Robin Thicke's funky "Blurred Lines" his first UK and US Hot 100 #1
|by Anonymous||reply 88||08/17/2013|
That song is a fucking mess. Sounds too much like the Marvin Gaye song it's stolen from. It just sounds like a shitty version of Got to Give it Up.
|by Anonymous||reply 1||06/12/2013|
Good for him.
|by Anonymous||reply 2||06/12/2013|
For some reason I enjoyed the more misogynist version with titties bouncing all over the place.
He has a few vocal tricks that are over-played in this song. Perhaps, he'll expand. Pink did the same thing when she first started.
|by Anonymous||reply 3||06/12/2013|
Peaking late. Good for him.
|by Anonymous||reply 4||06/12/2013|
It's #1 in several countries. It's also gone platinum here in the states. This is clearly his biggest hit.
|by Anonymous||reply 5||06/12/2013|
R1 Well, what's new? White guys ripping off blacks and them getting the success. It never changes.
|by Anonymous||reply 6||06/12/2013|
Bitch be old. Isn't he 40?
|by Anonymous||reply 7||06/12/2013|
I used to LOVE his daddy. What a furry hottie!
|by Anonymous||reply 8||06/12/2013|
That wasn't Robert Goulet?
|by Anonymous||reply 9||06/12/2013|
There's no "song" there! Wtf It sounds like random melodies thrown in together. I'm not an oldie either. I just don't hear a cohesive song.
|by Anonymous||reply 10||06/12/2013|
|by Anonymous||reply 11||06/12/2013|
Good for him after Timberlake stole his sound in his comeback single.
|by Anonymous||reply 12||06/12/2013|
It seems good enough for many people out there. I haven't heard it yet, but I did hear one of his songs a few years ago and didn't hate it. He sounds okay, not quite what I like, but not bad. Good for him. His wife (still married???) is scrumptious. Do/did they have chirruns, anyone know or care to look it up (no, I don't).
|by Anonymous||reply 13||06/12/2013|
|by Anonymous||reply 14||06/12/2013|
Yes, R13, they have a son named Julian.
|by Anonymous||reply 15||06/12/2013|
R1 is right. When it came on the radio I thought it actually was a fucked up version of Give It Up.
I saw Robin Thicke do this song on a crappy tv show and, somehow, I liked it. It's built on Marvin so maybe that's not so weird. Just curious, does Thicke always have meth sweats? He looked like Whitney up there.
|by Anonymous||reply 16||06/12/2013|
Right, not what I expected... Thanks, R14.
|by Anonymous||reply 17||06/12/2013|
I like him a lot more than Timberlake. I don't mind the song-
|by Anonymous||reply 18||06/12/2013|
Is this the video where almost 4 mins in there's a sign that says "Robin Thicke has a Big Dick"?
|by Anonymous||reply 19||06/12/2013|
Yes, R19, in the uncensored version. The uncensored version also has that scene where his back is to the camera and he's swiveling his hips from side to side.
|by Anonymous||reply 20||06/12/2013|
Is she still married to the manly-looking black wife?
|by Anonymous||reply 21||06/12/2013|
R21 Please! She is gorgeous and not manly-looking at all. You're just angry he's with a good-looking black woman instead of a plain-looking white girl. Sorry to inform you, but not everyone is attracted to white people.
|by Anonymous||reply 22||06/12/2013|
Paula Patton is neither black nor manly looking.
|by Anonymous||reply 23||06/12/2013|
Interesting, Robin Thicke has a crush on Cheryl Cole (white girl) in the UK. Mmmhmm.
[quote]Robin, who’s currently at number one with Pharrell Williams’ tune Blurred Lines, told listeners about his major crush, admitting: "You know who’s pretty hot who I didn’t know much about until recently – Cheryl."
[quote]Not done with talking up the 29-year-old, Robin went on to add: "She’s a sexy thing."
|by Anonymous||reply 24||06/12/2013|
The bitches on MTO (black gossip site) think she's a tranny & call her manly looking. FWIW.
|by Anonymous||reply 25||06/12/2013|
She looks like a man in a dress here.
|by Anonymous||reply 26||06/12/2013|
theybf.com - black gossip site, the commenters call her and Zoe Saldana manly looking. I agree with the assessment about ZS as well, she's masculine.
|by Anonymous||reply 27||06/12/2013|
Paula is very pretty, but does have some manly features at certain angles. I think it's the jawline.
|by Anonymous||reply 28||06/12/2013|
Pretty, pretty, R26.
|by Anonymous||reply 29||06/12/2013|
[quote]Interesting, Robin Thicke has a crush on Cheryl Cole (white girl) in the UK. Mmmhmm.
So what? If you want to know another interesting fact, Cheryl Cole mostly dates black men (her first husband was black and her current boyfriend is black).
[quote]The bitches on MTO (black gossip site) think she's a tranny & call her manly looking. FWIW.
That's because unfortunately women are jealous cunts when it comes to mixed women: the black ones are jealous because they're light skinned and can actually grow their own hair, and the white women can't stand that mixed women have natural tans and can't stand when a white guy would rather have a mixed woman than a plain white girl.
Sad all the way around.
|by Anonymous||reply 30||06/12/2013|
[quote]Paula Patton is neither black nor manly looking.
She is half black. And she is sexy as all get-out. They both sizzled in Robin's "Love After War" video (the song came out last year and was so good but didn't get the attention it deserved)...
|by Anonymous||reply 31||06/12/2013|
So how do we find out if what the sign says (that Thicke has a Big Dick) is true?
|by Anonymous||reply 32||06/12/2013|
They're both hot. I'd love to be tag teamed by Alan and Robin. LOL
|by Anonymous||reply 33||06/13/2013|
I prefer his mom's voice:
|by Anonymous||reply 34||06/13/2013|
OMG - I forgot that Gloria Loring was his mom. LOL! I couldn't stand her voice or her acting.
|by Anonymous||reply 35||06/13/2013|
I don't know but after watching the video and their appearance on Graham Norton the other day it appears that Pharell Williams is the gayest little thing ever.
|by Anonymous||reply 36||06/13/2013|
I like the song, but he copies Justin Timberlake too much, and it does sound like "Got to give it up". The video is very filthy with topless models walking about.
I don't know what Robin was thinking, but I still like him.
|by Anonymous||reply 37||06/13/2013|
Oh, r37, please....Robin has been doing this schtick for years before Justin decided to rip him off.
|by Anonymous||reply 38||06/13/2013|
Paula and Robin have been together since the age of 14. Isn't that crazy?! Their son is gorgeous!
|by Anonymous||reply 39||06/13/2013|
I find it odd that their son has white yellow hair. Usually dark genes predominate, and Robin isn't blonde either.
|by Anonymous||reply 40||06/13/2013|
r29 she's had tons of work done, did she get her eyes done too?
|by Anonymous||reply 41||06/13/2013|
Thicke's father is a kinky bastard and on his third marriage. In April, his current mother-in-law was arrested for having her husband killed in Bolivia.
|by Anonymous||reply 42||06/13/2013|
Julian kind of looks like his grandma Gloria Loring. Is she a natural blonde?
|by Anonymous||reply 43||06/13/2013|
I think his wife is stunning. I love interracial couples...they make me happy.
|by Anonymous||reply 44||06/13/2013|
Haha! I've always thought that, R36. He's looking old now, too.
|by Anonymous||reply 45||06/13/2013|
You all do know that Pharell is 40(!) right?
|by Anonymous||reply 46||06/13/2013|
Sometimes it's such a drag being above the lowbrow mainstream.
|by Anonymous||reply 47||06/13/2013|
Wish Timberlake would go away and that Robin could get his material.
|by Anonymous||reply 48||06/13/2013|
I hate when guys, especially white guys sing falsetto. So uncool.
|by Anonymous||reply 49||06/13/2013|
R37, Robin Thicke was singing like he does before Justin Timberlake came on the scene as a single musical artist.
Robin Thicke is NOT copying Justin Timberlake.
|by Anonymous||reply 50||06/13/2013|
It's basically Marvin Gaye's Got To Give It Up done terribly wrong.Add in Pharrell and the supposed street cred inherent even makes it worse.
|by Anonymous||reply 51||06/13/2013|
I'm probably the only person on the planet that hates Got To Give It Up by Marvin Gaye but I do. To me, it was one of his worst songs. THIS song sucks even harder.
|by Anonymous||reply 52||06/13/2013|
[quote]he copies Justin Timberlake too much
Bitch, please. It's the other way around. Justin completely stole his current suave, suit-n-tie-wearing, slick-haired gentleman image right from under Robin.
|by Anonymous||reply 53||06/13/2013|
Prince called...he wants his 20yo B-side back.
|by Anonymous||reply 54||06/13/2013|
Meh. I think I'll wait for the Willam Belli version. The good news is that Pharell Williams can "cross over" for that one too.
|by Anonymous||reply 55||06/14/2013|
I thought that Alan Thicke dated a lot of black women, but it seems that he has only married white women? I know that he and Bill Mahers used to hang out a lot, and shared black women....probably 10-15 years ago.
|by Anonymous||reply 56||06/14/2013|
Didn't Bill Maher go back to white women for a while? Well, no longer, he's got a gorgeous swirly gf now.
|by Anonymous||reply 57||06/14/2013|
the brunette in the unrated vid is STUNNING, I like the song and yes Justin TOTALLY ripped off Robin Thicke.
I find Robin hot - so who know if he does have a big dick?
|by Anonymous||reply 58||06/14/2013|
[quote] I find Robin hot - so who know if he does have a big dick?
Supposedly this video is making fun of all the hip-hop video cliches - including the sign in balloons - but I'd rather think it's true. Robin's hot!
|by Anonymous||reply 59||06/15/2013|
This was so obviously going to soar to #1 in the US especially. Would never have noticed the "Got to Give it Up" sample.. and I know that song quite well, Marvin and Aaliyah's version. I never really liked it, but love this.
I can see Robin is sexy from the video but he don't do it for me. Oddly I like his clone father though, who seems to have some sugar in his tank.
Pharrell does indeed flame off the charts in this vid and knowingly so.. it seems that the "Blurred Lines" also meant blurred sexuality, the way he was stepping back and forth with TI - rumours he was raped in prison a la 2Pac. Pharrell is supposedly engaged or something and a ladies man but if he is a bit gay I can only imagine how many people in the industry who had him. He was rumoured to have broken up Britney and Justin.
I most love the contrast between Thicke's sub-Prince falsetto which so works here and that deep voice which I assumed was another black featured guest. Funny he's breaking through at such a late stage, George Michael had already released his "Older" album by this age.
|by Anonymous||reply 60||06/16/2013|
[quote]Oddly I like his clone father though, who seems to have some sugar in his tank.
I'll say! It's clear Alan wanted to fuck gay bodybuilder Bob Paris in this old clip. He's touching him and getting all hot 'n bothered.
|by Anonymous||reply 61||06/16/2013|
Until now, Robin's "Lost Without You" was his biggest hit, but now he's gone BIG. Way to go, Robin!
|by Anonymous||reply 62||06/16/2013|
|by Anonymous||reply 63||06/21/2013|
You can tell this guy is a nobody from the lack of haters in his thread.
|by Anonymous||reply 64||06/21/2013|
There are really fun covers and parodies of this song. I love it. Sorry that I'm law to the party
|by Anonymous||reply 65||08/14/2013|
|by Anonymous||reply 66||08/14/2013|
Tan Lines! - with muscle hunks
|by Anonymous||reply 67||08/14/2013|
|by Anonymous||reply 68||08/15/2013|
Seems that every year there's a dumb, can't-get-it-out-of-my-head summer song. "Macarena" and "Call Me Maybe" come to mind, but I'm sure there are more. Here's a twink version. They're all fat. I know.
|by Anonymous||reply 69||08/15/2013|
They're terrible lip-syncers
|by Anonymous||reply 70||08/16/2013|
Ruh roh! Robin thicke is Suing the Marvin Gaye estate over this song!
|by Anonymous||reply 71||08/17/2013|
|by Anonymous||reply 72||08/17/2013|
r71, shit just got very real.
I read about this, but I still don't understand what Thicke & co. think they'll accomplish by a preemptive strike.
The Gaye family said they were considering legal action, but never filed. There is another song involved too (Funkadelic, I think).
BTW, Am I the only one sick of Pharrell Williams' over rated ass and camera mugging?
|by Anonymous||reply 73||08/17/2013|
I preferred this when Marvin Gaye did it and it was called Got To Give It Up.
Of course, Marvin's version is so superior to this you wonder why people have paid any attention to Blurred Lines at all. It shows how little people know about music and that little titties sell.
|by Anonymous||reply 74||08/17/2013|
|by Anonymous||reply 75||08/17/2013|
[quote]"Macarena" and "Call Me Maybe" come to mind, but I'm sure there are more.
Oh I hate Macarena (novelty song, albeit with cultural cache) but Call Me Maybe is genius pop a la Baby One More Time.
Blurred Lines is a bit different in that it's very r&b, especially for a white artist.
I shall have a look at other summer songs, they aren't springing to mind. I think damn Katy Perry's Cali Girls was one.
|by Anonymous||reply 76||08/17/2013|
An uninspired, overly repetitious Marvin Gaye ripoff. Yawn.
Remember when plagiarised songs could still be catchy and somewhat original on their own merits ("My Sweet Lord" comes to mind)?
|by Anonymous||reply 77||08/17/2013|
Marvin Gaye-still the best. Robin Thicke could never do this:
|by Anonymous||reply 78||08/17/2013|
i don't get how his son looks so fucking white.
|by Anonymous||reply 79||08/17/2013|
Where did your MA in Musical Theory come from R74? The Helen Keller School?
Robin Thicke wouldn't have preemptively sued if he knew there was any merit to the copyright infringement claim. He would have laid low and begged for mercy once he lost.
Funny how it's been at number 1 for 2 months and only now after the lawsuit are all these apparently tone-deaf commenters online coming out of the woodwork to claim it's sampled. If it's so obvious, why did none of the music experts and journalists who have discussed this song for months notice? You think you know better than they do?
|by Anonymous||reply 80||08/17/2013|
Marvin is the best male singer of all time, but I never liked Got to Give It Up.
Anyway, so is Cunty Perry assured of knocking off "Blurred Lines" from the top? Her sales are formidable.. but Robin's airplay points are unprecedented and he's still selling by the bucketload.
|by Anonymous||reply 81||08/17/2013|
r80, this was talked about in the black press from the beginning of the song's run. Many commenters were talking about it.
What is and is not copyright infringement is not always clear.
If anyone in their camp was concerned, they would not have "laid low", they would have negotiated a fee. This is done all the time, especially in hip-hop. A$AP Rocky's full length was delayed because of it.
I suspect the difference here might be that Williams hired musicians to play it and over-produced it in order to avoid payment.
|by Anonymous||reply 82||08/17/2013|
I liked that 'Magic' song.
|by Anonymous||reply 83||08/17/2013|
Sing it louder!
|by Anonymous||reply 84||08/17/2013|
R80, I'd call you a cunt but you're more of a gash.
|by Anonymous||reply 85||08/17/2013|
How can Thicke and the people who worked on "Blurred Lines" claim that the beat is NOT a fucking ripoff of "Got To Give It Up"? Yes, they added a couple of extra things to it, but the backing track is the SAME. Fuck that poser Thicke. It annoys me that so many people don't know that song by Gaye.
|by Anonymous||reply 86||08/17/2013|
r86, I just listened to them back to back and it sounds like Williams took the bass line and punched out the higher intervals. The drums are similar, too, but Gaye has more bottom.
The Gaye song has a more sophisticated bass line.
The vocal range is ridiculously similar, as well as the bass.
I think you'd have to hear the all the studio tape on it to judge how it developed.
It is very, very close.
|by Anonymous||reply 87||08/17/2013|
Other than the bass line, the songs sound nothing alike to me.
|by Anonymous||reply 88||08/17/2013|
