Surgery

Having surgery in a few weeks. Any DL's have any suggestions, any books to put me in a positive frame of mind (no, girl, Sophie's Choice doesn't count)?

What should be on my iPod?

I'm sorry to tell you this, but this is the worst time of the year for hospital surgery. I had my surgery at this time of years several years ago.

I wasn't aware of this at the time, but hospital resident assignments begin in late June or early July so the odds of your getting a first-time surgeon (especially in a large, teaching hospital) are high. They are inexperienced and prone to mistakes. And I speak from experience. A simple, out-patient hernia surgery turned into a nightmare.

Any possibility you can postpone your operation?

My favorite DL name.

I already met my surgeon Casper, and he's very experienced. (And might I say, cute.)

He's doing my op. I already verified that he would NOT be handing me off to an intern.

But thank you for the heads up!

Casper, do you have a theme song too?

I'm scared to death, girls.

I'm convinced I'm not going to survive.

Odds are that within seventy-five years you'll be dead as a doornail.

Are you having ancient surgery for ancients, OP? None of us know what your aesthetic sensibilities are (the Lascaux caves or something more recent).

Read the Totie Fields biography.

What kind of operation?

Books: All My Friends Are Dead by Jory John & Avery Monsen

IPod: Hurt by Johnny Cash

I'm reading "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead" by Warren Zevon. Very funny guy.

I'd also recommend Dave Barry's books if you want light and funny.

If you enjoy mysteries, I have been reading a series of light mysteries by a Dutch author, and I've been reading a number of Scandinavian authors.

Coma is a good read. Or you can watch the film version
