OMG! Elizabeth McGovern didn't attend the Oscars in 1981?

Why? (she said she was working but why....really?)

by Anonymousreply 2105/18/2013

Diarrhea

by Anonymousreply 105/17/2013

That would be a damn good reason, r1.

by Anonymousreply 205/18/2013

Well, maybe because the world was saner then? Attending an award show was not mandatory. There was no Red Carpet fascist/fetishist code of conduct. People, both the “stars” and the public, were far less conditioned, the was your amazement, OP, seems to suggest you are.

oh my

R3 Yep, it was very common for nominees not to attend back in the olden days. If they one they usually had a taped acceptance speech to play for the "telecast".

by Anonymousreply 505/18/2013

Did she have any issues with the film? I know Debra Winger didn't attend for Officer and a gentleman because she hated it. (and of course the whole bat shit crazy thing)

I bet Elizabeth thought there would be more nominations. She did Ordinary People which one a bunch and then Ragtime the next year. Probably seemed like awards were easy to come by.

She was a shit actress that the press went gaga over for her looks - I know sounds weird since she is just average looking (then & now) and is not (then or now) a great actress.

Leave it to R6 to take an absolutely satirical subject seriously. This is PURE DISTILLED DL! Carry on Queens!

by Anonymousreply 805/18/2013

Some rented entourages of Native Americans just in case they won.

by Anonymousreply 905/18/2013

Who?

by Anonymousreply 1005/18/2013

r8-----I am the op. I asked it hysterically but also wanted to know.

and don't say "queens" it makes you sound over eighty and self-loathing.

by Anonymousreply 1105/18/2013

She couldn't afford the cab fare.

by Anonymousreply 1205/18/2013

She was great in Ordinary People.

by Anonymousreply 1305/18/2013

Why is someone asking about some woman who didn't attend an awards ceremony 32 years ago?

If the answer is known, what impact will the information have in your life?

Seriously. I'm not being sarcastic. I'm just curious what would compel someone to seek out information like this.

by Anonymousreply 1405/18/2013

R14, he was just being funny and I thought it was funny. It's like the guy last month who posted about why some actress didn't deserve the 1942 best actress Oscar. As stupid as the thread was, it hit the 600 mark in a matter of days. Try doing that with a post about Syria, the Russian/Orthodox Christian mafia or Serbia and see how many ????'s you get.

Why do you need to know? What impact would it have on your life r14?

by Anonymousreply 1605/18/2013

You people leave OP alone! I'm pretty sure he's the Daphne Zuniga troll.

by Anonymousreply 1705/18/2013

Ooooooo Wobewt!

by Anonymousreply 1805/18/2013

R11, I AM over 80 and self-loathing. And get the fuck off my lawn before I throw my colostomy bag at you.

by Anonymousreply 1905/18/2013

Hey R19, marry me and I'll hire you a hot young nurse with a bulge to die for.

by Anonymousreply 2005/18/2013

It's a black mark on the Academy's history that she wasn't even nominated for "She's Having a Baby."
