Why wasn't there a gay romance in The Hunger Games

Imagine if they had a gay pairing like Finnick Odair and Peeta Meelark. That would increase sales dramatically. And the whole love triangle thing wouldn't have to be resolved by having Gale abandon poor Katniss. And who do you think would be the best gay couple in the series?

Discuss.

Why indeed.

Also, why isn't there a gay romance in THE DEPARTED? Think how much better it would have been had Jack Nicholson started making out with Martin Sheen. That would also have increased sales dramatically.

Nobody knows - put it in your fan fiction.

"Imagine if they had a gay pairing like Finnick Odair and Peeta Meelark. That would increase sales dramatically. "

Seriously deluded. The primary worldwide audience for this series was teenage girls (as was Twilight).

Teenage girls do not want to read about the homo sex. They want to swoon over impossible love and being the object of affection for multiple hot guys.

OP are you a 12 year old girl? Sheesh. WTF do you care about this POS movie?

by Anonymousreply 605/22/2013

Yeah, I too wonder why there isn't there a gay storyline in The Hunger Games.

"Teenage girls do not want to read about the homo sex. "

You're wrong, you guys have no idea how many fangirls like "slash"!

Well it was implied Finnick was prostituted to both men and women.

Also, what r8 said. Most young women, particularly of the fan girl type, go nuts for two men together. It's the same reason straight guys like watching two girls: you get double the attractiveness, and there's no competition with someone of the same gender as you.

Peeta and Finnick would have been a cute couple (they were my favorite characters), but I wouldn't like seeing Katniss was Gale. Gale was a fucking waste of space, and his "love triangle" with Katniss and Peeta was the weakest thing about the series.

R9 is correct, the fangirls love boy-boy romances!

However, their parents and teachers do not, which is probably why the publishing industry isn't exploiting their preferences.
