SNL-5/18/13

Ben Affleck hosts the season finale. The musical guest is Kanye West.

It's Bill Hader and Fred Armisen's final show as regular cast members.

If Stefon doesn't show up then I'm Queen Marie of Romania.

by Anonymousreply 9505/20/2013

Anderson Cooper hinted on AC 360 last night that he might make an appearance.

by Anonymousreply 205/18/2013

This is truly the end of an Era. I know most of you believe SNL should have been cancelled in 1977, but I think the ax is finally looming. Bill Hader, Fred Armisen, Seth Meyers and probably Jason Sudeikis are leaving. Lorne Michaels is going to be focusing on the Tonight Show now that it's coming back to NYC. My guess is that by 2016, SNL will all be online.

by Anonymousreply 405/18/2013

I hope Stefon shows up just cause that means John Mulaney is back.

by Anonymousreply 505/18/2013

They're getting Argo out of the way. Affleck has already broken up for no good reason.

by Anonymousreply 605/18/2013

It looks like Ben added some weight

by Anonymousreply 705/18/2013

How many cocktails did they need to get Ben ready for the show?

by Anonymousreply 805/18/2013

OMG! Ben has quite the stomach now. That's what happened when you direct overrated films that go on to win an Oscar for Best Picture.

by Anonymousreply 905/19/2013

Wow, a gay skit followed by a gay gag from The Hangover 2.

by Anonymousreply 1005/19/2013

Oh god, Kanye...

by Anonymousreply 1105/19/2013

Can't make out one thing Kanye is "singing".

by Anonymousreply 1305/19/2013

That's supposed Kanye's "revolutionary" music? Have seen and heard many times before, many years ago -- Nitzer Ebb, NIN, many industrial bands. Nothing new but was much better before.

by Anonymousreply 1605/19/2013

Maybe all the gay content so far is to butter us up for when Stefon and Seth run off together?

by Anonymousreply 1705/19/2013

R2 I'm not sure if that's what he meant.

by Anonymousreply 1805/19/2013

Stefon!

by Anonymousreply 1905/19/2013

OMG. Perfect sendoff for Stefon.

by Anonymousreply 2005/19/2013

That Stefon / Seth segment had me laughing and smiling.

by Anonymousreply 2105/19/2013

Stefon gets his man!

What a touching sendoff. So emotional.

by Anonymousreply 2205/19/2013

Seth + Stefon

4evr!

by Anonymousreply 2305/19/2013

Okay, the Stefon skit was inspired, demented fun. Alf! Smurfs!

Does Anderson Cooper really think he's building up his appeal or credibility by appearances like this?

I enjoyed it, anyway.

by Anonymousreply 2405/19/2013

Girth Brooks? They HAVE to know that there's a real porn star with that name.

by Anonymousreply 2505/19/2013

Herpes Handbags. Heh.

by Anonymousreply 2605/19/2013

Herpes Handbags was funny.

by Anonymousreply 2705/19/2013

What difference does it make R24 if you liked it anyhow? Why even ask, it's all harmless fun.

by Anonymousreply 2805/19/2013

I always mute the musical bits.

MADtv did a skit once about aspiring porn actors applying for official porn names. There was a Girth Brooks in that one too.

by Anonymousreply 3305/19/2013

Aw, I didn't know Taran was leaving too.

by Anonymousreply 3505/19/2013

Armison is a big show off having all his famous friends show up for his farewell song.

by Anonymousreply 3605/19/2013

I don't think that weird fat lady has been in a single sketch tonight.

by Anonymousreply 3705/19/2013

SNL’s Stefon Gets Incredibly Epic Send-Off With Anderson Cooper, Seth Meyers, And Wedding Bells

by Anonymousreply 3805/19/2013

That fat lady is unfunny.

by Anonymousreply 3905/19/2013

Who said Taran is leaving, r35?

by Anonymousreply 4005/19/2013

I just assumed, since the other guys in the band were Fred, Bill, and Jason.

by Anonymousreply 4105/19/2013

Stefon was just posting on Twitter (don't know who actually writes the tweets). Lot of Stefon and Seth hash tags are trending.

by Anonymousreply 4205/19/2013

Jason is leaving, I thought he was supposed to been leaving last season with Kristen Wiig.

by Anonymousreply 4305/19/2013

U donta insulta my Kanye - BASTA!!!

by Anonymousreply 4405/19/2013

Taran is not leaving. He was in that band because it's a recurring sketch -- well this is only the second time they've done it, but he was part of the first one as well.

Sudekis will be back for a bit next fall. He's not gone yet. Seth Meyes will be back until December.

Hader and Armisen are dunzo.

by Anonymousreply 4505/19/2013

Definitely one of the better SNLs tonight. Ben really got fat though!

by Anonymousreply 4605/19/2013

Fatter: Ben Affleck or Matt Damon?

by Anonymousreply 4705/19/2013

Definitely Ben, r47! Matt hasn't gone that far as of yet plus he always has that bodacious bo-donka-donk to make up for any weight gain issues.

by Anonymousreply 4805/19/2013

Fatt Damon.

by Anonymousreply 4905/19/2013

Fat Damon 2

by Anonymousreply 5005/19/2013

Kanye's new stuff is terrific!!

by Anonymousreply 5105/19/2013

Those Fat Damon pictures are OLD!

He put on weight for a movie role many years ago. He played some old FBI guy and he put on quite a bit of weight for the role.

He is not that chunky at all.

by Anonymousreply 5205/19/2013

What does Damon's sculptor brother look like?

by Anonymousreply 5305/19/2013

The real question r47 is: what fatty would you fuck? Matt or Ben?

I'll go with Matt. Even fat he's hotter.

by Anonymousreply 5405/19/2013

The best part was that Ben kissed Jen in the opening monologue the same way his gay conversion camp counselor character kissed his lesbian wife.

by Anonymousreply 5505/19/2013

Ha ha r55 I was thinking the same thing.

by Anonymousreply 5605/19/2013

I don't consider anyone who can't play an instrument a musician.

by Anonymousreply 5805/19/2013

R58, you are entitled to your own opinion. I don't enjoy most of today's music, such as Justin Bieber and most of the other manufactured one note musicians, but having worked in the music business, I am always open to new formats and types of music.

Gil Scott-Heron was actually a jazz and blues singer who wrote real songs. Gil did actually start with spoken word, collaborating with The Last Poets, a 1970s New York based group of spoken word artists which included former NBC news New York reporter Felipe Luciano! Spoken word is essentially what Rap/Hip-Hop is.

Re Gil Scott-Heron: "His recording work received much critical acclaim, especially one of his best-known compositions "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised". His poetic style has influenced every generation of hip hop."

"Serious spokesmen like Gil Scott-Heron, Gary Byrd, and the Last Poets paved the way for the many socially committed black emcees a decade later."

Rap/Hip-Hop is now an accepted form of pop music, some rappers are better than others, despite the hype, Kanye is not one of them.

by Anonymousreply 5905/19/2013

Nobody gives a shit about Gil Scott-Heron. Get a fucking blog.

by Anonymousreply 6005/19/2013

R60 eats shit.

by Anonymousreply 6105/19/2013

I eat old people's excrement. And I pick my nose.

by Anonymousreply 6205/19/2013

I think the Stefan skit is totally homophobic and unfunny...no shock there...it is that horrid show.

by Anonymousreply 6305/19/2013

Yet another return appearance by Amy Poehler. Remember when SNL alums went away and stayed away?

by Anonymousreply 6505/19/2013

Someone would have to explain how what Kanye does could be considered music. I can't listen to it.

by Anonymousreply 6605/19/2013

Anyone want to guess how long into the next season it will be until either Armisen or Hader guest host?

I say by Halloween.

by Anonymousreply 6705/19/2013

Yeah, R65, it's turned into fucking Glee. They can't stay away.

by Anonymousreply 6805/19/2013

What is Bill Hader going to do? He doesn't have the looks to build a show around, I guess he can get supporting roles.

by Anonymousreply 6905/19/2013

The Coming Cast Crisis at ‘Saturday Night Live’

by Anonymousreply 7005/19/2013

[quote]With the “Update” anchor chair emptying next year, it’s tempting to hope Michaels will turn to one of his up-and-comers for what would be an instant status booster. That said, the good money is that chair will go to John Mulaney, an “SNL” writer who had a pilot in contention at NBC this year. He didn’t get a series order, which could be the best thing to happen to “SNL.”

That would be the only reason to watch.

by Anonymousreply 7105/19/2013

Without Bill Hader, there will be no reason to watch SNL.

by Anonymousreply 7205/19/2013

Could there ever really be a "cast crisis" at Saturday Night Live? I mean the show may be old and tired and a complete shell of its former self, but it's still Saturday Night freakin' Live and I would think there's a whole world of undiscovered, wanna-be comic actors out there who would gladly sell their mothers for a shot to be on it (even now in an age where one can make oneself a star overnight on YouTube).

by Anonymousreply 7305/19/2013

Behind the scenes

by Anonymousreply 7405/19/2013

Posters on this thread must be very old. SNL has never been funny in the last 20 or so years. I keep reading that SNL used to be funny. How far back does one have to go to find this show funny? 40 years?

by Anonymousreply 7505/19/2013

R75 is 50+

by Anonymousreply 7605/19/2013

Watching Ben Affleck is like a night at a community theater.

by Anonymousreply 7705/19/2013

How long is shrewy Jennifer Garner going to make poor Ben suffer for fucking Blake Lively? I'm gay and I would fuck Blake Lively. Give the guy a pass.

by Anonymousreply 7805/19/2013

How did Ben Affleck ever have an acting career? He can't deliver a line to save his life.

by Anonymousreply 7905/19/2013

Years ago, Ben was hysterical in an SNL skit where he played a hairy Mid- Eastern car salesman, he should have revived that character.

by Anonymousreply 8005/20/2013

When Ben first introduced Kayne it looked like he had been crying...

by Anonymousreply 8105/20/2013

What the heck are you talking about R69. Bill Hader's certainly better looking than a lot of current male comedy film leads.

by Anonymousreply 8205/20/2013

I loved how no one was coming up to Kanye at the show's close.

by Anonymousreply 8305/20/2013

Both of Kanye's songs had my bf and I rolling our eyes and changing the channel. The visual assault going on behind him just made it worse.

This episode SUCKED. Gay Wedding Xanax and the Stefon film were good, but the rest was so bad that the only good thing to say was that it was still a better episode than Kristen Wiig the week before.

by Anonymousreply 8405/20/2013

I loved who Kanye seemed like the unpopular wallflower with social anxiety disorder during the closing credits.

by Anonymousreply 8505/20/2013

Okay, I'll say it. Amy Poehler's hair looked awful. She reminded me a little hillbilly girl in need of a good scrubbing.

by Anonymousreply 8605/20/2013

R86: Amy's hair ALWAYS looks dreadful. It looks as if it is very thin. And it doesn't help that she looks as if she bleaches it over a kitchen sink.

You're not Jean Harlow, hunty.

by Anonymousreply 8705/20/2013

Her hair looks great on Parks & Rec, maybe she wears a wig on the show?

by Anonymousreply 8805/20/2013

What did they have Kanye on for if they hate him so much?

by Anonymousreply 8905/20/2013

[quote]Someone would have to explain how what Kanye does could be considered music. I can't listen to it.

The people who make and enjoy it don't really give a shit whether or not it fits your definition of music.

I don't enjoy it myself, but popular music evolves and what you are saying about hip hop previous generations said about jazz and rock and disco.

by Anonymousreply 9005/20/2013

I am not a shrew!!

by Anonymousreply 9105/20/2013

R81, yeah, I thought that, too, I could also hear it in his voice.

by Anonymousreply 9205/20/2013

The SNL of today will always be viewed in relation to how it was "before" - that's part of it's appeal. It will always be evolving and someone will always chirp in about how it's not the same anymore. Sure, by it's nature you get some down years and some up years, but it's always changing like no other show does.

People who moan that it hasn't been funny in decades or that only the first five years were worth anything (I personally can't stand the initial seasons) miss the point.

While I'll miss Arminsen and Hader, I hope this gives more room for Taran and Kate McKinnon to get more attention. And give Aidy Bryant something to do already!

One complaint I do have though - there are far too many pre-filmed segments these days. It defeats the purpose to having a live show, doesn't it?

by Anonymousreply 9305/20/2013

Who besides Ben Affleck wanted to see Jennifer Garner on the show? I don't know why she was there, but it irritated me when he brought her out. She's a big zero.

by Anonymousreply 9405/20/2013

I was hoping Matt Damon (and his butt) was going to make an appearance.
