Dan Stevens now
We have been here before but this is another picture of Dan Stevens now - what is he doing to himself? He is getting slimmer every time I see him ... he is now totally different from how he looked 5 years ago in The Line of Beauty, when that slight chubbiness suited him, and he proved he was ideal for costume drama stuff like that remake of Sense & Sensibility and Downton Abbey - he must be working hard at creating a whole new image now, but is it going to work? There are plenty other actors who look like this - should Dan have stuck to his own groove in mainly costume drama?
He must work hard with a trainer and starve himself to look like this - his face has changed apart from the eyes. We were dissing Keanu for letting himself go and bulking up and looking slobby (as actors like Gerard Butler and Russell Crowe do between movies where they have to look good). It all seems like too much hard work to me, but then how does Tom Cruise continue looking the same decade after decade ....

Oh dear, he looks ill. I prefer the slightly pudgier Dan.
|by Anonymous||reply 1||05/21/2013|
I may look ill but at least I have a chin now.
|by Anonymous||reply 2||05/21/2013|
Someone obviously told him he's competing with the naturally lean Damian Lewis.
|by Anonymous||reply 3||05/21/2013|
Well, he's obviously dealing with some major issues that have manifested themselves into this need to completely overhaul his appearance.
|by Anonymous||reply 4||05/21/2013|
This photo was published in March, two months before OP's image.
In both images Stevens does look much different than in past film/TV roles. Maybe he's doing some Christian Bale starve-for-my-art thing but the gaunt effect in OP's link owes at least something to light and shadow and a technically bad and unflattering photo.
|by Anonymous||reply 5||05/21/2013|
Now that Dan has a jaw line (he always had a chin) he needs to return to bleaching his hair blonde.
|by Anonymous||reply 6||05/21/2013|
The poor dude took so much flak for being fat during his Downton stay that he probably decided to shed as much weight as he could. I think he looks much better here, and more likely to be cast in other ventures besides period pieces.
|by Anonymous||reply 7||05/21/2013|
As a pimp with a coke habit, say.
|by Anonymous||reply 8||05/21/2013|
Dan Stevens to appear on Graham Norton tonight - this should be interesting.
|by Anonymous||reply 9||06/07/2013|
Maybe he's getting ready to come out and knows that no fatties are allowed in the gay dating circuit.
|by Anonymous||reply 10||06/07/2013|
I think he looks better this way. Needs more hair, though.
|by Anonymous||reply 11||06/07/2013|
Perhaps he has become obsessed with Jesse Pinkman
|by Anonymous||reply 12||06/07/2013|
Ewww. He's too old to pull off hipster facial hair and hairstyles.
But at least he's not fat.
|by Anonymous||reply 13||06/07/2013|
Yo, no more Matthew Crowley, BITCH!
|by Anonymous||reply 14||06/07/2013|
The actor playing Thomas the footman has put on every pound that Dan Stevens has lost.
|by Anonymous||reply 15||06/07/2013|
Maybe he wants to do drag roles and get into some hot gowns and dresses?
|by Anonymous||reply 16||06/07/2013|
He looked perfect in "The Line of Beauty." He was overweight in "Downton Abbey" but he still was attractive--now he's just not attractive. He looks prematurely aged and anorexic.
|by Anonymous||reply 17||06/07/2013|
I don't have pix, but R15 is correct.
I didn't find her all that to begin with, but she's a plus-sized gal now.
|by Anonymous||reply 19||06/07/2013|
Is he a natural blond or brunette?
|by Anonymous||reply 20||06/07/2013|
Just seen him on the Norton show, where he just was not interesting at all. The new look is starting compared to how he used to be in The Line of Beauty and those costume dramas. I think he fancies himself as an intellectual, what with reading all those books, and too good for just a popular serial that other actors would kill to be in.
His latest projects dont seem to be anything special but he will always be known as the actor who changed the whole storyline of Downton Abbey by refusing to continue in his lead role.
I still think it takes more than a diet or a trainer or a hair color change to look so different.
|by Anonymous||reply 22||06/07/2013|
I understand his desire not to be typecast, but there's nothing extraordinary about him and he's not getting any younger. He should've stuck with DA.
|by Anonymous||reply 23||06/07/2013|
Would not have recognized him as Matthew from that photo.
One thing to remember about carrying extra weight as Matthew, that was totally in keeping with the times and the character.
Weight was an indication of wealth -- you had the money to buy food.
One hundred years ago, most people were underweight, even by DL's manorexic standards. They didn't have the money to buy spend lavishly on food that would add to their weight.
|by Anonymous||reply 24||06/07/2013|
He may be on the 5:2 diet? That's the diet Benedict Cumberbatch is on to slim down for Sherlock.
|by Anonymous||reply 25||06/07/2013|
Last time I saw something that looked like that, it was hanging in a doctors office.
He was hot in Line of Beauty.
|by Anonymous||reply 26||06/07/2013|
Apparently Thomas the Footman Rob Collier-Something has been spending time in Hollywood so don't be surprised if he shows up in SEason 4 fitter and toned.
|by Anonymous||reply 27||06/07/2013|
[quote] Just seen him on the Norton show
I really hope it's only one idiot who keeps putting up illiterate posts like this. I'd hate to think there are lots and lots of ungrammatical morons on this board.
|by Anonymous||reply 28||06/07/2013|
He was attractive in Downton Abbey.
Now he looks like a weasel.
|by Anonymous||reply 29||06/07/2013|
He's a lollipop head.
It's startling because I'm used to seeing anorexic actresses who are expected to look like that. It's an unusual look for a man.
|by Anonymous||reply 31||06/07/2013|
I think he looks like the kid who played Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter movies. Tom Felton, I think is his name. Tom is prematurely balding, but if you look at their faces, I see a resemblance.
|by Anonymous||reply 32||06/07/2013|
Will his next role be as an alien in a space flick?

You people are so mean to Dan Stevens. The whole way through Downton Abbey everyone makes fun of his jawline. Then he gets one and he still can't get a break! Mean, I tell you.
|by Anonymous||reply 36||06/07/2013|
Downtown will stay in the family! The baby is the new heir! Mrs. Crawley will be out on her fanny!!!
|by Anonymous||reply 37||06/07/2013|
[quote]One hundred years ago, most people were underweight, even by DL's manorexic standards.
That is 100% wrong.
In 1913, the fuller, curvier, and more statuesque look of the Gibson Girl was the standard of female beauty.
You obviously know absolutely nothing about history.

Rob James-Collier, aka Thomas the Footman, carrying sympathy weight:

Those photos are old! Rob-James has reduced!!!Look!!!
|by Anonymous||reply 42||06/07/2013|
Uh, is that interviewer with dear skinny Rob male or female?
|by Anonymous||reply 43||06/07/2013|
R42 = Rob's LA agent, at happy hour at the Abbey
|by Anonymous||reply 44||06/07/2013|
I wish r44. He's a cutey and quite charming in the interview.
|by Anonymous||reply 46||06/07/2013|
Dan's "Line of Beauty" weight was perfect for him - why couldn't he have stopped when he hit that number again, instead of continuing on to gauntness?
|by Anonymous||reply 47||06/07/2013|
Dan reveals he's lost 30 pounds!
|by Anonymous||reply 48||06/10/2013|
Too skinny. His face looks gaunt and haggard. Should have stopped at 10-15 lbs.
Oh, and blond is definitely better.
|by Anonymous||reply 50||06/10/2013|
The weight loss makes him look like a completely different person.
Even though he looks gay now, I prefer the way he looked before.
Re R48's link: something tells me Allen Leech is not going to age well.
|by Anonymous||reply 51||06/10/2013|
Allen Leech looks like he took Dan's 30 pounds and added a few of his own.
|by Anonymous||reply 52||06/10/2013|
Rob looks good no matter what. He has black hair and blue eyes. Dan looks like shit. Poor thing. All that weight lost and still manages to look bigger than Dominic Cooper.
|by Anonymous||reply 53||06/10/2013|
So was he a bleached blond?
|by Anonymous||reply 54||06/10/2013|
I think Dan is a natural blond- he looks more "authentic" as a blond than with the dark brown hair.
|by Anonymous||reply 55||06/11/2013|
[quote]In 1913, the fuller, curvier, and more statuesque look of the Gibson Girl was the standard of female beauty.
R38, your logic skills are impaired.
That the majority of women at the time did not attain the standard of female beauty is not a contradiction in the slightest.
You are 100% dumbass.
|by Anonymous||reply 56||06/11/2013|
Dan Stevens looks horrible thin and with dark brown hair. he should've at least stayed bleached blond! Allen Leech is sex on a stick...i'd shag that bloke in a trainspotting instant!
|by Anonymous||reply 57||06/13/2013|
"I think he looks much better here, and more likely to be cast in other ventures besides period pieces."
You are insane and probably have an eating disorder yourself.
|by Anonymous||reply 58||06/13/2013|
He looks way too thin.
The Guardian says he lost 30 pounds for a role.
End of story.
|by Anonymous||reply 59||06/13/2013|
He looks better with a few more pounds. Now he just looks like any other random actor.
Now, Alan Leach...he could stand to lose a few.
|by Anonymous||reply 60||06/13/2013|
Straight men don't look like this, no?
|by Anonymous||reply 61||06/13/2013|
Dan looks like a real fame whore on the red carpet in that awful shiny suit. He must be starving himself to look so thin and it does not suit him. Much preferred him in Downton and Sense & Sensability and Line of Beauty.
He is certainly selling this new movie, he has been on several tv sbows apart from Norton's, and interviews in all the leading papers. But it still is of no interest to me.
Allen Leech seems to have piled on the pounds though, isnt he meant to be gay? and Stephen Fry looks terrible.
Dan's wife is several years older than him too ...
|by Anonymous||reply 62||06/13/2013|
Love that first photo of him at the premiere with his phone in his hand - is he expecting a call from his agent ?
|by Anonymous||reply 63||06/13/2013|
Who is this person? Some background, please.
|by Anonymous||reply 64||06/13/2013|
