Jeff Zucker eems to be making quick work of turning around CNN

I tuned out shortly before the election last year, I thought for good, and have been watching MSNBC since then. Tuned in this morning and it's actually watchable now. The new morning show looks like a good mix too.

by Anonymousreply 5306/18/2013

What changes has he made other than the AM show?

by Anonymousreply 106/15/2013

I haven't watched in years, but all I need to know is he hired Newt Gingrich and keeps the insufferable douchebag Wolf Blitzer.

Will continue to not watch..

by Anonymousreply 206/15/2013

Piers has got to go!!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 306/15/2013

It's still crap, OP.

by Anonymousreply 406/15/2013

Until they've gotten rid of Piers Morgan I cannot take CNN seriously.

by Anonymousreply 506/15/2013

Newt? Seriously?

by Anonymousreply 606/15/2013

Isn't Newt Gingrich more of a Fox News type? Is CNN trying to steal some thunder from Fox?

by Anonymousreply 706/15/2013

Isn't Newt Gingrich more of a Fox News type? Is CNN trying to steal some thunder from Fox?

by Anonymousreply 806/15/2013

The only one who should be hired is Ted Turner and his first move should be to fire everyone including Zucker.

by Anonymousreply 906/15/2013

It won't be watchable until they take Wolf Blitzer out to the barn and put him down.

by Anonymousreply 1006/15/2013

It's becoming more like FOX News if that's what you mean, OP.

by Anonymousreply 1106/15/2013

With Blitzer, it seems like they'd sooner try to come up with a fucking eighth day of the week just to put him on rather than get the hint that there's too much of him - and I say that as someone who doesn't watch CNN anymore (REALLY).

by Anonymousreply 1206/15/2013

Zucker has put a new tie on a corpse. CNN is over. Close the casket. Light the candle.

by Anonymousreply 1306/15/2013

CNN is far from over, but its reputation as a serious news organization has been severely tarnished for a quite a few years now. It can't even do breaking news properly without a few awkward exchanges or fumbling on the facts.

It was supposed to be the middle ground between MSNBC and Fox News. Instead, it opted to appeal to the lowest common denominator of viewers who love soundbites, shallow political discussions, sensational, headline-grabbing crime dramas, and talking heads who lack the ability to convince the audience that they know the issues better than their viewers. Let's not even start with their superfluous use of gadgets and 3D images to illustrate the point to their ADHD viewers.

If you love wall-to-wall coverages of Jodi Arias, the poop cruise, and Zimmerman over real issues that affect Americans, this is the cable news station for you.

by Anonymousreply 1406/16/2013

Newt Gingrich, Fran Townsend, Ari Fleischer are not going to bring in big ratings for CNN, anyone could figure that out but they still haven't.

I wonder how "New Day" will be. I don't watch those morning shows, but I'm curious. Cuomo is weird and awkward and Bouldan is nothing special and I don't know the other lady.

by Anonymousreply 1506/16/2013

The "other lady" is going to be the one people tune in for. She is great.

by Anonymousreply 1606/16/2013

There is almost a complete lack of international news on CNN, while they focus on weather-porn, celebrity-fucking and other insipidness.

I've actually started watching Al Jazeera America, god help me.

by Anonymousreply 1706/16/2013

r15 they're bringing on Fran Townsend and Ari Fleischer, too? Jesus. The media and political pundits decry the lack of moderate voices in the Republican Party and yet CNN is stretching out to the furthest of Republican extremes for their POV? Might as well hire all of W's cabinet.

What a shitty news network. Why do some of you watch it?

by Anonymousreply 1806/16/2013

Fox News still is killing the others in ratings.

by Anonymousreply 1906/16/2013

Fox News also predicted a Romney win and misreported the Supreme Court ruling on Obamacare. So what r19. It exists in its own ideological world and is not an indication of how people vote or feel about issues.

by Anonymousreply 2006/16/2013

I heard that Jeff Zucker may bring Katie to CNN.

Her show is not doing well so Jeff Zucker jumped ship and went to CNN. Now that Jeff is all set up revamping CNN, he may bring Katie.

CNN desperately need a star.

by Anonymousreply 2106/16/2013

He alo tried for Ann Curry but NBC won't let her out of her contract.

Was it Zucker who gave Matt Lauer his long-term contract?

by Anonymousreply 2206/16/2013

Zucker has already left NBC for years before Lauer's contract was renewed.

by Anonymousreply 2306/16/2013

[quote]I've actually started watching Al Jazeera America, god help me.

Why "god help me"? Because you believed Rumsfeld, Cheney and Bush?

by Anonymousreply 2406/16/2013

Heaven forbid they hire fewer neo cons.

by Anonymousreply 2506/16/2013

Al Jazeera America? Ghida Fakhry looks like a Lebanese Sharon Tate. She's really pretty and a good reporter BUT I don't know if she's taken seriously because of her beauty though.

Zucker fucked up NBC and brought that flop Katie to CNN. I mean how many times does someone get to fuck something up.

R21 Katie is a star? Her CBS news spot tanked as is her Oprah lite show. I would hardly call her a star anymore.

by Anonymousreply 2606/16/2013

NO, no Katie. And he needs to can Candy Crowley. What an annoying stuttering clown she is. She's a shill for the GOP always has been. Lose the whale.

by Anonymousreply 2706/16/2013

Flipped over to CNN's morning show the other day, because Morning Joe was getting on my nerves-again. I was really disappointed. It was shallow, going for the most obvious headline grabber on every subject. And then, there is the commercial practically every 30 seconds. Couldn't stand it.

I'd really like a Morning Joe without Joe and Mika. Get some other people with name recognition. One could even be a conservative, provided he or she wasn't a total idiot. I think the format is good and the guests are very good. Plus, some of the experts need to be redone. They need to keep Dr. Zeke Emanuel as their medical expert, and dump that entitled bitch Nancy Snyderman, for example.

by Anonymousreply 2806/16/2013

The brightest thing Zucker has done is bringing in George Strombo. He's creative, an excellent interviewer, a fresh and exciting new face. He should replace Piers Morgan. The Sunday evening spot absolutely stinks, more the place for Morgan than for the channel's brightest light.

by Anonymousreply 2906/16/2013

The only time I hear about CNN is when the network seriously fucks up - about once a week.

CNN would have to fire everyone to salvage its reputation. The Daily Show, Reddit, The Atlantic, and even Business Insider and Buzzfeed have smelled blood in the water.

by Anonymousreply 3006/16/2013

AC360 was at least 90% concerned with the Turkish riots earlier this week. I took that as a good sign.

Now if only that untalented little bitch Erin Burnett got fired...

by Anonymousreply 3106/16/2013

Every time I turn on AC360 it's just nothing but a rehashing of republican talking points.

by Anonymousreply 3206/16/2013

I watched the English version of al Jazeera when I was in Egypt. It was quite a step above any of the US cable news networks. In-depth reporting on issues typically ignores in US media. Discussions were panels of experts on the topic at hand, not a cast of professional bloviators. More balanced in terms of Israel that US media. (I suspect the Arabic version is quite different.)

by Anonymousreply 3306/16/2013

Dump Blitzer, pussy hound John King, Candy Crowley, Gloria BOR-ger, Piers Morgan and that bitch Erin Burnett.

by Anonymousreply 3406/16/2013

I would like to explore George Strombo's no-no, which I believe to be quite hairy, moist, musky and inviting...

by Anonymousreply 3506/16/2013

R34, totally agree. And they can also lose Dana Bash, Jessica Yellin and Jake Tapper.

by Anonymousreply 3606/16/2013

I stopped watching CNN... because a friend told me the red and white logo for the network burned onto the screen of his plasma and he sees a faint outline of the logo when he watches TV.

by Anonymousreply 3706/16/2013

CNN could start going back to basics.

by Anonymousreply 3806/16/2013

Fire the whole fucking crew and replace it with CNN International. I can't think of anyone at CNN worth keeping. They all suck.

by Anonymousreply 3906/17/2013

Well... if the DL news-junkies are any indication...

No, Jeff Zucker eems to not be making quick work of turning around CNN.

Nice try, OP. Hey, how is it, working at CNN?

by Anonymousreply 4006/17/2013

I just turned over to watch CNN for a bit (haven't done so in months) and caught Don Lemon trying to interview a pathologist. I say trying, because he spent his time admonishing the guy to sit still because his mike was brushing his tie, and the rest of the time ineptly reading the next question on his list to which the pathologist had already answered.

Really, one of the dimmest bulbs on cable.

by Anonymousreply 4106/17/2013

To keep Don Lemon, Victor Blackwell, Brroke Baldwin, Brianna Keilar, Alison Kosik, Suzanne M, probably a few others,

by Anonymousreply 4206/17/2013

What is R42 trying to say? To whom is he replying?

by Anonymousreply 4306/17/2013

OP is a shill.

The heavy set woman is some reporter from L.A. who the hired to do both the news reading and the entertainment reporting. Expect to see her doing LOTS of 'wacky' stories, head nodding celeb interviews and of course the inevitable personal drama pieces a'la Robin Roberts.

Boston police are searching for a dark skinned male.

by Anonymousreply 4506/17/2013

Wolf, I’ve never seen anything like it before. Being in Watertown right now the streets are empty. It’s eerie. It’s as though a bomb had dropped somewhere and the streets are clear.

by Anonymousreply 4606/17/2013

Something just happened. We don’t know what it is.

We smell smoke, people running to the center, cars going straight, cars turning to the right. Whether they cordoned off this block, we can see a helicopter that is up in the air. Something has just happened. Police officers are running, we have a dog, a dog that’s on its way. Interesting, that dog is barking. Whether that’s a canine, we don’t know.

by Anonymousreply 4706/17/2013

Healthcare. Supreme Court. Overturned.

You suck, CNN.

by Anonymousreply 4806/17/2013

You're blessed! Your son is blessed. Your husband Brian is blessed. You gotta thank the lord for your split second decision Do you thank the lord?

by Anonymousreply 4906/17/2013

R43 - Those are the people to keep.

by Anonymousreply 5006/17/2013

CNN now has Spurlock doing documentary style things

Ridley Scott doing cold cases

Bourdain doing travel stuff.

[quote]Michael Wolff ‏@MichaelWolffNYC 19h Why Jeff Zucker thinks politics is for dweebers and CNN is for the rest of us (maybe)

by Anonymousreply 5106/17/2013

Hey R42, thanks for clarifying! I agree with your list; I would add Fareed Zakaria. I love his Sunday AM show.

by Anonymousreply 5206/18/2013

I keep forgetting to watch New Day.
