Jason's hot homoerotic dream from True Blood

If you are like me you stopped watching this damn show as the writing kept deteriorating, however making the rounds this morning is this clip from the most recent ep.

It is damn hot I think. Ryan Kwanten is a gorgeous man and I also though one of the real talents acting wise in the True Blood cast who never got the credit he deserved.

No idea who the other dude he is with is. Enjoy, it definitely livened up my Monday morning.

I just barely got HBO, and started watching Season 1 on the HBO to GO app, it's great so far!

by Nelsan Ellis (I'm so straight, I promise!)reply 107/08/2013

Find out who the other dude is!!!

by Nelsan Ellis (I'm so straight, I promise!)reply 207/08/2013

The first two seasons are entertaining. After that it starts going downhill.

Nowadays it is only worth checking out for the occasional hotness like the clip above.

by Nelsan Ellis (I'm so straight, I promise!)reply 307/08/2013

R2, his name is Robert Kazinsky, one of the new main characters in the series.

by Nelsan Ellis (I'm so straight, I promise!)reply 407/08/2013

He's in Pacific Rim too, interesting.

by Nelsan Ellis (I'm so straight, I promise!)reply 507/08/2013

He spent half the episode naked, and we didn't even get a good ass shot (sigh).

by Nelsan Ellis (I'm so straight, I promise!)reply 607/08/2013

I want the extended, uncut version of that scene.

by Nelsan Ellis (I'm so straight, I promise!)reply 707/08/2013

Why does he have to wake up at that moment?

by Nelsan Ellis (I'm so straight, I promise!)reply 807/08/2013

That's complete bullshit.

I hate the way TB plays around with these 'homoerotic' dreams, yet never goes there. I find it homophobic, frankly. They want the gay audience, but don't want to drive the breeders away with 'icky' gay sex.

by Nelsan Ellis (I'm so straight, I promise!)reply 907/08/2013

here are pictures of rob kazinsky super hot

by Nelsan Ellis (I'm so straight, I promise!)reply 1107/08/2013

R10 is right. That was BARELY homoerotic. It was obviously more of a vampire warning of some kind. Maybe Sookie's new boyfriend is both faerie and vampire? My guess is that he's involved with Warlow somehow.

PS...anyone else notice that the Governor does everything at night...

by Nelsan Ellis (I'm so straight, I promise!)reply 1207/08/2013

Sorry, but that scene was clearly homoerotic. Two men making eyes, one shaving the other, getting close, with one about to lick the other one's neck.

By the way, the fact that Miguel's "Adorn" was playing in the background just made it that much hotter.

by Nelsan Ellis (I'm so straight, I promise!)reply 1307/08/2013

Get those two actors over to Randy Blue, STAT!

by Nelsan Ellis (I'm so straight, I promise!)reply 1407/09/2013

British, Jewish, fluent in Hebrew, gorgeous, sex on a stick and with, for me, a perfect body.

I want to taste his blood and have those dreams.

by Nelsan Ellis (I'm so straight, I promise!)reply 1507/09/2013

"Involved" with Warlow, R12? He IS Warlow!

by Nelsan Ellis (I'm so straight, I promise!)reply 1607/09/2013

R12 is not very quick on the uptake.

by Nelsan Ellis (I'm so straight, I promise!)reply 1707/09/2013

That was REALLY well-done. Very hot.

by Nelsan Ellis (I'm so straight, I promise!)reply 1807/09/2013

r12 - are you an idiot? That was the best definition of homoerotic.

Perhaps you are looking for out-and-out ass-pumping hardcore porn?

by Nelsan Ellis (I'm so straight, I promise!)reply 1907/09/2013

Yes, R12 is an idiot.

by Nelsan Ellis (I'm so straight, I promise!)reply 2007/09/2013

Erotic and ultimately very funny. Jason keeps having these little experiences and showing him freaking because he had an erection when he woke up was wonderful.

by Nelsan Ellis (I'm so straight, I promise!)reply 2107/09/2013

Just as context for those who don't watch the show: in the TB world, humans who drink blood from a vampire develop a strong obsessive attraction to them as an after-effect. Not only that, but they obsess about the vampire's blood specifically, and crave it like an alcoholic having the DTs.

Previously, Warlow opened up a vein and fed Jason his blood when Jason was on the brink of dying. So, by showing Jason's fantasy about Warlow, they are being internally consistent. This is also why he was about to lick the drop of blood on Warlow's neck.

However, I definitely agree with R10 in that TB only treats samesex attraction as a one-scene novelty, whereas, when Sookie drank Eric's blood, she became romantically involved with him in what turned out to be a season-long plot line. So it is a gratuitous nod to gay people, in my opinion, and a real dodge of what could be some exciting TV. It would be very interesting to see Jason kiss the vampire that killed his parents (supposedly...no spoilers there) and then struggle with his lust for another man while still thinking himself straight. Instead, all too frequently we are just the comic relief.

As to whether that was homoerotic or not, did we watch the same clip? Of course it's homoerotic! Look at Jason's fascination with Warlow, but also his nervousness--he's practically blushing in front of his idol. Witness Warlow's self-assured, seductive responses in a silky tone of voice. Listen to some of the dialog:

Warlow: "You haven't done this before, have you?" Jason: "No, not really." Warlow: "Just relax, do it like you do it to yourself."

Do you really need to have this allegory explained to you?

by Nelsan Ellis (I'm so straight, I promise!)reply 2207/09/2013

I"m a woman and I thought the scene was funny and hot as hell. Even I wanted them to go THERE. Sheesh.

by Nelsan Ellis (I'm so straight, I promise!)reply 2307/09/2013

[quote]They want the gay audience, but don't want to drive the breeders away with 'icky' gay sex.

You mean like Eric furiously swapping spit with Russell's fucktoy and then preparing to ass-fuck him, but instead killing him out of spite? Or the numerous other same-sex couplings on the show? (Pam and Tara, Tara and her New Orleans gf, Lafayette and Jesus, etc.)

Get over it, cupcake. HBO is the LEAST homophobic network out there. ALL of their best series explore homosexuality in some context - even "The Sopranos," for fuck's sake!

by Nelsan Ellis (I'm so straight, I promise!)reply 2407/09/2013

R22, yes, yes, but Sookie is straight and her fixing on Eric was "internally consistent." Having straight characters tingle and cringe about homoerotic effects of blood drinking is not homophobic. It is allowing them to be true to their characters' innate orientation.

If you want to see gay sex on the show, just say so. And if you want to see previously straight characters reveal a hitherto unseen bisexual side, say so. The problem is not enough gay plots - but that's quite different than the special appeal of straight guys getting confused by an unexpected thrill about a (vampire) man.

by Nelsan Ellis (I'm so straight, I promise!)reply 2507/10/2013

thanks, r24, True Blood has had some teaser homerotic scenes but it also has gay relationships, romance and sex.

by Nelsan Ellis (I'm so straight, I promise!)reply 2607/10/2013

R24,R26= MORONS.

You clearly don't understand context or subtext. CLEARLY.

The "homoerotic" scenes on True Blood are often far more in the vein of 'gay panic' than of anything remotely pro-gay. This scene was a perfect example of that. It was not about sex, it was about Ben having mind-raped Jason and how the dream is a warning about Ben being a vampire. As Jason's grandfather later deduced.

R26 is particularly nuts.

The primary gay character was one of the big bads, Russell. A campy, evil, vindictive, and ruthless killer. His 'relationship' was fairly asexual, and it was mostly a mechanism through which Eric could exact his revenge. The boy toy's 'sex scene' with Eric was a joke...some kissing, but no sex. The only penetration was when Eric flips him around then impales him through the back. Hardly a pro-gay metaphor for gay sex,

Lafayette is a woman. The actor is playing him as a woman. Right down to the head scarf, the hand on his hip, and the nurturing caretaking. You can argue that Lafayette is transgender far more than his being a gay man. He's not even playing it flamboyantly enough to be a gay femme man. His character is a woman. A sort of southern fried Divine.

Eric is supposedly bisexual, yet other than his revenge killing of Russell's lover, he's been pretty straight.

Then you have a couple of dreams where men ALMOST kiss but never do.

Sorry, but this is not a homoerotic show. It teases out a few things here and there, but it's exploitative. They know if they throw out a few crumbs they'll get dimbulbs like you two.

Now, if they followed up on the Ben and Jason thing, that might be different. You could easily write Jason as a seriously repressed closet case, particulary given his fear of being thought of as gay. But TB aint gonna go there. Never.

by Nelsan Ellis (I'm so straight, I promise!)reply 2707/10/2013

The shaving/seduction scene between Jason and Ben is most definetly homoerotica. Perhaps what is different about this fantasy sequence in relation to the Bill and Sam and Lafayette and Eric erotic dream sequences is the fact that the audience WANTS to see THIS fantasy taken to it's logical conclusion. We want to see Ben and Jason get it on. We are disappointed when it turns out to be just another V-dream. And I'm talking gay and straight fans. Kwanten and Kazinsky went for it and hit it out of the park. Also, to say that True Blood doesn't have gay sex or romance is not true. The writers have showcased two relationships between gay men that were based on the notions of romantic love, devotion and committment. Sex was certainly an integral part of those relationships. Lafayette and Jesus had a more traditional relationship. Russell and Talbot had an open relationship, but after hundreds of years with the same partner, could you blame them? It was still real. The show isn't perfect but they do try too spread the love, and nookie, around. You can't please everyone.

by Nelsan Ellis (I'm so straight, I promise!)reply 2807/11/2013

The hottest scene on tv and no one is even naked.

by Nelsan Ellis (I'm so straight, I promise!)reply 2907/26/2013

Why did the True Blood season 6 thread get deleted? I want my Warlow!

by Nelsan Ellis (I'm so straight, I promise!)reply 3007/26/2013

[quote]Erotic and ultimately very funny. Jason keeps having these little experiences and showing him freaking because he had an erection when he woke up was wonderful.

Was it just an erection? I thought it was a wet dream.

by Nelsan Ellis (I'm so straight, I promise!)reply 3107/26/2013

Yeah R28, but the show doesn't showcase any gay relationships among the characters who are actually HOT, like Jason, Eric, etc.

I could care less about Lafayette and Jesus, or Russell and Talbot.

But at least we got to see Eric in a gay scene.
