Those wacky New Yorkers

What will they think of next?

by Anonymousreply 1405/22/2013

These are not New Yorkers. They're "New Yorkers," imported from some berg where they were overpraised as "artsy" by yokels.

This also applies to most of the Times staff.

Honey--The "New Yorkers" of cultural significance in history almost all came from somewhere else.

Thank you for weighing, Peoria.

R2 True. They came from Brooklyn, Bronx and Queens.

I thought these hipster douchebags were all safely ghettoized in Brooklyn.

What makes New York unique is not that the people born here are particularly talented (though some are). It's that talented people from all over the world come here.

Andy Warhol--Pittsburgh

Jackson Pollock--Wyoming

Bob Dylan--Minnesota

Dorothy Parker--New Jersey

Anna Wintour--London

Willem de Koonig--Rotterdam

Louis Armstrong-- New Orleans

Jack Kerouac--Lowell, Massachusetts

R.H. Macy--Nantucket

Babe Ruth--Baltimore

J.P. Morgan--Hartford, Ct.

Philip Johnson--Cleveland

Really R2?

by Anonymousreply 805/22/2013

R7 Parker was born in her family's summer home in West End Long Branch. She was not raised in NJ, she was raised in NYC.

by Anonymousreply 905/22/2013

I'm sure the transplanted New Yorkers of her day never let her forget that she was from New Jersey.

by Anonymousreply 1005/22/2013

R10 To which she would have replied she wasnt from NJ. Had her mother gone into labor a week later she would have been born in NYC.

by Anonymousreply 1105/22/2013

Oh R8, the post said NY-ers of cultural significance. Nice try though.
