Is he from the colonies?

by Anonymousreply 107/03/2013

Well fuck me upside down and sideways, I didn't see Downton as the likely bladaptation. How does this chane the story line?

by Anonymousreply 207/03/2013

What's next, a guest appearance by Paula Deen?

by Anonymousreply 307/03/2013

^^change not chane

So? What did we all think of Gary Carr's debut on DA?

[all posts by tedious, racist idiot removed.]

I thought his character was gay. And not a good singer.

by Anonymousreply 701/20/2014

When he first started to sing (and was still off-camera) I though tit was a girl singing.

by Anonymousreply 801/20/2014

I think his character sings so that when he stops singing, we all instantly rejoice.

by Anonymousreply 901/20/2014

Couldn't they have gotten a black actor who could believably play str8?

by Anonymousreply 1002/06/2014

I agree. Not a good singer and not remotely attractive. Who did he fuck to get cast?

by Anonymousreply 1102/06/2014

I think he's handsome.

by Anonymousreply 1202/06/2014

Worst singing voice ever. It sounds so strange. And his "aww shucks" thing is very tiring.

by Anonymousreply 1302/06/2014

Even considering the time period, he's just not an asset.

by Anonymousreply 1402/06/2014

They could've found better.

I really liked the story line and he and Michelle dockery have one really affective scene together, but he just doesn't look, and particularly Sound like American jazz singers from that period at all.

Dame Kiri te kanawa sounds much more like dame Nellie than this character does like anyone I can think of from 1924

by Anonymousreply 1702/06/2014

He's Fidel on Death in Paradise.

by Anonymousreply 1802/06/2014

DA casting people must be notoriously lazy. He's the best they could come up with?

Plus Rose is already a tired character, the familiar "I'm a bored rich girl stirring up trouble but certainly not giving up privilege or money" type. Rose kisses a Negro!! Shocking!

by Anonymousreply 1902/07/2014

I think he's modeled on Leslie Hutch Hutchinson, in which case, he seems like good casting.

by Anonymousreply 2002/07/2014

They can't have it both ways on Downton. They act as if Thomas being gay us just an alternative lifestyle he cannot change. This was not how people in 1920s England viewed homosexuality.

Yet we hear Lord Grantham say that there's something "Johnny Foreigner" about English Catholics and it's supposed to be shocking that Rose carries on an affair with a black man? Oh please.
