Should JANET JACKSON play Miss Hannigan in the new black "Annie" movie?

Can we start a petition?

by Anonymousreply 9206/27/2013

Can Mo'Nique sing? If so, then her.

by Anonymousreply 106/13/2013

In her new burqa?

No. She'd be expected to circumcise the girl orphans with a machete, considering her rich crazy husband's "culture."

by Anonymousreply 206/13/2013

Clearly the color purple and roots need a white remake as well.

by Anonymousreply 406/13/2013

Will she burn Annie with an iron in this version?

by Anonymousreply 506/13/2013

Sandra Bullock is in talks (I kid you not). It's ok for the villain to be white.

by Anonymousreply 606/13/2013

Sandra Bullock is close to signing for it, OP.

by Anonymousreply 706/13/2013

She'll probably get it, it's a boon for the producers.

by Anonymousreply 806/13/2013

I didn't realize that "orphan" indicated parent-less white child and that when a parent-less child is black, you add a "bl" to indicate this.

Oh wait... you were making a "funny."

You must also think Jim is the funnier Belushi brother.

by Anonymousreply 906/13/2013

So Jada evidently was not a lock for that role.

by Anonymousreply 1006/13/2013

Janet Jackson whispering the song "Little Girls" would be hilarious.

by Anonymousreply 1106/13/2013

Is Jaz Z going to "write the score" for this one too?

by Anonymousreply 1206/13/2013

Jay-Z already sampled "It's a Hard-Knock Life" 10 years ago. I remember my brother was surprised that I knew the chorus section ("It's a hard-knock life for us / It's a hard-knock life for us / Instead of treated we get licked / Instead of kisses we get kicked / It's a hard-knock life!") because I don't listen to rap. I told him, "It's from 'Annie'!" That surprised HIM.

by Anonymousreply 1306/13/2013

You're a RIOT, R14.
George Clooney should play Martin Luther King Jr. in the new all white film about the civil rights movement.

Yes, because Annie, a show where an orphan adopted by a billionaire pushes everyone to accept the New Deal by singing to FDR, is essential to Caucasian identity and identity politics as a whole.

by Anonymousreply 1806/13/2013

The role belongs to NeNe Leakes!!!!

by Anonymousreply 1906/13/2013

R16, get back to us when you learn the definition of "analogy."

by Anonymousreply 2006/13/2013

R4, R16. You totally miss the point. "Annie" is not an experience unique to white girls. Roots, The Color Purple, and especially MLK are experiences (and people) unique to African Americans. You two were probably screaming the same shit when they redid that uniquely white story "Steel Magnolias" (because no black woman has ever had a daughter who died). You racists are so tiresome.

by Anonymousreply 2106/13/2013

Can this Quevenenehe whatever the fuck her name is even sing??

The Q child is being pushed on us big time. I don't like it.

by Anonymousreply 2506/13/2013

A white Martin Luther King Jr isn't racist per se, it's just fucking stupid.

Whereas I can't imagine seeing a black Annie and thinking "this story no longer makes any sense!"

You're a fucking idiot.

by Anonymousreply 2606/13/2013

Jesus--how many damn "Annie" movies do we need? There was only one "Oklahoma" movie, ffs!

by Anonymousreply 2806/13/2013

[all posts by tedious troll removed.]

by Anonymousreply 2906/13/2013

You're back for what reason, R20? Here to show us that you not only don't know the definition of analogy, but showing everyone you're downright stupid?

by Anonymousreply 3006/13/2013
Annie is white. She's not black.

She's also a fictional character.

by Anonymousreply 3106/13/2013

What about "Trannie"!!??

by Anonymousreply 3306/13/2013

I didn't say the civil rights movement was unique to black people, R25-in fact, I included the word people (meaning MLK) in my response.

by Anonymousreply 3506/13/2013

They did. It was called Precious. There ain't no happy ending either, gurl.

by Anonymousreply 3606/13/2013

I don't understand the concept and I will not watch it.

by Anonymousreply 3706/13/2013

Like when the UK put a black woman as Gweniviere in the recent Arthurian legend. She was not even beautiful either. Thankfully her role diminished as time went on.

by Anonymousreply 3906/13/2013

Imagine being so unhinged that a black actress playing Annie upsets you because it's unrealistic, but the idea of a billionaire opening his home to an orphaned child seems realistic.

N-E: Hide Yo Kids, Hide Yo Dog

by Anonymousreply 4106/13/2013

Actually, all Janet has to do is channel...herself. I mean the lady who chased Michael Jackson's kids to their house, and grabbed Paris who had to call security. The Janet who drugged and kidnapped her own mother, holding her ransom, incommunicado, in effect, at a Spa, because Katherine "wasn't feeling well." Yeah, come to think of it, Janet would do very well.

I dunno..take a gander at who they are considering....

[bold] Sandra Bullock in Talks to Star in Sony's 'Annie' Remake [/bold]

by Anonymousreply 4406/13/2013

We should call all-black remakes of movies bladaptions from now on.

by Anonymousreply 4506/13/2013

Not one frame has been shot yet and it already promises to be a trainwreck!

by Anonymousreply 4606/13/2013

Mother of God, the attempts at humor. The burns!

by Anonymousreply 4706/13/2013

It's not like "Annie" has really been done correctly yet. The 1982 film was flat and dingy looking. The 1999 made for TV movie was okay and Andrea McArdle's cameo is wonderful but otherwise...

I know it may slow things down on film but can't they do "We'd Like to Thank You, Herbert Hoover" this time?

by Anonymousreply 4806/13/2013

R48 The 1999 version was more faithful to the original Broadway musical than the overblown 82 film, although Rob Marshall's direction was pretty repetitive (practically all of Kathy Bates' numbers ended with her storming through a door!). *Whispers* I won't even mention the black "Grace Farrell" character, played by the wonderful Audra McDonald, lest the racists here start screaming how she "should've played Warbucks' maid, not secretary! It was the Depression era, after all..." yada, yada.

by Anonymousreply 4906/13/2013

My god, the DL racists are going off the rails. Those old queens must have flipped their wigs (literally) when Pearl Bailey played Dolly Levi and the all-black version of "Guys and Dolls" premiered.

by Anonymousreply 5006/13/2013

I hope this flops like "The Wiz" did

by Anonymousreply 5106/13/2013

When I was a kid, I found a book of "Orphan Annie" cartoons from the 1930s, and was astonished at how right-wing and racist they were. Annie continually rants against child labor laws and expecting rich bastards like Warbucks to pay taxes. Non-whites are portrayed as inhuman stereotypes, and author hates everything about the New Deal.

I'm sure the author would have hated the pro-New-Deal musical, but the idea of an all-black-pro-new-deal musical must be making him spin in his grave like a machine lathe!

Therefore, I'm for it.

by Anonymousreply 5206/13/2013

How about Annie being played by a lovely Latina?

by Anonymousreply 5306/13/2013

Eddie Murphy should play Miss Hannigan.

by Anonymousreply 5406/14/2013

What millionaire in the thirties would adopt a black girl?

by Anonymousreply 5506/14/2013

I guess it will be Daddy Warcents?

by Anonymousreply 5606/14/2013

I hope Diana Ross plays Annie. She was so good as Dorothy.

by Anonymousreply 5706/14/2013

Is this new bladaptation going to be set in the 1930s? If so, how are they going to add hip hop numbers to the hijacked score and have Annie and Grace do American Idol style melismatic runs every time they open their mouths to sing?

by Anonymousreply 5806/14/2013

Barbra as Annie!

I look young!

by Anonymousreply 5906/14/2013
Can this Quevenenehe whatever the fuck her name is even sing??

Fuck you, bitch! Quvenzhane be black! She don't sing, she SANGS!!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 6006/14/2013

Quevenenehe? Buy a vowel, bitch.

by Anonymousreply 6106/14/2013

Go back to your trailer Jennifer. Your cousin be wantin' some sex witchu.

by Anonymousreply 6206/14/2013

As I understood it from an older article, the remake is set in current times, with Jay Z updating the music.

by Anonymousreply 6306/14/2013

She's too fat and old, OP.

by Anonymousreply 6406/14/2013

It would scare the chirren.

by Anonymousreply 6506/14/2013

If this is going to be modern times, what is little blorphan Annie's backstory?

by Anonymousreply 6606/14/2013

I think Whitney should play Miss Hannigan. She's been real quiet lately. What's she been up to?
I think Whitney should play Miss Hannigan. She's been real quiet lately. What's she been up to?

I hear she's just lying around on her back all day. I have that on good authority.

by Anonymousreply 6906/14/2013

I still don't think it's going to happen.

But if it does, the very heterosexual Tyler Perry should play Hannigan. LERD!

by Anonymousreply 7006/14/2013

Does Annie have a Red weave and a pet pitbull?

by Anonymousreply 7106/14/2013

Tyler Perry or Oprah could be Warbucks!

Miss Blannigan needs to be a crack whore not a drunk.

I see less a black version than a ghetto version. Move the orphanage from NYC to Watts.

by Anonymousreply 7206/14/2013

R72. Two words. New Orleans

by Anonymousreply 7406/14/2013

This thread makes no sense.

There be sun.

by Anonymousreply 7606/14/2013

R77 Little Blorphan Anneeneequisha will come complete with hooker heels, fishnet stockings, a riding crop and fresh crack pipes wrapped in cellophane, for those discerning gentleman callers.

by Anonymousreply 7806/14/2013

I remember our thread about the black community being up in arms over a white woman, and not a black woman playing Cleopatra, because everyone knows that Miss Cleo was a black girl.

by Anonymousreply 8006/14/2013

Bippity boppity bump

by Anonymousreply 8106/14/2013

She doesn't really sing or act very well and is about as funny as dry wall...soo no.

by Anonymousreply 8206/14/2013

Janet Jackson and Melanie Griffith could be signed to do a whisper smack-down.

by Anonymousreply 8306/15/2013

Alfre Woodard for Miss Hannigan!

by Anonymousreply 8406/15/2013

Kim Field's Mama...

by Anonymousreply 8506/15/2013

Couple of white trash losers in this thread who won't let it go, will they.
