Celebs tweet their reactions to the DOMA/Prop 8 rulings

Thoughts, bitches? Some tweets from particular DL faves:

Lea Michele: "What amazing and beautiful news today! Goodbye #doma goodbye #prop8! #LoveIsLove!!!"

Debra Messing: "Today is a good day. A great day. A historic day. So proud of our country. #love&equalityforall"

Leonardo DiCaprio: "Historic day. Well done #SCOTUS."

Padma Lakshmi: "Hurray for all Americans and good riddance to DOMA. It's a new day. A happy day."

Bryan Greenberg: "Equality is inevitable. Good job #SCOTUS on voting down #Doma #Prop8 #MarriageEquality #LoveIsLove"

Ben Flajnik: "finally our great state of CA got something right. #onelove #prop8"

Nick Jonas: "We are all equal and have the right to love. So proud to be an American. #equality"

John Stamos: "I'm so happy about today's decision I could kiss a man!"

More at link.

Am I the only one who thinks a lot of these celebs use landmarks like this to somehow find a way to make it all about them? A lot of them don't even do anything for gay rights, but then pretend to be all excited when something good happens to keep their gay fans happy.

by Anonymousreply 106/26/2013

Justin Bieber: "congrats to my gay peeps! glad the judges are beliebers!!"

by Anonymousreply 206/26/2013

LOL r2, I even wondered for a second if it was real.

by Anonymousreply 306/26/2013

[quote]Am I the only one who thinks a lot of these celebs use landmarks like this to somehow find a way to make it all about them?

Human nature.

by Anonymousreply 406/26/2013

R2 At first I actually believed that little twerp wrote that, but then I looked at his Twitter and saw that he hasn't said a word about the issue. Figures that the little pussy thinks he's too good to say "congrats".

by Anonymousreply 706/26/2013

Has Ladybird Bachmann tweeted yet?

by Anonymousreply 806/26/2013

Nice to see that from Nick Jonas, who I believe is from a fundy background, right? And I assume there were always a lot of fundy Jonas Brothers fans with the purity rings, etc., so it's nice to see him not giving a shit about alienating any anti-gay-marriage fans.

by Anonymousreply 906/26/2013

R5, I don't think Jesus lover and ultra conservative Justin Bieber will say anything about it. His comment in the past was that being gay was a choice, and that he didn't "understand" it. Whatever the hell that means.

by Anonymousreply 1006/26/2013

The Nick Jonas one threw me, for the same reasons R9 stated. But so does John Stamos. I thought he was a Regressive.

People who AREN'T tweeting support are suspect. Rihanna. James Deen (whose income depends in part on quasi-lesbian scenes, yet can't bring himself to comment on lesbians' right to marry lest it lose him porn fans).

[quote]Nick Jonas: "We are all equal and have the right to love. So proud to be an American. #equality"

[quote]@ChandlerMassey: Goodbye DOMA! Your days of impeding the progress of equality are over. You're next tea party.

"Will, will you marry me?"

by Anonymousreply 3606/26/2013

It's probably true in some cases but not for all celebs. If you're working in this town 70% of your friends are gay.

by Anonymousreply 3706/26/2013

A friend of mine: "Either I have no conservative friends, or they're remaining pleasantly quiet today." Ha

by Anonymousreply 3806/26/2013

R1, sure there's probably a bit of self-promotion involved (and isn't it great that we've come so far we can be cynical about same-sex marriage support as a PR move rather than an unpopular position that might lose fans), but it has a positive effect - because it tells all of their Twitter followers that there's wide and varied support for same-sex marriage, and that it isn't a "fringe" or radical position. Look at this thread - people didn't know that Nick Jonas was a supporter - think how his followers and fans must feel, and how that might influence their own support or comfort with the idea, especially when they see so many other people they read about supporting it too.

While a majority of Americans now support same-sex marriage, it's still a slim majority (just over 50%), so any displays of support from public figures are a positive in my book.

by Anonymousreply 3906/26/2013

Any comments from Michele Bachmann or cockgobbler Aaron Schock(R-Closet)?

by Anonymousreply 4006/26/2013

Really r37, how ridiculously paranoid and cynical to imagine that no one in Hollywood genuinely likes gay people.

by Anonymousreply 4106/26/2013

[quote]Any comments from Michele Bachmann

No, but if I were her, I would be fearing a petition for divorce showing up any minute.

by Anonymousreply 4306/26/2013

[quote]Agree with [R1] in that the only one on that list who doesn't need the publicity is DiCaprio.

Exactly. And he's actually donated money to gay rights groups and donated over $60,000 at the GLAAD Awards this year. All the rest of those celebs don't do shit. Action speaks louder than words.

by Anonymousreply 4406/26/2013

[quote]Seriously, you'll hold it against someone if they don't tweet something RIGHT NOW!! [stamp feet]

If it's one of the ones that spend 24/7 on Twitter, then yes...especially if they have a large gay fanbase (Rihanna).

Shit, this is the funniest DL thread in ages, LMAO!

by Anonymousreply 5806/26/2013

I too thought the Jonas Bros were fundie Christians. And it's the hot one that tweeted, which is even better.

by Anonymousreply 5906/26/2013

It's hard to imagine, but I think there's a more liberal strain of fundie Christian. They aren't homophobic, but their number probably isn't that high. A lot of Hollywood Christians are like that though, they're more worldly than their trailer-trash counterparts.

by Anonymousreply 6006/26/2013

Brooklyn Decker also tweets support. The Roddicks are so much more likable in retirement.

by Anonymousreply 6106/26/2013

Justin Bieber is closely linked to anti-gay Evangelical Canadian PM, Stephen Harper - the one who tried to repeal equality in Canada but failed.

Bieber is a fundie, teenbeat, autotuned, karaoke singer.

by Anonymousreply 7306/26/2013

"None from Coopie either?"

Anderson Cooper is a journalist and has to remain neutral.

Daniel Sunjata is still tweeting about the Snowdown spy story so he has not yet tweeted about it.

Porn star Diesel Washington also has not yet ventured an opinion, though he has been on Twitter all day.

Limbaugh: "Nobody In This Country Has Ever Been Denied The Right To Get Married"

[quote]Courtney Love Cobain ‏@Courtney Yaaaaaay! Now the wedding planners can get married!! Congrats LGBT community! XC

r76 if you look at her twitter & I don't follow her, she mentions going on dates with a woman every once in a while, plus she's shown herself in various sexual poses in her IG with strippers and gfs.

by Anonymousreply 7806/26/2013

Mike Huckabee has been atwitter as well:

"5 people in robes said they are bigger than the voters of CA and Congress combined. And bigger than God.May He forgive us all."

"My thoughts on the SCOTUS ruling that determined that same sex marriage is okay: "Jesus wept.""

::

Apparently Jesus was dry-eyed after five people in robes made it easier for Republicans to disenfranchise minority voters.

by Anonymousreply 7906/26/2013

Rihanna is a drug addict. Her current thinking is dismissable.

by Anonymousreply 8006/26/2013

Huckabee says Jesus wept. I don't think he knew they were tears of joy.

by Anonymousreply 8306/26/2013

You missed my point r78. I'm not denying she's bi, I'm saying maybe she's an airhead who doesn't care about politics. Some people are apolitical, they don't like or pay attention to politics.

by Anonymousreply 8406/26/2013

What are the stars of my generation tweeting? Frankie Avalon, Bobby Rydell, Bobby Vee, Bobby Vinton, Lesley Gore, Connie Francis, Chubby Checker?

by Anonymousreply 8506/26/2013

Oddly enough, Cher hasn't said a damned thing about it, despite her headlining the Pierce Dance.

by Anonymousreply 8606/26/2013

Oh, DEAR!

The Pier Dance, even.

by Anonymousreply 8706/26/2013

Do they have Twitter in the afterlife, r85?

by Anonymousreply 8806/26/2013

Cher fucks up occasionally, like when she gushed her love of Joel Osteen on twitter, until her fans clued her in. People have said, why couldn't she have just assumed a megachurch pastor was anti-gay? Yes why couldn't she, it was really stupid. But I think we can say she does genuinely love gay people.

Unless she's tweeting other crap right now, she'll get around to it, must be busy.

by Anonymousreply 8906/26/2013

Dan Savage: My sham of a marriage puts me in the spotlight again! I'll rouse Terry soon - he can buy the groceries and feed the kid as I go out to suck 50 thick, black cocks. #cookiesandcream #myhubbyisapussy #funstoriesforthegrandkids

by Anonymousreply 9006/26/2013

Well Andy Cohen took credit for it. He said on Access Hollywood that by him putting all those out gays on TV, it had a lot to do with it.

by Anonymousreply 9106/26/2013

Here's a question I never thought I would be asking: What did the View coven say about stuff?

by Anonymousreply 9206/26/2013

I don't watch The View anymore. I moved on to The Talk (don't judge me - I read but my TV habits are shit). But in my experience, Hasselbeck is actually better on gay rights than Sheri "flat earth" Shepard.

by Anonymousreply 9306/26/2013

[R85], can't speak to your generation, but mine:

Jennifer Beals:let's give a halleleujah for the #SCOTUS ruling on #DOMA and #Prop8!

by Anonymousreply 9406/26/2013

yeah, am curious if Liz Hasselback is eating crow.

by Anonymousreply 9506/26/2013

Elisabeth actually has said numerous times that she's pro-equality.

It's just that everyone she votes for isn't.

by Anonymousreply 9606/26/2013

I think it's weird that some of these celebs think EVERY GAY can marry now. That's not true. Kristin Bell wrote she can get married now that everyone can marry. How lame is she?

by Anonymousreply 9706/26/2013

I'm shocked... you mean many celebrities aren't very bright?

by Anonymousreply 9806/26/2013

[quote]I'm shocked... you mean many celebrities aren't very bright?

Not "many," but an unfortunate few actors do manage to get into the industry despite low scores on their MPSAT.

by Anonymousreply 9906/26/2013

[quote]Maybe Rihanna's a bisexual, apolitical ditz though, has she admitted that, or can we just assume it?

Please. Rihanna is about as "bi" as Madonna (aka only when she needs to do something "shocking" for publicity).

Speaking of the old hag, so-called "gay icon" Vadge has not said a word yet about todays historic rulings on her Instagram. Shows how much she cares, yet dumb gays will still spend hundreds of dollars to see the old bitch treat them like shit.

by Anonymousreply 10306/26/2013

I'm completely uninterested in the Madonna/Gaga bullshit, but yes, you'll find Gaga's tweet at the link OP provided.

by Anonymousreply 10406/26/2013

Elisabitch made a complete about-face regarding marriage equality a few years ago. I wish she had discussed what caused her to have such a major change of heart. If she ever said why, I missed it.

by Anonymousreply 10506/26/2013

R105 Who cares if it was "about-face"? At least she's speaking out for it now.

As dumb as Elisabeth is, why does everyone give her a hard time, but not that fat ass Sherri who has flat-out said she doesn't agree with gay marriage? Bitch about her before anyone else.

by Anonymousreply 10606/26/2013

Trish Van Devere: I'm so pleased that gay Americans can now enter into the same loving marriages that George C. and I shared.

by Anonymousreply 10706/26/2013

How come James "Look at me!" Franco hasn't applauded the rulings or said anything? Oh, I forgot - he only talks about gays when he has a shitty project to promote. If it's not about him in some way, then it doesn't matter.

by Anonymousreply 10806/26/2013

Rihanna is also not American.

by Anonymousreply 10906/26/2013

R109 It's nice that you want to defend your little Retard Rihanna, but American or not, she spends the majority of her time here.

Quit making excuses for these straight female celebs that you worship that don't even give a damn about you.

by Anonymousreply 11006/26/2013

Mackelmore and Ryan Lewis did it early, eloquently, and most beautifully!

by Anonymousreply 11106/26/2013

[quote]Elisabitch made a complete about-face regarding marriage equality a few years ago. I wish she had discussed what caused her to have such a major change of heart. If she ever said why, I missed it.

She loves the gays for the same reason Kathie Lee loves them. Because they comprise a huge percentage of her support team. Her desire to be on TV trumps her faith and conservatism. Her "values" are defined solely by what's good for her.

by Anonymousreply 11206/26/2013

Go to www.google.com and search "gay".

by Anonymousreply 11306/26/2013

Elisabeth changed her mind after spending time with Melissa Ethridge and her family. Melissa answered all of Liz's questions. She came back to the View and explained her change of heart.

Tatyana Ali: "What an amazing day!!! #loveislove #MarriageEqualty days like today get me excited for our future."

by Anonymousreply 11506/26/2013

God, Hollywood actors are ridiculous, especially the closet cases.

They're tweeting their "support" from their closet.

pathetic and ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 11606/26/2013

R114 Thanks for answering, I was wondering about that myself.

by Anonymousreply 11706/26/2013

Has Janet Hubert weighed in yet? Would love to hear all the ways that Scalia reminds her of Will Smith.

by Anonymousreply 11806/26/2013

Speaking of Will Smith, any word? How about Tom Cruise, John Travolta? Jake Gyllenhaal?

Live by the tweeting sword, die by the tweeting sword. If a celebrity is constantly online and tweeting, and they aren't addressing this, that tells you a lot. And... support from closet cases is better than abject silence.

by Anonymousreply 11906/26/2013

Anything from Chris Crocker? I won't be able to go to bed tonight not knowing how he feels about this.

by Anonymousreply 12006/26/2013

[quote]Live by the tweeting sword, die by the tweeting sword. If a celebrity is constantly online and tweeting, and they aren't addressing this, that tells you a lot.

A good example of this is the Twitter founder himself Jack Dorsey. He tweets about stuff in the news multiple times a day and tweeted about the TX rulings, but hasn't said a word about the historic gay marriage rulings. I've always gotten a closeted vibe from him, so I wonder if he's trying not to attract attention.

by Anonymousreply 12106/26/2013

[quote]Anderson Cooper is a journalist and has to remain neutral.

Exactly. That's why Thomas Roberts and Rachel Maddow were silent today.

[quote]As dumb as Elisabeth is, why does everyone give her a hard time, but not that fat ass Sherri who has flat-out said she doesn't agree with gay marriage?

Edxactly R106. We ALL love DL fave Sherri Shepherd. Nobody has every claimed that she's a stupid, bigoted, hate-mongering, obnoxious, bitch. So glad you noticed how we all worthip her.

[quote]Have Amanda Bynes, Britney, Miley and LiLo checked in yet?

Nope, none of them:

Amanda called RuPaul a faggot the other week, so why would she have anything positive to say?

Britney hasn't said a thing. Like Rihanna, she's another straight woman that a lot of gays worship (for some reason) even though she doesn't do shit for gay rights.

LiLo is in rehab, so she hasn't said anything.

Miley has been on Twitter today, but didn't say a thing about the rulings - she's busy tweeting stupid shit about how she loves NY and her appearance on GMA.

by Anonymousreply 12506/26/2013

[quote]Britney hasn't said a thing. Like Rihanna, she's another straight woman that a lot of gays worship (for some reason) even though she doesn't do shit for gay rights.

Where are all your gay Britney fans located? I've never met one of them, ever!

by Anonymousreply 12606/26/2013

R124 Actually, that's kind of awesome for Twitter.

by Anonymousreply 12706/26/2013

The gays love Nick Jonas.

by Anonymousreply 12806/26/2013

by Anonymousreply 12906/26/2013

Beyonce supports gay marriage. That cunt Rihanna does not.

by Anonymousreply 13006/27/2013

I know many of these Tweets are just hot air and ultimately mean nothing in the scheme of things BUT the silence of active Twitter users like James Franco is especially telling.

[quote]It's hard to imagine, but I think there's a more liberal strain of fundie Christian. They aren't homophobic, but their number probably isn't that high.

OP here. I have a number of friends and co-workers who are Christian. NOT ONE OF THEM bitched about today's ruling. Granted, most of them are under 30, but I've said in the past that DL gives "fundies" way too much undeserved shit, and today's events prove it.

[quote]Kristin Bell wrote she can get married now that everyone can marry. How lame is she?

Well, if we're being technical, every gay American *can* marry and have it recognized by the federal government. The catch, of course, is that they have to do it in a state that's legalized gay marriage, and also won't get any state-level recognition if they live full-time in a state that disallows gay marriage.

by Anonymousreply 13306/27/2013

Hey R122 that's not right about Thomas Roberts and Rachael Maddow!

I just double checked and they either initiated or re-tweeted DOMA / Prop 8 stuff today!

by Anonymousreply 13406/27/2013

Madonna On Prop 8 Being Dismissed In California:

[quote]I'm wearing a smile from ear to ear.

R136, actually it was posted on Facebook around 11am this morning.

by Anonymousreply 13806/27/2013

[quote]"What a way to start my day!! I'm wearing a smile from ear to ear. There is a G-D! Justice is served. Hallelujah !!"

Did she actually use a hyphen instead of an "o"? Still into that ridiculous kaballah crap?

by Anonymousreply 13906/27/2013

R139 Oh, so basically she's so irrelevant that people are just now reading what she had to say? Wow, that's sad when John Stamos and Alyssa Milano are quoted before you.

by Anonymousreply 14006/27/2013

"I've said in the past that DL gives 'fundies' way too much undeserved shit, and today's events prove it."

The fundies here in the South are a different breed. They need to be fought constantly.

by Anonymousreply 14106/27/2013

WTF are you talking about? All I referenced was the use of a hyphen by a shiksa.

She's fucking Catholic.

by Anonymousreply 14206/27/2013

by Anonymousreply 14406/27/2013

A group of Southern hicks could beat a gay man to death...but DL is more concerned with calling Madonna a CUNT.

by Anonymousreply 14506/27/2013

R145 = Madbot

by Anonymousreply 14606/27/2013

VERY surprised that Cher didn't tweet a thing about it, even though she was on Twitter today. She's more concerned about her shitty song "Woman's World" that flopped and her upcoming appearances.

by Anonymousreply 14706/27/2013

Seriously. Have we heard anything from Bill Clinton?

by Anonymousreply 14806/27/2013

Someone please post closeted celebrities tweets on this issue!

by Anonymousreply 14906/27/2013

Not a celebrity, but certainly a well-known closet case - a vile, putrid closet case:

Lindsey Graham ‏@GrahamBlog 11h

Key point, today’s SCOTUS ruling will not change South Carolina law & I'll continue to fight for & defend traditional definition of marriage

Lindsey Graham Lindsey Graham ‏@GrahamBlog 11h

I was disappointed with today’s outcome, but respect the Court’s decision. #DOMA

Lindsey Graham Lindsey Graham ‏@GrahamBlog 11h

I voted for #DOMA as a member of the House of Representatives & as Senator wrote a brief to the Supreme Court to uphold this important law.

Lindsey Graham Lindsey Graham ‏@GrahamBlog 11h

I have been a strong supporter of the Defense of Marriage Act.

Lindsey Graham Lindsey Graham ‏@GrahamBlog 11h

I believe in the traditional definition of marriage. South Carolinians have repeatedly said that is the definition they support as well.

White trash.

by Anonymousreply 15006/27/2013

R140 YES Madonna's so irrelevant that Forbes named her the 5th most powerful celebrity in the world this past year and thr highest earning celeb making $125 million and knocking Oprah from the top.

Also Madonna doesn't have a Twitter, she released a statement instead.

The DL is still so obsessed with Madonna, yet they say she's irrelevant

by Anonymousreply 15106/27/2013

What has Gaga said or Cher? Madonna issues a statement and still gets bashed om the DL yet those 2 have a Twitter account and are supposedly "gay icons" and haven't said anything

by Anonymousreply 15206/27/2013

First you bag on Madonna because she doesn't issue a statement. Then you bag on her because in your estimation, she didn't issue her statement soon enough.

Where the hell is Oprah? The only social activity she had today seemed to be about some sort of new deal with her shitty network to run those new web-only soap operas.

Where was Janet Jackson? Or is she too busy still taking garbage bags full of money out of Michael Jackson's house?

As far as the celebrities and "celebrities" that have tweeted their support, I think it's all real. The only people in Hollywood who stand out when it comes to marriage equality are the ones that do NOT support it--the Kirk Cameron's of the world. Incidentally, today Anna Wintour tweeted for the first time ever, and it was her overwhelming support for marriage equality.

by Anonymousreply 15306/27/2013

r153, you make too much sense for DL.

by Anonymousreply 15406/27/2013

There is almost a dearth of African-Americans tweeting about today's decision. Not Russell Simmons, not Beyonce, not Rihanna, not on MTO's website, not on JayZ's twitter, not on Bossp, not anywhere. The only site I saw any mention was Sandra Rose and none of the commenters said anything about it.

by Anonymousreply 15506/27/2013

If you'd bother reading, R152, it has already been stated hours ago that GAGA has tweeted support, you lazy fuck.

by Anonymousreply 15606/27/2013

R151, Forbes Magazine is irrelevant.

by Anonymousreply 15706/27/2013

R153, yes. Thank you.

I'm glad that people want to add their voice of support for a rare moment of satisfaction, whatever its limitations. The fact that they are celebrities doesn't bother me. And continuing to show the overwhelming support for equal rights for gay people serves a purpose.

But I don't fault people for not being public about it, and I don't assume they are less than glad because of not jumping in.

In other words, I trust good people to be happy, and confused people and assholes to be unhappy about it. And I don't need any of their approval or rancor to be happy about the decision myself.

We know who our friends are. And to go after Madonna (who I don't like) or Gaga (who I like) makes no sense. They both have done a lot for gay people.

by Anonymousreply 15806/27/2013

Surprised about Nick Jonas but good for him. Probably nothing from his closeted brothers, I'm guessing.

by Anonymousreply 15906/27/2013

Has Diana Ross ever done anything for gay rights in her entire career? She's the only mega-diva from the 70s who hasn't embraced the gay community.

by Anonymousreply 16006/27/2013

It took Diana forever to even give an interview with a gay magazine, I believe it wasn't until the 90s. But she did eventually give that interview, I remember reading it, she said she's always enjoying to gay bars for the great music played. She also did that very campy video for her cover of I Will Survive, which included RuPaul. So she's certainly no hero to the gay rights movement, but I'd be hesitant to accuse her of anything beyond that.

by Anonymousreply 16106/27/2013

[quote] Has Diana Ross ever done anything for gay rights in her entire career?

Well, she did briefly date that tranny Marilyn in the mid 80s, if that counts.

by Anonymousreply 16206/27/2013

enjoying = enjoyed going

by Anonymousreply 16306/27/2013

Three words r160:

I'm Coming Out

Also the video for her version of the oh so fresh "I Will Survive"

by Anonymousreply 16406/27/2013

But Nile did have to hide the true meaning of "I'm Coming Out" to Diana. He didn't admit it was written as a gay anthem until many years later, although he says his main worry was her record company objecting, not her. I'm sure she doesn't care, but she didn't record it knowing its meaning, not according to Nile.

by Anonymousreply 16506/27/2013

"And... support from closet cases is better than abject silence."

Bullshit. They're covering their bases. It's a business decision.

by Anonymousreply 16606/27/2013

[quote]Madonna On Prop 8 Being Dismissed In California:"What a way to start my day!!

by Anonymousreply 16806/27/2013

I read that Miss Ross was uneasy recording it at first cause she got the implication r165. Didn't know that, so thanks for the info.

Anyway, the ones who really took a while to "come out" were Mariah and Whitney. They were so bland and characterless for the first few years of their careers when they had all the #1s.

Now Whit you could clearly see had major attitude bubbling below the surface - especially seen in interviews. Mariah not so much. Whitney did the gay pride thing and performed the shitty dance mixes of her songs.. Mimi I'm not sure, but she became freer during Butterfly and one video had her doing a take off of Cabaret, I think.

by Anonymousreply 16906/27/2013

Diana Ross has never done a damn thing for gay rights, which is one of the reasons I don't understand why she's considered a gay icon.

I remember that interview - it was in The Advocate in 1999 and I precisely remember the interviewer asking her if she thought gays should be able to marry and she said a few times in it that gays don't need a marriage to be together and finally she said "I haven't thought about it enough". I was done with her then and there and I think most gays were because she hasn't released a studio album of original material since.

Add Mariah Carey, Whoopi Goldberg, Kerry Washington, Gabrielle Union, and Jada Pinkett Smith to that list - all celebs who tweet almost everyday yet didn't say a thing about the gay marriage rulings.

It's amazing how it took a black president to push for gay rights, yet it's black people in general who seem iffy about it. Go figure.

@BlakeBerris: what an incredible step forward for our country @NOH8Campaign #DOMA #Days #gaymarriage

by Anonymousreply 17706/27/2013

Is that NoH8 campaign well designed? Great intentions and everything, but the tape over the mouth is not giving out good connotations to me - and not in the milk ads way either. Does the trick in being memorable though, certainly. Kinda like the PETA ones, all fame whores need apply.

Just saw the parody of it by the Phelps family in another thread. Oh dear.

by Anonymousreply 17806/27/2013

R124 Why does that second one sound like it was written by a publicist?

by Anonymousreply 17906/27/2013

What are Aretha's views on gay marriage?

by Anonymousreply 18006/27/2013

No tweets coming from DL fave James Franco. According to DL fave Perez Hilton, Franco is hiding from attornies who plan to sue him.

by Anonymousreply 18106/27/2013

[quote]What are Aretha's views on gay marriage?

Well, she performed at a gay wedding a few years ago, but of course she got paid to do it, so that really doesn't prove anything. A lot of people will do things for money whether or not they agree with it.

by Anonymousreply 18206/27/2013

R182 = Elton John

by Anonymousreply 18306/27/2013

Mariah retweeted Obama's tweet about the ruling.

by Anonymousreply 18406/27/2013

So did Pink.

by Anonymousreply 18506/27/2013

I think it's odd some people are waiting on the approval of celebrities. I will bet Justin Bieber doesn't know what DOMA is, nor would he care. He's a 19yr old straight boy whose hobbies include doin' drugs and behaving like a brat. Rihanna is pretty much his female equivalent.

A lot of celebs are sheltered and uninformed and if doesn't directly relate to them then it's considered irrelevant or not worth knowing.

by Anonymousreply 18606/27/2013

Rihanna is too busy taking drugs and licking the pussies of strippers.

by Anonymousreply 18706/27/2013

[quote]The gays love Nick Jonas.

Well, they better keep their hands off him!

Not to mention that neither of them is American.

by Anonymousreply 18906/27/2013

Joan Van Ark: I am so happy I'm going to have my nose reduced!

by Anonymousreply 19006/27/2013

I don't think it's wanting approval, just knowing whether or not people whose work you enjoy and/or you might help to support financially believe you have basic rights. And such.

by Anonymousreply 19106/27/2013

R189 But both of them live in America full time for the most part.

by Anonymousreply 19206/27/2013

[quote]John Stamos: "I'm so happy about today's decision I could kiss a man!"

For the three hundredth time!

by Anonymousreply 19306/27/2013

In Franco's defense, he doesn't tweet about anything that's not self-promotion. So I doubt it's that he doesn't support same sex marriage, it's more likely that if it doesn't involve making more money for Franco, it isn't tweeted. It also looks like it might be PR-ran.

Sort of surprised there's nothing from Miley. She's gone out of her way to be pro-LGBT on twitter several times, including several weeks ago about the lesbian couple that's going to be on a Disney Channel sitcom.

by Anonymousreply 19406/27/2013

AfAm celebrities (whom I follow) who have commented/retweeted on marriage equality:

John Legend, Shonda Rhimes, Audra McDonald, Ankia Noni Rose, Tracie Thoms, Jennifer Beals, Dionne Warwick, Tracee Ellis Ross, Amber Patrice Riley, Bill Clinton

(Kerry Washington is not on twitter right now- it's summer people!)

by Anonymousreply 19506/27/2013

"Dionne Warwick"

I love this. Did she tweet her support in the form of trenchant commentary on others?

by Anonymousreply 19606/27/2013

Bill Clinton is colored??!!

by Anonymousreply 19706/27/2013

Audra McDonald was probably one of the first. She is like the ultimate straight ally.

by Anonymousreply 19806/27/2013

I can't help but think that James Franco would prefer gays to be less mainstream, just so that he can seem edgy portraying gay roles, aka appropriating the gay community in the pursuit of his "art."

by Anonymousreply 19906/27/2013

Instead of attacking stars who didn't tweet(maybe they just aren't glued to twitter, or don't follow the news at all and care more about partying) we should be going after PATHETIC ASSHOLES Lindsay Graham and Mike Huckabee for tweeting homophobic shit.

by Anonymousreply 20006/27/2013

I love Rob Delaney.

by Anonymousreply 20106/27/2013

[quote]Instead of attacking stars who didn't tweet(maybe they just aren't glued to twitter, or don't follow the news at all and care more about partying)

Most of the people brought up were celebs who actively tweet (like every day or several times a day) and have a big gay fan base.

[quote]Has Marilu Henner commented?

Nope. And she's been on Twitter both today and yesterday.

by Anonymousreply 20606/28/2013

Re: Aretha - as far as I know she's commented very little about gay rights, but I don't think she's homophobic. I don't have much evidence of that but there is this, she's had Rupaul perform for her at her birthday twice. Twice definitely means she's a real fan, so she probably also watches his show. That doesn't sound phobic to me.

by Anonymousreply 20706/28/2013

Rob Bieber

by Anonymousreply 21606/29/2013

Justin's only public comment on homosexuality, circa 2011

“It’s everyone’s own decision to do that. It doesn’t affect me and shouldn’t affect anyone else.”

He's a soon-to-be hassbeen. Who cares what he thinks?

by Anonymousreply 21706/29/2013

Britney is a Republican. She told everyone that they needed to respect Bush when he was in office.

Lindsay is another freeper, who publicly endorsed Romney last election.

Diana Ross is not anti gay.

The Babs fanatics forget that she was virtually non-existant during the mid to late 80's on gay issues. It really wasn't until her son came out that she became visible on it. Vanity Fair called her out on it.

by Anonymousreply 21906/29/2013
