Michael Musto fired from The Village Voice.

They are DEAD to me. Punch & delete!

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 7105/20/2013

Ditto. I am confident, however, that he'll be snapped up in a New York minute, either by the Post, the Daily News, or one of the online gossip blogs (possibly even Gawker! - God knows they need a gay on staff who can actually *write* without needless navel-gazing).

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 105/17/2013

And Miss David Ehrenstein, no less, weighs in at Gawker with a comment....

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 205/17/2013

Excuuuuse me, R1!

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 305/17/2013

This is awful! I noticed they had gotten rid of Savage Love and the Horoscopes. Without Musto there's nothing else worth reading!

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 405/17/2013

Rich Juzwiak is so dreadful.

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 505/17/2013

God, r6, just go away.

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 705/17/2013

Dear Miserable Cunt at R6: Are you a full-time asshole or just a part-timer?

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 805/17/2013

I'm sure someone else will snatch Monsieur Musto up.

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 905/17/2013

Juzwiak, five years ago, was entertaining. Turns out that was his peak. He needs to get a new job because he is offensively bad at his job these days.

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 1005/17/2013

Michael Feingold, the paper's theater critic was dumped too. Doesn't he post here once in awhile?

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 1105/17/2013

Feingold was a professor of mine at NYU a million years ago. Perhaps the most pompous cunt I've ever had the misfortune to meet.

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 1205/17/2013

Musto says, "So many people have come out to offer their love (and opportunities). I'll update you on all my new beginnings. My brand will be feistier than ever."

I hope he's right.

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 1305/17/2013

Why does the VV bother to exist?

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 1405/17/2013

hell, why does the Village still exist?

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 1505/17/2013

LOL ...R15...!

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 1605/17/2013

He had his day. He'll find something else to do. Change isn't bad, bitches!

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 1705/17/2013

The VV has been irrelevant for at least a decade. Musto will be fine.

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 1805/17/2013

True. When it was 75 cents, and came out every Wednesday, it was a slice of NY heaven. One had to grab a copy hot off the presses to get a crack at those cheap apartments!

The second they started giving it away, it became irrelevant.

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 1905/17/2013

He certainly did not get his scoops from DL-

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 2005/17/2013

Why not, R20? We can make up blind items as easily as he can!

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 2105/17/2013

[all posts by ham-fisted troll a removed.]

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 2205/17/2013

What took them so long?

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 2305/17/2013

I enjoyed his columns everyday. Sad to see this. I am a big fan. And yes, he always gave props to DL.

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 2405/17/2013

"...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoops"

Because it's where he lifts ALL his material!

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 2505/17/2013

[quote]And Miss David Ehrenstein, no less, weighs in at Gawker with a comment....

"Will the last person at Gawker please turn out the lights."

OMG - that's an incredibly funny retort. Maybe they'll hire him?

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 2605/17/2013

Doubtful that they would hire him R26. They don't need someone who would spend all his time trying to "in" Lena Horne.

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 2705/17/2013

So what? You stupid Bitches need to get a life.

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 2805/17/2013

Every time I see DEs name, it brings shivers down my spine. He's the boogie-man under the DL bed.

Or that troll at the corner, who just watches...

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 2905/17/2013

OP is Michael wishing he had his $18 back.

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 3005/17/2013

LOL! "Or that troll at the corner, who just watches..."

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 3105/17/2013

Savage is no loss.

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 3205/17/2013

being "laid off" is not being "fired". He got laid off. Dumbass.

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 3305/17/2013

R28 has just come from the backroom of an adult video arcade, and from a lunch of licking loads off of the floor....

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 3405/17/2013

You'll forgive our confusion, R33. This has got to be the first time Musto has been laid anywhere.

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 3505/17/2013

"I enjoyed his columns everyday." Ummm, sweetums, he wrote a weekly column, not a daily. (p.s., I was just chosen by him as one of his "Top Commenters" and am wondering when his new independent site will start up?)

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 3605/17/2013

Mr. Feingold is a frequent contributor on the All That Chat message board.

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 3705/17/2013

R33 = ....well this one is obvious..

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 3805/17/2013

I suggest he reform The Must and do a "Night at s.n.a.fu." variety rock-cabaret show at Studio 54.

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 3905/17/2013

They got rid of Tony Ortega last year, the idiots. What's going on over there?

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 4005/17/2013

All I've got to say is that the Gawker format for comments is so fucking irritating I can't be bothered to read them.

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 4105/17/2013

David Ehrenstein loathes Michael Musto since he outed Lena Horne in a column several years ago!

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 4205/17/2013

Tony Ortega's reporting on Co$ was outstanding. The Voice has been in freefall for a while. There are weeks when the VV, the LA Weekly, the SF Weekly and their other properties all run the same generic cover story, which defeats the entire notion of a city-specific alt-weekly.

The Daily News fired Joanna Molloy, their gossip columnist, a couple of weeks ago. I wonder if the News would scoop up Musto. He'd have to go a little more Midtown in his coverage (and if the News is smart, they'd go a bit more downtown), but that would be an interesting pick.

The Observer would also be a great place for him, especially since Musto does so much online stuff during the week.

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 4305/17/2013

Methinks Ms. Musto is posting on this thread. DL hasn't been this catty in five years.

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 4405/17/2013

R44 wins the Firm Grasp of the Obvious Award!

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 4505/17/2013

VV has decided to switch to an all-underage sex slave ads format.

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 4605/17/2013

Soon it will be bye bye to the Village Voice for good. I mean papers that actually charge to buy their papers are dying all over the world. And here's the Voice, which relies solely on advertising income to fuel their coffers. What do you expect?

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 4705/17/2013

Should I buy stock in Ben & Jerry's and caftans? I foresee many a night of Ms. Musto crying into a container of Cherry Garcia.

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 4805/17/2013

Ummm, sweetums, he wrote a weekly column, not a daily.

This loony queen is out of the loop. The Daily Musto has been around for years. I haven't seen his weekly column, La Dolce Musto, in some time.

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 4905/17/2013

[quote]Methinks Ms. Musto is posting on this thread. DL hasn't been this catty in five years.

Oh, really? Preytell!

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 5005/17/2013

its not like there are a plethora of other journalist personalities at that rag to fill in the hole left by Musto's firing.

Btwn this and The New York Observer becoming right-wing when that Jared Kushner cunt took over, NYC really doesn't have one whit of edgy journalism left anymore.

What a toothless unexceptional capitalist city this is.

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 5105/17/2013

Michael Feingold is the only theater critic worth reading in New York City.

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 5205/17/2013

Pardon me, grammar trolls, that should have read: Michael Feingold is the only theater critic in New York City worth reading."

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 5305/17/2013

Wow. The VV just continues to deteriorate. They must be losing money hand over fist if the rate they are dropping good columnists is any indication.

Musto won't have any trouble finding another gossip gig, probably one that pays better.

The VV isn't the VV anymore.

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 5405/17/2013

Does that mean he belongs only to us?

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 5505/17/2013

Why did the Village People fire Michael Musto? He was my favorite Leather Guy they ever had!

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 5605/17/2013

R6, As cool as it would be, "punch and delete" isn't the password to a secret society on Park Avenue. It's a Datalounge saying.

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 5705/17/2013

[quote]Ummm, sweetums, he wrote a weekly column, not a daily.

He wrote a daily blog.

Sweetums.

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 5805/17/2013

R52 = Michael Feingold's bloated ass

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 5905/17/2013

How much money do you think the Voice was paying him? What other goodies would he have gotten? Free theatre tickets? Entry into hot clubs? Rent boys? Free weekends in P'town?

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 6105/18/2013

Though I have no idea about his pay, there's no doubt he got free tickets and free entry into clubs, as well as a lot of invites to events.

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 6205/18/2013

r54 They are not alternative anymore, so they are going to throw the stalwarts overboard to save money and not create any waves.

I think Musto is long past his sell-by date, but they aren't replacing him with anyone in the same vein he was when he started.

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 6305/18/2013

How old is he? Has his time passed? Was he able to stay up all night and party with the younger crowd?

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 6405/18/2013

I always think of the deceased Theresa Duncan, the writer from the Wit of The Staircase blog and The Golden Suicides in VF. About five years ago she surmised traditional alternative/political/formerly radical publications would be carefully co-opted by corporate media providers and depoliticized and defanged (see Coachella, Urban Outfitters). VV was bought out by a Texas media conglomerate, as was the LA Weekly and others. Political criticism, local coverage and personality-driven, ear-to-the-street journalism were sacrificed for a snotty, consumerist, faux-grooviness. Musto's a good writer and needed to get away from VV anyway.

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 6505/18/2013

[quote]Preytell!

I'm sticking with Verizon.

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 6605/18/2013

I only go to VV to read Musto. Bye bye VV.

I only go to Gawker from a link. Ditto.

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 6705/18/2013

He was the last of the old, good Village Voice

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 6805/18/2013

Their remaining food critic (they fired the main one last week) and their investigative reporter both gave up and quit this morning.

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 6905/20/2013

No reason to bother with the thing now.

by ...and he always credited Datalounge for his scoopsreply 7005/20/2013

Musto will land on his feet in a better place. Every time I see him, I'm amazed at how huge his head is framed by his ultra narrow shoulders. I imagine him to be not tall.
