Why isn't there "Cat Man"?

We have Batman, Superman...etc...it just strikes me as being odd that there is no "Cat Man". Cats are very well loved and are very elegant.

by Anonymousreply 7305/31/2013

There is but he's a villain.

by Anonymousreply 105/19/2013

Perfect name for the main antagonist:The Rat.

by Anonymousreply 205/19/2013

If he were a superhero, what would Catman do?

by Anonymousreply 305/19/2013

Sleep a lot and be impeccably groomed.

by Anonymousreply 405/19/2013

Actually it would be bewildering and subversive because cats are always kinda associated with the feminine.

by Anonymousreply 505/19/2013

Because cats are for girls. Not a big market for superheroes.

by Anonymousreply 605/19/2013

The Black Panther over at Marvel has this shit on lock

by Anonymousreply 705/19/2013

When I was a little kid I believed that all cats were girls and all dogs were boys.

by Anonymousreply 805/19/2013

So many "Cat Mans"

by Anonymousreply 905/19/2013

Cats are elegant OP, but I don't think that's the criteria most desired in a superhero when a nasty super villain has you dangling upside down over a vat of acid.

by Anonymousreply 1005/19/2013

DC's Cat Man even has an action figure. Did you google at all before asking this, OP?

by Anonymousreply 1105/19/2013

Justice League had a fit-fat Catman! Love the little yellow cat on his tunic.

by Anonymousreply 1205/19/2013

Catman and Dogboy?

by Anonymousreply 1305/20/2013

Beware the power of... Almiqui Man!!

by Anonymousreply 1405/20/2013

Cats are not considered masculine. Most boys, men, and parents would not embrace a male superhero that is catlike. They want a superhero to be very masculine. Elegance is not a trait people want in a male superhero.

by Anonymousreply 1505/20/2013

Meow meow meow meow meow meow meow meow meow meow meow meow Catman!

Meow meow meow meow meow meow meow meow meow meow meow meow Catman!

Catman! Catman! Catman.

by Anonymousreply 1605/20/2013

Catman Scruthers?

by Anonymousreply 1705/20/2013

Dogs are boys and cats are girls, that's why.

by Anonymousreply 1805/20/2013

Wildcat was certainly an earliest cat-men, and a fun character at times.

But I agree with R7, T'Challa is the better character.

by Anonymousreply 1905/20/2013

"Cat woman??? The guy at the costume store told me it was Catman!"

by Anonymousreply 2005/20/2013

I think Catman is a great idea. He's a slinky super-athlete who can leap up to five times his height and has a way of always managing to land on his feet. He can see in the dark and has extra-sensitive whiskers that help him stalk his prey. He has a serrated penis and mounts his lovers from behind while holding them by the scruff of the neck with his mouth, which makes them scream.

by Anonymousreply 2105/20/2013

There's also no Dog Man. And, not surprisingly, there's no Dog Woman.

Cats clearly resonates more with a feminine comic book character.

by Anonymousreply 2205/20/2013

The obvious reason would be that men generally do not like cats.

by Anonymousreply 2305/20/2013

Yeah, men tend to express disdain and ridicule toward cats. Cats are not considered manly.

by Anonymousreply 2405/20/2013

I'm unclear. Are cats considered manly?

by Anonymousreply 2505/20/2013

No, R25. Not manly. Not at all. Maybe womanly. Or even feline.

Cathouses, on the other hand, THOSE are manly.

by Anonymousreply 2605/20/2013

Cat-Man is sort of an antihero in DC Comics. he used to be a Batman villain (a self-admitted copycat of Catwoman when she had reformed for several years), and then he became a member of the Suicide Squad (which is sort of a group of former villains and antiheroes pressed into government service). He's gay, and has trouble with managing his weight and tends to get depressed (like so many gay men), but now is once again fit and hot (also like so many gay men).

by Anonymousreply 2705/20/2013

He was a member of the Secret Six, written by Gail Simone. Loved him in that book. He was constantly wondering if he had it in him to be a hero, but he could never bring himself to be the good guy.

He had this cute, flirty thing with the Huntress for a while, but Gail said she would have revealed he was Bi if the series was not cancelled.

by Anonymousreply 2805/20/2013

He can lick his own ass.

by Anonymousreply 2905/20/2013

The reason there's no Cat-Man? Too much possibility of pussy jokes.

by Anonymousreply 3005/20/2013

No, no, no! Catman's sidekick wasn't called Dog Boy. He was called Boi Pussy.

by Anonymousreply 3105/20/2013

r21, I take it that Catman would be gay?

by Anonymousreply 3205/21/2013

Who would Catman's villains be?

by Anonymousreply 3305/21/2013

The Red Dot

Hoover Man

by Anonymousreply 3405/21/2013

I am 100% sure Catman would be gay, fabulous, elegant, and flexible.

by Anonymousreply 3505/21/2013

R33, Lazerdot, Statique, and the Paw Grabber.

by Anonymousreply 3605/21/2013

Cat Man and his sidekick, Pussy Boy!

by Anonymousreply 3705/21/2013

[quote]Because cats are for girls.

That's why all boys under the age of 30 want cats over dogs. Are you aware of Anonymous, hon?

by Anonymousreply 3805/21/2013

[quote]Yeah, men tend to express disdain and ridicule toward cats. Cats are not considered manly.

Yes, they are. Anonymous changed everything. Men (teens through 30s) want cats over dogs now. They're looked at as cool. If you mess with a cat, Anonymous will ruin your life. It's Rule 0.

by Anonymousreply 3905/21/2013

My name would be CatAPult, and I would throw cats at people.

by Anonymousreply 4005/21/2013

The problem is, Catwoman is too iconic.

by Anonymousreply 4105/21/2013

Catman is such a crap name for a villain or superhero.

by Anonymousreply 4205/21/2013

I would LOVE IT if there was a character named Dogwoman, and she was ugly.

by Anonymousreply 4305/21/2013

What dude would identify with a feline male superhero? Not gonna happen.

by Anonymousreply 4405/21/2013

Catman is a biter.

by Anonymousreply 4505/21/2013

RatMan

by Anonymousreply 4605/21/2013

[quote]Who would Catman's villains be?

Man with Water Pistol

by Anonymousreply 4705/21/2013

Catman's kryptonite would be balls of string. Haha

by Anonymousreply 4805/21/2013

R44 - Catman not only has a compelling backstory, but has been shown kicking ass for years - even knocked Batman down once. In the age of Wkipedia, how does someone make statements like that.

by Anonymousreply 4905/21/2013

There was a Catman but the problem was when facing an opponent he was always called a pussy.

by Anonymousreply 5005/21/2013

[quote]What dude would identify with a feline male superhero? Not gonna happen.

They identify with Catwoman. You obviously don't know comic conners. They love fierce women, and choose to play them in video games.

by Anonymousreply 5105/21/2013

Wildcat - ex-boxer and founder of the JSA.

Sabretooth. No explanation needed.

Beast (during the Morrison run) - giant blue lion who kicked ass.

Kraven the Hunter - who wore a lion pelt.

I could do this all day.

by Anonymousreply 5205/21/2013

Don't forget the Thundercats!

by Anonymousreply 5305/21/2013

Thundercats can suck it.

by Anonymousreply 5405/21/2013

I'll scratch your eyes out, R54!

by Anonymousreply 5505/21/2013

There was on Walter Kitty, secret lives of....

by Anonymousreply 5605/21/2013

I remember that show, R56! Great funk guitar in the opening titles.

by Anonymousreply 5705/21/2013

Secret weapon... can cough up hair balls at will

by Anonymousreply 5805/22/2013

There is an issue of the Secret Six that shows Catman's origin - in which he, completely naked, fights off a lion pack. Yeah, it's a drawing, but quite hot. Plus there was the CONSTANT homoerotic tension between him and Deadshot, often while both were half naked. There are many reasons to like Catman.

by Anonymousreply 5905/22/2013

I miss Secret Six. It was so brutal, like a book about villains should be.

by Anonymousreply 6005/22/2013

R40 - would you stick a q-tip soaked in vodka up their butt first to calm them down and make them a bit more amenable or would you not sedate them so they would be all legs and claws when they hit their target?

by Anonymousreply 6105/22/2013

Cool r57

by Anonymousreply 6205/22/2013

:-), r3.

by Anonymousreply 6305/22/2013

R63, finally! I thank you.

by Anonymousreply 6405/23/2013

[all posts by tedious troll removed.]

by Anonymousreply 6505/23/2013

R15 is correct.

Cats are considered femmy and faggy.

by Anonymousreply 6605/23/2013

what man would want to associate with a cat?

by Anonymousreply 6705/30/2013

I saw a comic book called Cat man but it was not made by DC or Marvel. This was decades ago and I didn't buy it.

by Anonymousreply 6805/30/2013

Since ancient Egypt, cats have been associated with the feminine.

by Anonymousreply 6905/30/2013

LOL @ [R17]

by Anonymousreply 7005/30/2013

In The Simpsons Principal Skinner was dressed as Catwoman - same outfit as Michelle Pfeiffer wore. Hard to dislodge that image now.

by Anonymousreply 7105/30/2013

I loved Catman. Further proof that there's no such thing as a bad character, only bad writers. Gail Simone took a nothing lardass and made him not just a badass (comics is full of those) but a genuinely compelling (and hot) guy.

So, of course, DC erases him. I swear, no one over there knows what the fuck they are doing.

by Anonymousreply 7205/31/2013

"Watch out! It's Cat Man... and he's getting ready to spray!"
