FYI to Datalounge subscribers or future subscribers:
Your CC or debit charge/billing is now listed as DATALOUNGE.COM, not Mediapolis Inc or whatever it said before.
So much for [italic]"Your Privacy Matters to Us ... as a person who identifies as a member of the greater LGBT communities or as a person who may have same-sex encounters without identifying with any community, you may have a strong interest in keeping your personal orientations or behaviors private."[/italic]

Sounds like your issue is with your bank and your inability to tell someone to mind their own business.
|by Anonymous||reply 6||06/14/2013|
R1, R3 and R6 - why so invested?
PS: I'm a bit unnerved at this as well, OP. It's the principle of the thing.
Having said that, I hope you told the banker to mind his own business.

the guys at my bank are cute, if they knew what DL was that would be my segue to asking them out
Im curious to know why anyone at a bank would be reading off your charges, if they did this over the phone, who cares?

this never happened.
|by Anonymous||reply 13||06/14/2013|
Okay, who the hell 1) has a credit card issued by their bank and 2) EVER has a conversation with a bank employee regarding an $18 charge? This doesn't pass the smell test. The only conversations I've EVER had with a credit card issuer regarding individual charges -- over the 20-plus years I've had them -- have been when I've unintentionally set off a fraud alert, e.g. by making an unusually large purchase or buying something in a foreign country.

Yeah the only people this really affects are the married closet cases, of which DL has a surprising amount as you see with posters always defending being in the closet-yawn, it's 2013.
|by Anonymous||reply 16||06/14/2013|
R10 Thinking all the money a person has is deposited in a bank account says more about you thank you would care to admit.
|by Anonymous||reply 17||06/14/2013|
I'm not a closet case. It's the principle of the thing. I am at a small bank and was going through a few charges that I didn't make. While going through the charges, line by line, the guy said, "Oh, I love Datalounge!" I just nodded, and I think it made him a bit uncomfortable.
I don't care if he knows I'm gay, [italic]however, I think people have a right to be private. [/italic]
I can see how something like this could be a problem for someone else.
|by Anonymous||reply 18||06/14/2013|
Who said "all"? Not me. But if you have so little that an $18 charge gets noticed, you have close to "none".

R19 So now you are admitting that the cute guys at the bank really dont know how much money OP has?
|by Anonymous||reply 21||06/14/2013|
R21, you really are a little thick, aren't you?
|by Anonymous||reply 23||06/14/2013|
There could be a potential issue if someone finds out that you subscribe to this site, and they go and see the crap that is written on here. It has very little to do with being in the closet. It has to do with the site itself. Your boss gets word that you pay for a site that talks about scat, there then could be an issue -- and in the age of Anonymous, yes, people will forward info to your boss to get you into trouble, whether it be for vindictive purposes or just for shits and giggles.
Also, whoever typed up the unfunny, sans witty shit in OP's link, needs to give up their day job, which is probably (not) moderating the site.

R26 Still cant answer the question? Hmmmmm....I wonder why?
|by Anonymous||reply 28||06/14/2013|
[quote]Wow, a thread full of cunts and it's not even happy hour.
It must be Happy Hour for webbie since he put the place on primetime lockdown. No doubt that's one way to bring everything to a standstill again.
The notice you get from DL when you pay, clearly states: [bold]Note the charge on your credit card will be from Mediapolis and will not carry any mention of the DataLounge.[/bold]
I can understand why some people would be upset. This change in policy should have been brought out in a special notice on the opening page.
|by Anonymous||reply 29||06/14/2013|
That's because Amazon bought Mediapolis out and I guess they don't want to acknowledge it.
|by Anonymous||reply 30||06/14/2013|
Lighten up, Frances.
A notification of how the billing will appear is appropriate at the time the order is placed/charge authorized.
If you don't like how it will appear, don't join. If you were told it would appear one way and within a few weeks you find out that it appeared another way, take it up with the Webmaster.
If you're bitching about something that happened months ago that you're only bothering about now, you haven't got much of a complaint.
|by Anonymous||reply 31||06/14/2013|
There is many things to be upset about in this horrible world we inhabit.

Folks, the WEBMASTER is telling you NOW, so he doesn't have to tell you LATER (on your CC bill).
|by Anonymous||reply 35||06/14/2013|
Why would you want to hide a subscription to the datalounge? It's a gossip site, and, as we have seen recently, is frequently visited by a growing number of... heterosexuals. How closeted are you?
Do you still recieve your Blueboy magazines in a brown paper wrapper?
|by Anonymous||reply 36||06/14/2013|
OP call your mother about it.........
|by Anonymous||reply 38||06/14/2013|
OP, how had you not already noticed the charge from "Datalounge.com" if you were aware of some other charges on your bill?
|by Anonymous||reply 39||06/14/2013|
Sorry, but OP's story makes no sense. First he says its an invasion of privacy. Then later he says it really doesn't bother him. Throw in there the "guy at the bank" (strange how he has no title) became uncomfortable after saying he loves Datalounge. WTF? I'm sorry, but when so much of a story doesn't add up, its usually because its bullshit.
|by Anonymous||reply 40||06/14/2013|
[quote]Throw in there the "guy at the bank" (strange how he has no title)
That's so lame. Do you work in a bank? Who on earth would ever know the title of someone who works there unless you demanded to see the president of the bank? The only other one who would know bank titles are bank employees.
|by Anonymous||reply 41||06/14/2013|
[quote]Who on earth would ever know the title of someone who works there
Well lets see, the people behind the counter are called "tellers" and the people who sit at desks are called "account managers" or "loan officers" or have some other title which is usually displayed on their office doors or a little sign on their desk.
You should visit a bank sometime, you will find it very informative.
|by Anonymous||reply 42||06/14/2013|
R42. It is not 1985
Our tellers are call customer service agents now
|by Anonymous||reply 43||06/14/2013|
At the three banks in our town, R42, there is only one person seated behind a desk in a glass-enclosed room. No way to know their official title - probably branch manager or vice president, or whatever. Why would anyone even care as long as the bank is doing their job? It's still a silly call to say OP screwed up by not providing the title of someone who was probably just a lowly teller --- as if that really mattered except to some teller posting here. MARY!
|by Anonymous||reply 44||06/14/2013|
Big deal, in fact, datalounge sounds and looks better than the sketchy mediapolis.
|by Anonymous||reply 45||06/14/2013|
[quote]It's still a silly call to say OP screwed up by not providing the title
I didnt say he screwed up, I said its one more detail that makes no sense and leads me to believe this "story" is just that, a story. Fiction.
|by Anonymous||reply 46||06/14/2013|
[quote]I don't care if he knows I'm gay, however, I think people have a right to be private.
I don't see the issue. I have bank statements with many companies listed. I could perhaps understand if DL was a porno site, but it's just an internet board.
If you have a concern that if an extreme right government got in and the information was used against you, it doesn't matter as that sort of administration would find out through your IP or similar.
I really don't see why this bothers you, or why it is any different to having Amazon on your bank statement in term of your right to privacy.
|by Anonymous||reply 48||06/14/2013|
[quote] I said its one more detail that makes no sense
Again, a totally silly observation regarding a call customer service agent. For anyone to act as if that's vital to the story or to even mention it in the first place ---- [bold]MARY!!!!!!!![/bold] Are you retired from banking or still working at it?
|by Anonymous||reply 49||06/14/2013|
My payment said Mediapolis just a couple months ago. I think OP may be making a fake story in order to discourage people from paying their $18.
|by Anonymous||reply 50||06/14/2013|
[quote]For anyone to act as if that's vital to the story or to even mention it in the first place ---- MARY!!!!!!!!
I never said it was vital to the story. This is the second time you are insisting I wrote something I did not. You should punch whoever it was who taught you to read because they did a pretty poor job by you.
|by Anonymous||reply 51||06/14/2013|
Wow, you guys never fail to amaze.
Yes, it DID happen, and Mary Francis at R40, R42, etc.. I assume he was a teller, but I didn't ask. Who the fuck cares?
Here's a screen shot of said statement - I went to the bank because of the Costco debit, which I did not make. I didn't even pay attention to the datalounge reference on the bill until the TELLER mentioned it. Then I thought, "Shit, this could be a problem for someone else".. So that's why I posted.
Again I don't give a fuck, but some people do - especially since it has always been billed as Mediaopolis, and the billing switch to the exact website name may be a surprise for some.
The bottom line is the fact that:
1) SOMEONE might care
2) What R29 said. "The notice you get from DL when you pay, clearly states: Note the charge on your credit card will be from Mediapolis and will not carry any mention of the DataLounge."
|by Anonymous||reply 52||06/14/2013|
[quote]I really don't see why this bothers you, or why it is any different to having Amazon on your bank statement in term of your right to privacy.
Not the OP here, but if you can't see the difference, you're an idiot.
Just the other day someone in the DL Facebook group could not log on to DL because it was blocked by the place where he was using his laptop, a coffee shop, I think. Said it was categorized as porn. So, there you go.
Here it is.
|by Anonymous||reply 53||06/14/2013|
If you don't give a fuck OP, why post a loaded statement that it's about privacy?
|by Anonymous||reply 54||06/14/2013|
R54 doesn't get it.
Obviously OP isn't a self absorbed asshole who only cares about HIS privacy. Believe it or not, some of us actually think about others once in a while. Did you not read where OP said "Shit, this could be a problem for someone else".. So that's why I posted."" ??
Add the fact that as OP posted, Datalounge states:
[italic]"Your Privacy Matters to Us ... as a person who identifies as a member of the greater LGBT communities or as a person who may have same-sex encounters without identifying with any community, [bold]you may have a strong interest in keeping your personal orientations or behaviors private."[/bold][italic]
Some of you are really selfish little cunts.
|by Anonymous||reply 56||06/14/2013|
I love the image of OP walking into the branch next week and the teller calling across the lobby, "Hey, MARY! You still postin' them threads to Data Lounge? Thought I seen you on the Tony thread, snatch!"
I can see where it might have been uncomfortable for a closet queen to have DL show up on a credit card statement in days past. Considering our current demographics, though, he could just say he bought a membership for his wife and not even his pastor would blink an eye.
|by Anonymous||reply 59||06/14/2013|
One step closer to being featured prominently on a comedic People of Datalounge website.
|by Anonymous||reply 61||06/15/2013|
They should've left it as it was.
|by Anonymous||reply 62||06/15/2013|
The problem isn't the privacy of your card activity, OP, or you wouldn't have had a line-by-line reading of your charges with a bank employee.
The problem is that you were embarrassed because some idiot at your bank doesn't know how to be discreet.
|by Anonymous||reply 63||06/15/2013|
The bottom line is the fact that: 1) SOMEONE might care
Then SOMEONE shouldn't be paying $18 so they can start threads and chat during the so-called "Prime time" on a gay webforum.
|by Anonymous||reply 64||06/15/2013|
[quote]Throw in there the "guy at the bank" (strange how he has no title)...
The bank janitor, r40, wants bank employees to be given their proper titles now that his name tag has been upgraded to "Maintenance Engineer."
|by Anonymous||reply 66||06/15/2013|
My debit card statement says DataLounge, too, but everyone knows I'm gay so I don't care.
To the person who said that the bank boy wouldn't be interested because he knows how much money OP has - my debit card account never has more than $5,000. It is replenished on a regular basis from an account at a different financial institution.
