is sushi healthy?

My coworker mentioned today that she's on a diet and is avoiding bad things like sushi (a bunch of us asked her if she wanted to join us). Sushi is bad now? IS ANYTHING SAFE?

little slices every once in a while probably isn't so bad, but fish of many finds contains tons of heavy metals, lead, and mercury to name two. these can be toxic over a period of time

Maybe she is avoiding the wasted carbs of the rice. I make my sushi using a mixture of sticky rice. Short grain brown, red and black sticky rice mix.

Yeah the only possible problems with sushi are the heavy metals than can be found in fish and the rice on the rolls if you are trying to strictly control carbs.

Overall though it is a healthy meal.

It's not that good for you. Loaded with sodium and toxic metals. In moderation it's fine.

I use low sodium soy sauce

And how about all that Japanese radioactive cesium that fell into the Pacific a couple of years ago?

It's a heavy metal, and it's in the oceanic food chain, not that one sushi dinner will do you any harm.
