What's that movie called?
I'm trying to remember a movie I saw years ago but can't remember the name.
It's from the 1980s and it's about a Japanese girl who moves to NYC. She works in a Japanese restaurant downtown and befriends the eccentric locals. It's got a very 80s, downtown, punk/New Wave kind of vibe.

With the exception of the Japanese angle, it sounds a little like "Times Square"

That's not it.
It also had twin boys - one of whom died. And a large sea turtle.

I think I know the movie you're thinking about but wasn't it about a Japanese guy?
|by Anonymous||reply 4||07/02/2013|
No, it was a girl.
It wasn't Times Square. There were no twins or turtles.
It was a very lighthearted film. Kind of indie.

It just came to me. It's called Living On Tokyo Time.
Cute movie. I'm going try to find if again.

If I can intrude, I have a movie I've been trying to reconnect with but can't remember the name.
It was a movie where two guys have obviously slept together after the one guy's bachelor party. They are talking about their relationship in a bedroom but they are no longer in the bed. The engaged one is closeted and wants to continue the sexual relationship with the other guy. As I recall, they were both in their late 30s or early 40s. I've tried googling some of these facts but haven't been able to find it. I think the movie was made after year 2000.
Sorry for the intrusion OP.

R9, it was definitely Bosom Buddies.
|by Anonymous||reply 11||07/02/2013|
Oh and it wasn't NYC. It was SF.

R8, you're thinking of "The Bad Place" by Dean Koontz - Paula Dean's bi-racial brother.
|by Anonymous||reply 14||07/02/2013|
I think it was called "Come Back to the Five and Dime, Miyoshi Umeki Miyoshi Umeki."

Is it a film you directed? Acted in? Had a bit part?

R9 here. Thanks OP> Not Bosom Buddies but I was flipping through DirecTV movie channels a few years back and caught that scene I described between these two men. I just can't remember the movie name since I'd like to see the whole film.

R15, "Miyoshi Umeki" is always preceded by "the delicate, the flowerlike".

I think it's "Gamera."
