Michael Pitt: bad boy image contrived?

I think it is. I was reading somewhere that he changed. That he used to be fairly normal.

I think they're trying to create a new "James Dean". I'm just not buying this hard living, difficult druggie, polysexual bullshit.

Hollywood is all about "image making". It doesn't stop off screen.

We all know John Wayne wasn't John Wayne in real life. He was a mincing queen!

Anyone else possibly contrived to the extent of John Wayne and/or Michael Pitt?

by Anonymousreply 6607/05/2013

I'm not saying Michael Pitt has a secret life where he's married with 2.5 children, a dog, and white picket fence, but I doubt he's the total druggie polysexual asshole he's portrayed to be. I don't buy the JGL/Pitt romance either.

OTOH, we know people like Mickey Rourke are for real because he destroyed his face on purpose.

by Anonymousreply 106/30/2013

John Wayne was no homo. Not in anyway shape or form.

by Anonymousreply 206/30/2013

Oh, I think Michael Pitt has had a wee bit of man on man action.

by Anonymousreply 306/30/2013

Michael is a nice guy, likes weed, does the tina from time to time. Somewhat self destructive on occasion.

by Anonymousreply 406/30/2013

R4, any truth to the JGL romance?

by Anonymousreply 506/30/2013

by Anonymousreply 606/30/2013

Oh dear.

by Anonymousreply 706/30/2013

He was self-destructive enough to piss off Terence Winter and Tim Van Patten to the extent that a totally viable character like Jimmy was killed off at the end of the second season of Boardwalk Empire. And then his agents told him to go fuck himself.

by Anonymousreply 806/30/2013

Michael Pitt from Boardwalk Empire

by Anonymousreply 906/30/2013

But maybe that story was created to give him "bad boy credibility", R8. Although, I admit, it sounds pretty extreme that they would go to those lengths just to give a relatively unknown actor an image.

by Anonymousreply 1006/30/2013

Did he do any nudity on Boardwalk Empire, R9?

by Anonymousreply 1106/30/2013

Yes, from the back. Lucky Luciano gave us full frontal, though. In real life, that guy pings to me.

by Anonymousreply 1206/30/2013

Nope. You no get lucky with Lucky. I know that for a fact.

by Anonymousreply 1306/30/2013

Michael Pitt sure did plenty of nudity in "The Dreamers".

by Anonymousreply 1406/30/2013

Why R13? You tried to hit on him?

by Anonymousreply 1506/30/2013

Isn't Michael Pitt over already? Like quite some time ago?

by Anonymousreply 1606/30/2013

What happened to him, R16?

by Anonymousreply 1706/30/2013

R16, he's still working regularly, but I don't think he wants to be an A-list star anyway

by Anonymousreply 1807/01/2013

He doesn't, R18, so far. But then again, Johnny Depp said the same thing and look at him now.

by Anonymousreply 1907/02/2013

r16, using the term "over" like that makes you seem sexually undesirable.

by Anonymousreply 2007/02/2013

I remember the first time I saw Michael Pitt.

He was cast as Michelle Williams love interest in Dawson's Creek.

The first thing I noticed was, "My, what mushy mouth you have!"

The second thing I noticed as, "Why have they cast this queen to pretend to be in love with a girl?"

He butched it up Broadwalk Empire, but was a nightmare on the set, showing up hungover and forgetting his lines (if they weren't coke).

by Anonymousreply 2107/02/2013

Yeah, he was pretty butch on Boardwalk Empire. Are you telling me he's not that butch in real life?

by Anonymousreply 2207/02/2013

"butch"? "queen"? Who but effeminites use words like this?

by Anonymousreply 2307/02/2013

R23 = a queen who is "butch" only in her own mind. (NOTE: Don't open your mouth except for dick!)

by Anonymousreply 2407/02/2013

Pardon me, R23. Masculine/macho. Is that better?

by Anonymousreply 2507/02/2013

Isn't it interesting that the first insult femmy types instantly reach for is to claim that someone else is just like them?

by Anonymousreply 2607/02/2013

r25/r22, how about natural or normal? The idea of "macho," "butch," "queen" etc. are exaggerated caricatures that exist mostly in the minds of DL priss types. Most guys just be themselves and aren't into some cartoonish act.

by Anonymousreply 2707/02/2013

R26: You've pulled that one out of your shallow drawer of tricks before.

****** YAWN ********

by Anonymousreply 2807/02/2013

R27: You are overcompensating for something. Work it out with a paid therapist. Don't take it out on us.

by Anonymousreply 2907/02/2013

He looks strung out.

by Anonymousreply 3007/02/2013

r28, noticing what people actually do isn't some sort of "trick." If you don't like that others notice what you do, perhaps you shouldn't do it.

by Anonymousreply 3107/02/2013

Clicking on r29's troll-dar made my page yellow. I see someone is a bit upset. About..... something.

by Anonymousreply 3207/02/2013

What's with the black hair? It looks awful on him.

by Anonymousreply 3307/02/2013

r30, he "looks" like he's wearing sunglasses.

by Anonymousreply 3407/02/2013

[quote]The idea of "macho," "butch," "queen" etc. are exaggerated caricatures that exist mostly in the minds of DL priss types. Most guys just be themselves and aren't into some cartoonish act.

Yes! I don't know why this isn't obvious to more people around here. It's apparent that many DLers have these perceptions, and I just wonder what kind of world they live in. Cartoon is a good word for it I guess.

by Anonymousreply 3507/02/2013

He's involved in six projects right now. Not exactly out of work.

179th Street - Detective Peter McLane

???? The First

2014 Rob the Mob

2014 I Origins

2013 You Can't Win

2012 Seven Psychopaths

by Anonymousreply 3607/02/2013

Didn't he give a try at being a musician once and actually have a popular song back in the 90s? One of the lines had something in it about rowing a boat to China I think.

by Anonymousreply 3707/02/2013

I think he's hot as shit.

I would love to put my face in his arm pits and them suck him off.

by Anonymousreply 3807/02/2013

Hasn't he been engaged since 2009? What's with the 4-year engagement?

by Anonymousreply 3907/02/2013

[quote]"butch"? "queen"? Who but effeminites use words like this?

The crazed DataLounge "Effeminates Nut" is, to me, the most disturbing and bizarre DL character. Who gives a shit!? He can tie in a salami sandwich into his "You sound like EFFEMINATES!" screeching. Ugh, I bet he thinks he passes as straight!

by Anonymousreply 4007/02/2013

I would like to start this post by admitting that I am a Michael Pitt fan girl who would get on my knees anytime, anywhere for him no matter how nasty he is.

Back to the original question. Pitt claims that he was in reform school and that he lived on the streets of New York when he was young. There is a suggestion that he was a prostitute and that his bike courier job that he talks about is really just a way to say he was a drug dealer. He also claims that he has trouble reading, that he is basically illiterate, and so has to memorize scripts and had to hire a tutor to teach him about history. He says that when he started Dawson Creek that he was living in a squat pad in the projects. He said he identifies with Kurt Cobain and River Phoenix and understands through their lives the things he has to avoid. He was certainly a brat on the set of Hedwig and the Angry Inch... famously eating Doritos before the kiss scenes so that his breath would be nasty. He has also turned down some fairly big roles.

After all that he has said, I don't know that he is as much trouble now. You have to be fairly motivated to adapt a screenplay and then act in and direct the film. He stays active in fashion, his band Pagoda and film. He counts people like Allison Mosshart and Patti Smith as his friends... He seems like a punk rock boy who grew up and decided it was time to capitalize on all the things that fell in his lap when he was a young fuck up.

by Anonymousreply 4107/02/2013

The loon at r40 should probably read r26.

by Anonymousreply 4207/02/2013

All of that bio sounds fabricated to appear more edgy and rock n' roll than he really is.

Didn't he grow up in NJ? And he was already on DC when he was just a teen so what kind of awful life could he have led?

by Anonymousreply 4307/02/2013

So did he really have a hit song?

by Anonymousreply 4407/02/2013

That's bull, R41. He's from Orange NJ, from a middle class family. He never lived on the streets and I'm sure he can read just fine. And, no, he was never a prostitute.

If that's really what he said, he must've said it with his tongue firmly planted in his cheek.

by Anonymousreply 4507/02/2013

I love tough guys, but I only thought he was hot-ish in Boardwalk Empire. I prefer a good deal more muscle than he has.

Which reminds me how ridiculous it looks when Nucky gets into a fist-fight and they pretend he's so bad-ass. He's short, old and featherweight, which makes him about as bad-ass as Don Knotts. The actual Nucky was a big fat guy, but they didn't want to copy Sopranos.

by Anonymousreply 4607/02/2013

Back in the 1920s, men didn't work out like they do today. If he had giant muscles, it would look fake.

by Anonymousreply 4707/02/2013

[quote]I prefer a good deal more muscle than he has.

So you like fake cartoonish looking bodies? Are you prissy in the way you present yourself.

by Anonymousreply 4807/02/2013

True I guess, but that doesn't help me get turned on by him. Overall, it came off as a little more macho posturing than actual macho.

by Anonymousreply 4907/02/2013

[quote]He looks strung out.

He looks STRUNG THE FUCK out!

by Anonymousreply 5007/02/2013

Oh I've been schooled, r48. Now I love skinny guys and Michael's my favorite!

by Anonymousreply 5107/02/2013

For someone supposedly so strung out, he seems to do alright for himself. 6 movies in less than two years.

by Anonymousreply 5207/02/2013

He dated Asia Argento for a year or two.

He seems like a poseur to me.

by Anonymousreply 5307/02/2013

r51, Micheal isn't "skinny" he's pretty normal. But it's good to see you've listened to reason.

by Anonymousreply 5407/02/2013

You can't help but have a visceral reaction to this guy. He's a pretty boy who won't age well.

by Anonymousreply 5507/03/2013

You know nothing of the sort r55.

by Anonymousreply 5607/03/2013

Christopher Walken used to be kind of pretty, too. Look at him now. Even Leo isn't anywhere near as attractive as he used to be. He seems like he will follow in their shoes.

by Anonymousreply 5707/03/2013

What roles did he turn down, R41?

by Anonymousreply 5807/03/2013

Interview from Bullet:

Although West Orange is an upper-middle class suburban community, Pitt encountered his share of tribulations growing up. He hopped between high schools and juvenile detention centers before dropping out at 16. Pitt eventually moved to New York, where he became another struggling kid dabbling in crust-punk homelessness and cheap communal living, with the hope, like so many before him, of somehow subsisting on music, acting, or art. “I sort of bummed around Manhattan when I didn’t really have an address,” he says. “I moved to Brooklyn for financial reasons. Then I learned that there were a lot of people in the same financial situation that I was in.”

by Anonymousreply 5907/03/2013

"West Orange is an upper-middle class suburban community"

Ehh...not so much.

by Anonymousreply 6007/03/2013

West Orange is middle middle-class as far as I'm concerned.

by Anonymousreply 6107/03/2013

He may not age well, but as he is right now I'd let him go to the bathroom in my mouth.

by Anonymousreply 6207/03/2013

Not that this means anything...I KNOW, he's an actor, but how many gay/bi roles has he taken?

I saw Murder by Numbers, and it was definitely implied that he was gay. Any others?

by Anonymousreply 6307/03/2013

He wasn't gay in Murder by Numbers. It was based on the gay couple in the 20s, but obviously they did not carry over the gay theme.

by Anonymousreply 6407/05/2013

You're disgusting, R62. Keep your disgusting perversions to yourself.

by Anonymousreply 6507/05/2013

[R62]: #1 or #2? (not that it really matters, either way you're gross) Re: Michael Pitt, he actually is a good actor, but he's still young enough to take himself WAY too seriously. He'll grow out of it.
